This weekend my guy and I had a small-ish, mostly family, DIY wedding. I am not a big party person and was pretty nervous about the whole thing, even though compared to most weddings I've been to it was simple and small-we were planning for it to be very basic. However, family and friends really surprised me by volunteering their time or services even for things we weren't planning to do, and I felt incredibly loved.
My dad and his friend played beautiful jazz music (and plugged in the iPod when they wanted a break.) My family and my husband's family coordinated and prepped food and decor. Numerous family friends asked and volunteered to help with decor and setup/breakdown. And a small group of current & former YLF fairy godmothers who I've known for years shocked the heck out of us a few weeks ago by arranging for an AMAZING photographer, who ended up being one of the biggest rockstars of the day and helped us feel relaxed and happy.
It was so fun-way less nerve wracking than I had feared, and Mr. K and I feel extremely loved. We are so happy to have many supportive friends and family as we celebtate our commitments for union to each other.
THANK YOU so much to those of you behind the scenes who pulled this surprise together-you know who you are, and I can't tell you how grateful I am both for what you did, and to have you as friends. You made it a truly special day!
