Yet another variation. Zoris to me were a type of non-rubber flip flop that had a huge moment around 1978, when I was 14. The base was a woven grasscloth and the thong portion was made of padded cotton cloth.

To recap: in my New England childhood:

Flip flops were only the cheap rubber beach sandals.

Thongs were my mother's hard-as-a-rock flat leather sandals.

Zoris were the Asian-style shoe shown below. I had a pair of those in a sage and beige floral print and I ADORED them.
