My new small-pattern-in-black-and-white pants are waiting for me to jump in them... after I thought I'd never go for a patterned pair.

I posted a WIW and it's with pastel pink no less.

http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....st-1192554

I'm breaking a 7 year streak of wearing black pants (and mostly black skirts) by wearing navy ones today. I think blue is going to be my new black for awhile!

Break-out people!

Hehe. I'm not doing anything daring. Hehe.

I'm wearing pants regularly; I just bought some outrageous (and awesome) shoes; I've been having fun with some different color combinations; I've taken "leopard is a neutral" to heart.

After adamently batting for Team Black and Team Jewel Tones, and crying NoNoNo! to pointy toes and cropped pants, I'm blushing the same shade of soft pink as the new top in my closet. Which, by the way, I'm planning to wear with my new ink blue(!) crops and pointy-toed flats.

I wonder if scientists are worried about all these chunks of sky falling around them?

Well......all of these strange happenings I have just ordered a very funky 'gold' puffer style jacket for winter.
Very, very, very outside of my norm...but what can I say, I love it

My 5' 11" self is feeling fab in my new booties and pumps with 2" heels. The last time I wore heels was almost 20 years ago. I didn't think I'd ever wear them again; I thought I was tall enough without them. But the many beautiful examples on YLF inspired me to try. (6'4" DH very much approves!)

I'm nudging aside polish and lusting after RATE looks. Preferably RATE with a little polish thrown in for contrast.

I bought some pants at Talbots that were more like stovepipe legs than wide trousers or bootcuts. And I like them. I also bought three pairs of shoes this past season that were not clogs but had actual heels (only 2 inches but still, for me, that is progress.) OMG.

I'm happily wearing silver loafers. They're the first pair of metallic shoes/booties that I haven't returned. And the silver helps the loafers feel more fun and less preppy to me. So bring on more ways for the sky to fall down, Angie!

I'm beginning to think I should give a few chosen pastels a bit more space in my outfits...

I wore my tri-color JC oxfords despite DH's hatred of them - and enjoyed myself thoroughly.

I tried on a pair of BF jeans this week after dismissing them for SO LONG. Not winners, but headed to Nordies after work and the Kut Catherine's are on my list to try on, at least I can give them a chance...never thought I'd even say THAT!

I bought white jeans - to replace the first pair of white bottoms I bought after joining YLF. I never thought I could pull them off but alas, now I can't live without them.

I am LOVING my non-black footwear. Oh, metallic flats and snakeskin sneakers, where have you been my whole life?

Most of all, I feel like I am slowly easing into MY OWN style and feeling comfortable in my own skin (and clothes) and THAT feels FAB.

Thank you, Angie and YLF, for helping me poke, prod and nudge myself into places I wouldn't have gone on my own and helping me to slowly find my authentic style in the process. Not there yet, but I feel I'm certainly on the right track. Happy days.

I just bouight 2 pastel sweaters for spring / summer - blue and pink - and pastels was something I was sure I cannot wear. The strangest thing is that they are actually looking good on me

Wow. 2014 is THE year for sartorial change.

Gaylene, you might be the sky is falling down winner here. You have given me the impression that you are very set in your style ways - remember that I can only go by what I read here because you don't post pics so do correct me if I'm wrong - and the changes you've describe are monumental. Fabulous. No?

I am applauding you, abc. Hope to see you sport oufits soon.

Windchime, you have never been more statuesque.

Go Team Pastels - Tex, Ornella and Sveta.

April, I might need to lie down.

Una and Mary, good job taking down the sky. I am with you.

If you don't buy those specs, Una - you will never live it down. With me, that is.

A little piece of sky is falling in Little Rock too...

* I think I am keeping the WHITE LOAFERS I recently ordered
* I almost ordered a pair of FLORAL pumps...but I got these instead:

http://www.dsw.com/shoe/nine+w.....dId=299310

* I bought a PASTEL yellow sweater

It's fun to mix things up a bit!

I am with you Diane G. I also stated last year I would not be wearing boyfriends but I purchased them. Plan on showing them tomorrow.

Well, Angie, under your tutelage, even stubborn old ladies can be coaxed--or I say coxed (?)-- to finally climb out of the rut and embrace something new.

Seriously, though, I think it's your intelligent way of explaining and interpreting fashion, Angie, that makes a huge difference in my being able to figure out how an older woman can wear a trend without feeling juvenile, or looking ridiculous. I'll blame part of my slowness on the fact that the fashion industry doesn't make it easy to see how a BF jean can work for someone who gets Old Age Security cheques in the mail.

ETA: And just to show that it's not impossible for me to change, here's a picture of me last summer sporting my clamdiggers and neon green top.

Yes,
The sky is indeed falling! I just returned from Urban Outfitters where I bought drape-y black pants with ankle zips and cut out boots (Seychelles style Unlock the Door). Best of all, big sale! Both were $19.99---boots were last pair!

Thank you Angie and everyone for inspiring me and showing me that taking style risks is fun! xoxoxoxoxo

The pants (called harem pants on the web site) feel so nice but I think the ankle zips are a little too tight on my lower legs. They may go back. The boots are comfy.

"coxed", Gaylene you cracked me up:-))

This thread is making me smile uncontrollably. Absolutely brilliant how so many of us are trying new things and stepping out of our comfort zones.

And you are absolutely right, Angie. I will always love my extra cool colours, and the citron sweater was a real gamble, but I love it so much on me. So much that it's currently one of my favourite sweaters. Also: I am now considering trying a camel sweater too - a colour I've always thought was very unflattering on me - but I so love how elegant and chic it looks with whites and light blues. I think I can make it work with my Burberry scarf or with the addition of one of my jackets.

Yes to trying ankle strap pumps too. I often wear things that veer away a little from traditionally flattering, e.g. baggy and slouchy trousers, volume on volume etc., but up until now was a little scared to try ankle strap pumps because of my less than dainty ankles (I've always loved the look of ankle straps on others!). But life's too short to obsess about that, so I am going to try to make them work, there. Now it's "just" a matter of finding the right pair. I say "just" because for me it's not only about the right ankle strap and where it hits me, but also about the need for a very comfy low-heeled shoe…

Ooh and I just bought a pair of jeans in a very light wash, something I last wore when I was about 18 I think.

Here's to tons more fashion fun this season!

I bought a pair of almost-white jeans:
https://www.madewell.com/brows.....4441768282

but they haven't arrived yet and I'm entirely undecided about them.

If I do keep them I may also need a lighter shoe option.

GAYLENE. You posted a picture. WOW. The sky is gone, ladies. GONE. Yup. You have Winter colouring - no wonder you love black. It loves you back - just like my client Karen. And look at you sport sour colours and clams. You gorgeous creature. You made my month. Thanks for the kind words too.

Gaylene! You're gorgeous! And I like your colors and want to see more!

Another thing, Gaylene - I just know you'll look gorgeous in pale blue and pink. And let us not forget your slouchy khakis that got the thumbs up from hubs. You might well be coxed. xo

Greyscale bought white jeans???? WOW. You are runner-up after Gaylene.

La Celeste, your stuff looks fab. Hope we see you sport it.

Susie and Deb, I'm excited to see your purchases.

Inge, go Team Citron, Team Faded Jeans, and Team Ankle Strap. You will and are rocking it all.

(Oh, and I just bought two pairs of faded flared jeans. Very out of character for my very '80s self).

I bought a tube skirt. Not one, but two! And I wear belts that show. Never, never, never ever, did I think these things would happen.

Gaylene OMG you are more fab than I imagined you to be. Xoxoxo

Angie, the fact that you are liking Spring fashion more than Autumn fashion really had me looking up in the sky. After reading everyone's list here, is there any sky left? Well, yesterday, I decided to buy some toe-baring cage heels (sturdy lower heel and comfortable, thank you, Suz, for the link) after swearing I would only wear close-toed shoes or sandals. Who knew?! It's fun to push through our safe zone every now and then.

Thanks, for this amusing and fun post, Angie.

I am looking out of the window now and all I can see above is an expanse of white. No blue in sight. The sky IS gone.
It is all your fault, ladies...:-)

I bought WHITE jeans that are definite keepers. I will have to psych my clumsy self up to actually wear them, but I'll do it. I also have an ice-cream PINK oversized sweater , a blue FLORAL silk blouse, and CHUNKY black Birks-inspired sandals on the way to me too, all via Zara. Caps are for the elements that are things I normally avoid like the plague. No telling if any of those will be keepers or not, but at least I'm trying!
