The shoelace dilemma

How can you keep your shoelaces (on something like an oxford or short boot) from getting caught up in you pant leg and weirdly scrunching up your hem?

I guess I just never wore many "tie" shoes before, but every time I wear my cool and jazzy new menswear oxfords the hem of my jeans or trousers gets caught up in the shoelaces and bunches up the pant leg unattractively in the front. I'm always having to tug and pull them down over the shoe laces, which gets annoying.

Any suggestions on the art of tying shoes?

Are they (the pants) long enough? I've never had this happen with trouser-cut pants that are supposed to be full-length. I guess on skinnies I can imagine them getting scrunched up at the ankle, but they're going to do that anyway no matter what shoes you're wearing...

They are not skinnies, but not trouser leg either. Just regular straight leg I guess.
And I've had this issue with 2 pair of oxford type shoes and several pants, so it's not just a one-time thing. The shoelaces just always seem to tangle in the pant hem.

I tuck my shoelaces in on pretty much everything other than my gym shoes:) Oxfords usually have those thin waxed laces that are so easy to tie and hide too - right?

I tuck shoe laces into my shoes at the sides and they stay most of the time. Another advantage is that they don't become untied and have to be retried all the time. However, I do not wear my shoes pulled tight on top.

Wow, i learn something new every day here at YLF For those of you that tuck your laces, is it comfortable? I've never done it and it seems like it'd make the sides too tight.

There are sweet spots where it is comfortable to tuck. It can take a couple of attempts. I usually wind the laces around my finger and tuck them down the side or under the tongue. You want them to be in a spot that is tight enough to hold them in place but where they don't rub or poke.

I've never tucked my shoelaces in either, so I'm glad I posted the question and I'll try doing that.

I've seen you can also get dress elastic shoelaces, so maybe that could help as well. I've also seen some things that "lock" the shoelace in place instead of tying it, but I don't know if any of these things actually work, or would work on a dress shoe as they mostly seem to be for sneakers.
