I say YAY!
(On the silk concerns, Indian women seem to do tight silk and cotton-silk blended churidar pants a lot, and while I can't say they wear as well as plain workhorse cotton, I think the 'fragility' of silk is a bit of a myth. Silk fibre is actually very strong indeed. It really depends on the exact fabrication, which is as true of wool --- which by the way is considered 'fragile' where I live! --- or fine cotton. I don't even bother with dry-cleaning most of my silk things, though I have only a few.)
