The unexpected advantage of using a hair oil

After reading all of the positive reviews on the forum for Moroccan Oil I was coaxed by my hairdressers to try a less expensive alternative L'Oreal Professionel Mythic Oil http://lorealprofessionnel.co......mythic-oil and yes my hair is softer and quicker to dry BUT my nails are looking buffed with very white tips and feel much stronger than a month ago.

Are you using a hair oil? Have you noticed this effect? Which brand are you using?

It is Teah's birthday tomorrow so I may not get back to thread for a while, please excuse my rudeness.

That's a great added effect! Nails and hair are both affected by nutrition, so this makes sense. I haven't tried a hair oil in a looooong time, but my mom used coconut oil on us monthly when we were kids and I remember loving how my hair felt afterwards. Maybe I should give it another go!

I massage coconut oil into my scalp at least once a month, let it sit for an hour - or longer - and then wash it off with shampoo in a hot shower. It does wonders for my hair. When I get busy and neglect to do this, my hair sure feels different. What I am describing, BTW, is a common practice in South Indian households, at least when I was growing up. It's greying and growing out of a pixie now, but my hair still has a texture that my husband calls "luscious". I think coconut oil gets the credit. If anyone wants to know, the brand I use is:

RunnerChick, I love Vatika! Great coconut smell. When I was in high school, I used to put it on my hair once a week, leave it overnight, then shampoo in the morning. It did make a difference.

That makes sense that the same oil would be good for your hair as for your nails. I have tried Moroccan (love the smell) and Kerastase elixir, but don't find either of them to be as good as the Kerastase oleo relax serum. I swear I would spend my last pennies on that line of hair products, but I think different things work for different people.

intesting read! is this oil for a certain type of hair? My hair is pretty oily to begin with, but I still have some dandruff?

I love love love Morrocan oil, I've just finished my bottle which lasted me 18 months. I'm trying to use up all the other hair products I have but will definately be re purchasing it. I've not noticed any difference in the condition of my nails x

DJ, I used to leave it on overnight, but I found that, in spire of my best efforts, the oil would rub off on my pillows; if I did not wash them right away, it would leave a lingering smell of rapidly staling coconut oil, which was nothing like the fresh Vatika adored. AG, like you, I find the smell overpowering in closed spaces or even open ones. I now put it on in the morning (early) and shower in the late afternoon, which still gives me enough "soak: time.

Moroccan oil sounds different and intriguing, though. It's interesting hearing about other people's experiences with it.

Oh, that's very timely, Julie, as I have just ordered some hair products from HQ Hair and will be getting a sample sized tube of Mythic Oil - looking forward to trying it now.

Jayne my hair is coloured but naturally quite oily, I find the oil that I am using penetrates the hair rather than lying on the surface. I do have to wash my hair every other day when using the oil.

Louise, wow 18 months from one bottle at that rate the price is a bargain.

Scarlet, your hair really does look glorious, have you noticed a change in thickness during pregnancy? Apparently you shed less hair when expecting.

I am very intrigued by the cocunut oil, thank you fot the recommendation.

RoseandJoan, I have heard that too and I do have the impression that I have _even_ more hair than usual. I like it actually. But lately I have been noticing more falling out than in the last few months. I usually experience some shedding when the seasons change, so maybe given our complete lack of summer this year my head has decided fall is coming early.
