Things you totally regret purging from your closet

The few things that haunt me, how about you?

#1) 1980's Guess by Georges Marciano denim moto jacket, I could weep over this one

#2) classic suede and leather pencil skirts

#3) 1990's sheer tartan plaid buttondown shirts from the GAP

#4) some gorgeous, completely on-trend-now sweaters/jumpers: some cabled, some hand knitted in fine yarns, all "my" color palette, some oversized, some cropped, all in great condition that I could be enjoying now (especially when I see the current retail prices).

#5) some designer vintage clutches I inherited

I miss my leather micro mini. But realistically I should NOT be wearing it anymore.

Nothing.

Honestly....I regret hanging ONTO some things for longer than I should have.

But purging? I regret none of those things.

The only thing I truly regret is losing the diamond from my mother's wedding ring. I can't afford to replace it now, and I miss wearing it, and feel sad about the loss.

That's it.

I don't have any that I really regret. I tend to forget about them once they're gone. I did, for the first time ever, actually go and get a sweater out of my purge pile the other day. So maybe that would have been my first! I think though, I'm just very low on sweaters and once I replace that one it will probably go. I purge ruthlessly!

Two pairs of Doc Martens shoes, a too-small cashmere sweater that would have made a great felted scarf, and my first ever book bag. But really, most of my clothes have been nothing special -- those that were, I still have!

Now if my classic motorcycle jacket would just magically fit me again I'd be a happy camper. A toasty warm happy camper -- that this is amazingly weatherproof.

Nothing comes to mind. My problem is holding onto things for too long or buying the wrong things in the first place! I never had the cool things you are regretting, however.

A black Wilson's moto jacket I purchased in the mid-80's. Classic style. I purged it on my 20,000th move coming back to WA from Idaho. That and a pair of black Frye harness boots. They both went together. This was in 2007. A year or so later I was wishing I hadn't done it and still feel that way.

I regret letting go of books, but aside from a classic levi denim jacket I have yet to really regret a purge.

I miss some things, but they didn't fit anymore.

I am not a purger. When I purge something, it is because it is no longer wearable, or because I absolutely can not stand the sight of that item anymore. So no, I can't think of much I regret.

Having said that, there were a few favourite pieces I shrank out of, that I let go with regret. Their memory still causes a little pang. But they were no longer wearable for me, so out they went. I am quite sure that I will be predisposed to buying similar items if I find them though.

Just today I realized I had purged a red silky tank that would have come in handy planning some holiday outfits. I still long for 3 blazers I purged before finding YLF. A beautiful Ralph Lauren Linen in sort of a muted watercolor print. I used to always wear it traveling and was such a great piece to layer with for spring and summer. A green tweed blazer that would have been worn to death in the last two years. And a Classiques long blush colored blazer that would have seen a lot of action, too. Boo Hoo:(

I donated a great navy blazer to Goodwill a few years ago. It was all that was left of a suit when the dry cleaners lost the pants. When I realized what a perfect layering piece it was I went looking for it hoping to buy it back but it was gone.

I recently purged a burgundy western-style silk shirt with coral piping -- it was a little roomy after my weight loss and I was a little overzealous -- and now I wish I'd kept it. Nothing else comes to mind now, so I guess I haven't done too badly.

Although every time I see one of these sized-up slouchy trouser posts you guys put up, I think that's how *all* my pants fit last year after I lost weight and I thought they looked awful hanging low on me and giving me droopy butt. So of course I got rid of them. Who knew that would become fashionable? I still think they looked awful on me, so no regrets.

I console myself by realizing that if I still had something from decades ago it either wouldn't fit or wouldn't be as fab as I remembered it. And what goes around, doesn't always come around in the same way stylistically. Usually something old just looks... well...old.

No big regrets here. Perhaps getting rid of a white buttondown that would have got some layering use.
I did get offered a handed down bulky cream sweater last winter and turned it down and now I see them trending! I didn't even try it on, though so it might not have suited me anyway!

I wrapped it up in a white sheet and placed it in the linen closet. When we moved to Europe from Africa, I edited our linen closet - and thought the sheet (WRAPPING THE WEDDING DRESS) was just a sheet.

I regretted purging a perfectly good denim jacket about five years ago. I also shouldn't have purged a cream blazer that fit like a dream. I've since replaced both of these!

I'm still kicking myself for purging a beautiful autumn-colored knit turtleneck sweater I bought at a boutique in San Francisco's Japantown. It was just classic, not too extreme with any of the details, never pilled or showed any signs of wear, and was very flattering. I just thought, "oh, it's time to get rid of this".

My DH's perfectly beat up and faded Levis denim jacket. We may still find it in a box in basement but I think it got lost along the way. Otherwise, not much. Once things are gone I don't really remember them.

Used to have 2 theory blazers I wore with everything from jeans to skirts. Sadly they didn't fit anymore and after a couple years of hoping they'd fit again they don't and out they went . I found them for a steal on clearance at Marshall's in my size and favorite wardrobe colors.

Not much I can think of at the moment....Edwin jeans (from Japan, back in the 80s). And an amazing dress also from the late 80's--it was from a Soho boutique in NYC and was SO 80's with a futuristic Japanese vibe...I am so sad that I thought this was dated and got rid of it about seven years ago, after carting it around for such a long time. My daughter might have loved it...*I* would love it again now!

At least there's not much I regret. Probably I regret more the things I didn't buy!

The cost of what I "wasted" with all my massive purges these past few years hounds me more than the actual items. I just haven't been able to accept the money I've wasted on perfectly good to wear but I just don't like them or want them anymore clothing. I'm happy I have shrunk the size of my closet though.

Nothing. I have thought about some things I might have kept, but they went to good homes and are well loved.
Angie, I feel sick about your wedding dress. Maybe you can imagine a wonderful new life it has had.
