The Tahari Trench

Hmmm I don't think I'm going to keep it. It's nice enough, but not a 10, IMO. And I'm not sure how practical white is for me. Here are a bunch of photos of the jacket. I'm taking my face out of the photos because I am sick and look horrible.

I think you are right about the trench, it is nice but not amazing, I'd give it an 8.5.

Thanks Tanya. I have teh same problem with coats as I do with dresses. I need a large to fit over my bust, but then it's big everywher else. I fastened the belt, on the smallest hole, and it was still quite roomy. and the sleeves are really long. There's a zipper feature on the sleeve that would make shortening them very complicated.

If someone is looking for a white trench though--it really is a beautifully made jacket at a great price. The original tag was almost $600, and I paid just over $200 for it.

I like it Nicole and you pull of a white trench very well! But I understand that you'd only want one that scores a perfect ten, and coats are difficult indeed. I love the sleeve detail by the way.

Maybe you' ve already mentioned this on the forum, I have missed a few threads over the last few weeks, but did you end up trying the blue trench from Liz Claiborne?

I hope you'll feel better soon. I'm recovering from a nasty cold too, and it takes longer than I like;-)

Inge, I looked for that LC trench last weekend in Macy's but I didn't see it. Now that i'm going to return this cream one, I'll see about ordering the blue one. I think the blue is more color anyway...

I think coats are one of those things that you can't compromise on. I agree that it's nice, but not spectacular. I think it does show that you should look for a belted version though, because unbelted it's just going to tent out over your chest. The belt will bring it back in. You can always add holes if you need to.

I agree with the ladies about looking for a belted style. I really like the blue trench that Inge posted the linked to, I think you should order that one and see how it fits. The Tahari one is okay belted, but it sort of just hangs in a column when it's not. Does that make sense? I think you need one that is a bit more tailored, or cinched in the waist a bit.

I have one major reservation about the blue dress that Inge found. It has a flap that is supposed to sit under the bust...but I know that under my bust and under most other people's busts is a big difference. I'd be willing to try it on in person, but I'm hesitant to spend the $ on shipping because I'm so doubtful. See what I mean...

I agree with the others - you can do better that the white trench. I think the placement of the belt is also a bit off - it would look better a bit higher. I know how hard it is - I also have a large bust and a short waist. I think the Tahari one might work better only because that flap would sort of act like a belt and help define your waist.

Hmmm, Nicole. I don't know about the blue LC one. Unfortunately, the only way to tell is to try it on. Have you found ANYTHING else that might work? I agree with the others...the Tahari coat is the one you're looking for. I'll keep my eyes peeled for something else that might work.

Nicole - I actually like the white trench belted but can understand not wanting to keep it if you don't feel dazzled. I'm sorry to hear you're so sick - sending virtual hugs your way.

This is not a bad style at all. I think what's most off about the trench is the fabric. I suspect you’re after something that drapes and glides over your body better. Something sturdier. This trench looks too raincoat-y. The vertical seaming is GREAT. The sleeves are far too long and the you look good in revere collars. Does that make sense?

BTW, you look good in belted styles. I believe you did not think so.

I agree with the overall shape of the jacket not being that bad. I think it's just a poor fit. And you're right, I'm not digging the fabric. Though it's a beautiful fabric, just not what i'm looking for.

My issue with belts is more about clothes than coats. But I do have to be careful about placement of belts. I also think a belt would be more of a hinderance for me. I'm afraid I'd never bother to use it. The belt makes it a little too fussy.
