These boots are just too similar, don't you think? ETA fulllength pics

I have two pair of knee-high boots - a pair of Miz Mooz in black, and the brown Frye Veronicas on the left. I bought the Frye Melissa's in grey at NAS (shown on the right) thinking that grey would diversify my boot collection, but the "grey" has a lot of brown tones in it, and I think that the vibe is just too similar to the Veronicas. What do you think? I will only keep a pair of Frye boots if they're a 10 (they also may be a little tall for me). Sorry for the odd angle - my photographer is out of town, and I can't find the tripod.

Perhaps I should diversify my boot collection with something in a lighter color (taupe to bookend my hair, or cognac, or something). I have a heck up a time finding boots that fit since I have wide calves and I'm short. Ideas?! Thanks.

Okay - the colors are different enough to me, but I think the new ones are a bit too tall for petite you.

Do you thing you'd ever wear them without tucked in jeans? because that's when you'd really see their height.

The Veronica's are a better height for you AND brilliant with that one little buckle, to keep them fitted between jeans and tights.

I mean the new ones are gorgeous, but . . . .

Yep, that's exactly what I'm thinking - and I want boots I can wear with skirts and skinnies. If I'm going to shell out for another pair of Frye boots, I want to be able to wear them all the time!

I agree with MNSara that the colors look different enough but the height is odd. I have a pair of boots that are a little too high on my leg and I find them hard to wear.

They do not seem different enough to me, honestly. I'd try something in a fawn color, to bookend, and see how you like the look.

I agree that the new ones are a smidge too tall, and I love love love your idea of getting a pair to bookend your hair. A nice honey colored leather would be very pretty...

I love both pairs of those boots, but I agree that it would be really cool to find a pair of lighter colored - butter-honey sort of, to bookend with your hair. That would be FAB!

Frye gray is usually not a true charcoal gray, in my experience :). I like the look of the new boots, but if you are only going to spring for one pair, and already have black and brown, I really like the idea of going for something lighter so you can go the bookending route.

I love the boots, they don't look grey from where I'm sitting but love the versatile color. I didn't think they looked too tall but I'm not an expert. Did they have other colors to choose from?

I like them both, but I actually prefer the Fryes (at least in the photos). I think the longer boot looks great on you. I guess I'm in the minority...not unusual for me, though!
^Edited to add: I prefer the Frye Melissas. I didn't make that clear in my post.

Well, I'll be! The taller boot does NOT gap at the top! Is it that nice from a side view too? If it is, then I'd keep it. . . ;:-)

I actually think the taller boot makes your leg looks slimmer in the jeans and bare legs!! It seems to hide the extra knee fabric.

Hmmm...@Sara - the Melissa does have a small gap at the top (you can see it on the very right side of the photo with the skirt if you look carefully)

Yeah, but it's a little gap. I was expecting more when the denim came off. What I can see looks pretty darn good.

What about a back gap - that shows in profile?

Sarah, it looks like you are going through the same pain as I do:-).
From my perspective the color is not different enough to justify boots in a very similar style IF you are after a single pair a boots to create a very different look with. If you just want boots in this color they are great (I am not an expert on the lenght factor though).
For me I would go for a more distinctively different pair if Iwanted to add just one pair of boots to my collection... either a different style in this color or the same style in more grey color.

FWIW, I think the boots on the right look a little sleeker and the ones on the left a little tougher. I don't think the ones on the right are too tall. I would keep them if budget is not an issue.

You know, I was thinking...I think the "too similar" question is going to be answered very differently depending on your perspective. Someone with, say, 30 pairs of boots is more likely to think these two are not too similar. After all, they probably have a variety of tall brown boots, black boots, colorful boots, etc. etc. Someone with, say, 2 pairs of boots is more likely to think these are pretty similar :).

@Sveta, yes we need joint boot therapy sessions!

@Jonesy, yes I think you hit the nail on the head. I didn't even wear boots until a year ago, and am trying to carefully build a diverse boot collection that will last for awhile. I don't think I have two pairs of Frye boots in my near future, so I'm leaning towards returning these, even though they're beautiful, and working on finding the perfect book-ending boot for fall and winter.
