These boots - should I repair or replace?

Hi there, hoping I can ask everyone's opinion - these riding boots have served me well for I'd say about 5 years, but have sprung a hole in the side, where the leather meets the sole. I've considered repairing as they are in otherwise good shape, but I'm not sure if the style is a little tired and in need of an update? E.g. a lower shaft or lace up.

Appreciate your thoughts ... please feel free to be blunt and thanks for your suggestions; much appreciated!

ETA - Sorry the photo is so dark; for some reason when I transfer photos to my computer, they darken quite a bit - must get tech support aka DH on it!

I don't see them as dated, a true classic.

Depending on your budget/needs I would be tempted to repair these ones - they look perfect for your Mum on the Go lifestyle in a cold winter.

My climate is different - I currently have one pair of knee high winter boots (mine are pretty beaten up now but this means I can wear them on horrible ways without a worry), and three pairs of ankle boots of different shapes and styles, plus a pair of sneaker boots. I have got into the habit of adding one pair each winter now to keep things current but affordable.

I ordered those Topshop boots and they ran big for Topshop and I found them a little thinner and frumpier than I expected, just FYI. I am still on the hunt for something similar. The current boots do not look dated to me!

LOVE the boots that have sprung a leak, and I absolutely agree that they are classics that do not date. However, I also love the look of combat boots. Is there any possibility you can do both? Get the original repaired (or at least get an estimate and find out what it would be) AND buy the lace-ups? Otherwise, as I said, since they are truly classics, I would choose to replace the tall, flat boots before going for a combat or a chelsea.

I think the boots with the leak should be repaired AND you should get a mid-calf boot if you can afford it. The long and short boots five two different looks. It might be nice to have the variety. Or maybe you're tired of the long boots? Five years is a pretty good stint, so I don't think you should feel guilty about wanting to let them go.

These don't look dated at all. While I like the lace-ups a lot, I think your current boots are true classics. Find out if they can be repaired....and you should get the lace-up mid calf boots if your budget allows for that too, so that no one pair gets badly worn out.

I agree with the others: talk to a cobbler, and if the repair is cheap, you might as well do it. But also shop around for a new pair, because you might enjoy something different. And I don't think the boots look dated.

The tall boots are classics and if it is possible and affordable I agree that you should get them repaired. I also agree that if your budget allows, add a shorter boot. I have an older classic tall boot and added a pair of moto boots and love them both.

Tall black riding boots are a true classic and I don't think they will ever go out of style. It's probably a good time to purchase a new pair with the sales right now if you do replace them.

If you go for a shorter style, it is possible you'll get more wear through seasons, as the tall boots can be too hot for spring/early fall, so I guess it depends on your objective. But all 3 styles you show are now considered classics!

Try and get the old boots repaired. I have seen the Steve Madden boots in person (only in brown) and loved them. Unfortunately my fussy feet can't wear them.
