The saddest week. ETA: lockdown in Boston.

By now everyone knows what happened here in Boston on Monday. Now tonight there's been a shooting on the MIT campus, with the shooter at large. I don't go to school at MIT, but many of my friends do, and some of them are on campus right now under lockdown. A police officer was shot and died at the hospital...

My roommate's SO is one of the people stuck at MIT right now.

And of course, there was the Texas fertilizer factory explosion...

What a sad week.

The situation is so, so much worse. There's a showdown with grenades and guns in a neighboring town, reports of shootings all over the area, etc.

Oh my god. I was just on Boston.com and didn't see it. I'm afraid to come back...

I know. =( This week just needs to be OVER.

I should be sleeping but instead am once again glued to Boston.com's live news feed. Sigh.

ETA: They are reporting that it's a marathon bombing suspect. But who knows if that is a real report or not.

Diana, it makes sense. It's impossible to sleep. Between MIT and Watertown these are areas where so many of my friends live, and so close to me. This is just a scary, scary day.

Plus, even though I am a couple of miles from either MIT or Watertown, I have been hearing sirens going by all night.

well, it looks like they ARE the same people from Monday's bombing.

Unbelievable, I am shocked and saddened by all the bad news this week. Those poor people. Crazyone I hope and pray your roommate's SO is ok. It seems that things do come in three's after all with all this in one week.

I am up too. I am shell shocked. I am heartbroken over the officer from MIT and now the MBTA officer in critical condition.

People must be so scared. They are now bringing in a bus to evacuate residents. This is crazy. I hope they get him before he hurts more people. This sounds horrible, but God, I hope he just puts an end to it before he kills more people.

C1 and Diana, you need to be so careful too...you guys are so close to that area. You are so close to Allston and that is part of the perimeter. Please don't go out.

I am staying home today, don't worry. They've shut down everything here including all the transportation so I have no way to get anywhere even if I had wanted to.

C1, I hope your roommate's SO has gotten home by now.

Feeling pretty sad about the Boston craziness - it was my home for five years and many of my friends still live in the area. I'm glad you are staying safe - Diana, C1, Isabel and Suz and Una's families. *hugs and safe thoughts to you all*

Also feel sad for the MIT campus police officer - the MIT CP's are good people and we wouldn't be able to have a pranking/hacking culture without their tacit acceptance.

I can't believe the whole scene at the Arsenal mall... my sister and I used to shop there ALL time time in high school. It was where arms used to be stored, ironically. Keep safe, friends!

My neighbor's sister's been on lockdown, like everyone elese. There's been shooting 12 blocks from her.

Almost Rachy. They have found him. He is apparently in a boat in someone's backyard. Hopefully, it will be the end once he is apprehended. Let's just hope it isn't a wider group of people.

Una, I used to shop there alot too right after college. It was one of the few malls in the area. I also did a student rotation in the building kitty coroner to where the MIT officer was killed. All these familiar places that now hold such sad memories.
