tee-hee, I am also fascinated by the fascinators!

I get that hats are part of the tradition, but many are just ridiculous looking. Princess Beatrice looked like she was in an unfortunate accident with a reindeer. I liked the idea of what Victoria Beckham was wearing, but wish it had not been all black. Her husband looks good no matter what.

I thought Kate looked wonderful. I loved the hair and the veil (which wasn't covering her for too long). I thought that wearing her hair up would have aged her more and looked stiffer. I was happy she wore it down. I agree about the flowers--they looked spare and paltry, and you could even see the plastic handle. That surprised me.

I love, love, LOVED Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice and especially their fascinators. My opinion is that if you're going to wear a fascinator, you may as well make it...well...fascinating! They certainly did, as did many of the guests. Adored it!

I thought Pippa looked absolutely fantastic as well. Not many people could pull off that style of dress, but she did, and looked amazing.

Oh, and I thought Victoria Beckham looked incredible. I thought her dress was a beautiful maternity dress, and I loved her hat/fascinator. I also loved the 5+ inch heels she was wearing while several months pregnant!

How sweet is this little detail, apparently all the little bridesmaids have their names and the date of the wedding embroidered into the lining of their dresses.

I liked Victoria Bechham's dress too, perhaps she should have considered a slightly more festive colour and a few more smiles, but I thought that the cut was very flattering. I think that her hat actually complimented her face shape quite well, the placement is something we aren't used to.

One of my favourite outfits was worn by Joss Stone - such a pretty colour!

Fi I too wish VB would smile more she looks so beautiful when she smiles her sullen scowls do nothing for her x

Yes, the Joss Stone outfit is fab! I'll refrain from commenting on the propriety of talking on one's cell phone from a wedding!

Just bringing my comments from the other thread to this one--seemed to make more sense to me. Regarding VB's expression, I have read that she is embarrassed of her teeth and tries not to smile because she thinks they are ugly. It's unfortunate, because I think she's wrong, but I guess everyone has the things they hate about themselves. I agree with those who thought she looked great. Actually, one of my favorites of the entire wedding.

In case shabbychic comes to this thread, I just wanted to say that I didn't think that Kate's neckline was too low at all, particularly since you couldn't even see any cleavage. With her dress having to be so covered up, I can understand why she wanted a lower neckline, so that she didn't appear too boring/traditional/old.

Kate's dressing reminded of this one (but with lace sleeves) from my favorite movie:

oh it's still such fun to pour over the photos. My favourite wedding guests of the days are still Samantha Cameron (although I agree with Fi that a fascinator would be nice) and Princess Letizia (sp?) of Spain.

Just had an aha moment, simple shape with texture. Love it.

With regards to Victoria Beckham, I think she deserves the benefits of the doubt (and I'm not a VB fan in general), the prospect of sitting for hours in a Cathedral whilst pregnant would be enough to make most mum to be's scowl a little. I also believe she made an effort to look understated on this occasion.

ETA Can you imagine being this happy at work

As a fellow sleeve-wearing bride (we got married in January in Chicago!) I thought it was so refreshing to see a beautiful gown with sleeves. You wouldn't believe what I went through trying to find a gown with sleeves -- even 10 years ago, it was all strapless, all the time. I hope Kate's dress singlehandedly brings back sleeves!

Apparently there was a copy for sale in London 5 hours after the wedding. Yes more variety in bridal wear would be lovely Laura.

I was a long sleeve wearing bride too - right in the middle of Summer!!! (I posted my wedding dress on our blog a few years ago).

I think Maria's entire bridal outfit in the Sound Of Music was nicer than Kate's. Her hair and veil looked much better to my eye, and the dress sans lace was stronger. Don't shoot me. This is all very subjective - and I've mentioned a few times already how much I loved Kate's dress!!

I was a long-sleeve-wearing bride TWICE! LOL

I also thought Princess Letizia was a real style star among the guests.

Here is a site I often get glued to--she has a nice little bit on the gown and bouquet--but I warn you ----You will not stop on page two~!

And apparently Pippa's backside from the wedding has it's own facebook page.

Regarding a hatless Mrs Cameron - apparently the dress code on the invite stated hats to be worn. Perhaps the Cameron children were being little nightmares and she just didn't have time to get the hat placement right?

Steph - as someone who used to have really bad teeth I completely understand if that was the reason. Overtime, how you old your face does become a habit.

Julie - good point about being pregnant. Remembering myself at that stage I would have been terribly worried about access to a bathroom (or lack of access!)

What did everyone think about David Beckham's outfit? He does have the body of a model so always looks good, not sure what I thought about the tie. My husband liked it though!

anf finally, funny comment from a friend's little girl. Apparently, Kate is not a princess as her dress was not pink!

Oh. my. goodness.

That is priceless!!!

To say nothing of the apparent lack of glitter...

that's the influence of Disney for you! If only the coach was actually a pumpkin!

Just to apologise for any little typos - one handed in a darkened room doesn't lend itself to accuracy!

Have you seen the cartwheel in the Abbey?

Yikes repost!!

Speaking of fascinators, apparently Princess Beatrice loves her crazy hats. Here is a slideshow on people.com if anyone wants to see more of her (utterly fantastic, in my opinion) fascinators: http://www.people.com/people/package/gallery/0,,20395222_20485982,00.html?stitched

Oh, they are called fascinators...I had no idea...just learned something! we need something equally as fascinating here

I thought the entire wedding and attendees were all just gorgeous!! VB looked amazing considering she is pregnant. A wonderful mother and devoted wife...with a fabulous collection of Birkins to boot
thanks for the link Steph.

It must have been something to see this first hand!

Okay, I am a big enough woman to change my opinion when presented with new information. Obviously Eugenie and especially Beatrice have been marching to their own style drummer for quite some time, and their wedding outfits are perfectly consistent with that. So I take back my snide comment and tip my fascinator to both of them!

I thought Kate's dress was lovely and she clearly looked very pretty, but I was not crazy about her hair or makeup to be honest. I can't really put my finger on why, except to say that (to me) it made her appear almost a little bit haggard and the makeup seemed a little bit overdone. I do appreciate that she did her own makeup though! I thought her face looked prettier in the photos of the second (evening) dress.

My favorite part of the wedding was the hats/fascinators! But then again I am mildly obsessed with fascinators in general....

Re: long sleeved wedding dresses. I believe that, if it's not specifically required, covering up a bride's shoulders is at least strongly encouraged for a high church Anglican wedding ceremony such as this. My friend who also had a similar ceremony had a lot of problems finding a wedding dress with shoulder coverage and ultimately ended up wearing a little jacket/bolero type thing over a sleeveless dress.

I'll say one thing about fascinator hats: they are indeed fascinating! I love them, mainly because they are so much fun to make fun of. Fascinators add extra pleasure to watching royal events.

A woman who wears a huge or very silly hat does make a statement -- a positive one, I think -- about her confidence, humour and sense of fun. There's a tongue-in-cheek element to it. You have to be able to laugh at yourself a bit.

Taylor, I totally agree we should have something like fascinators here. I actually bought a fascinator last summer, and I have worn it out several times. I'm sure people think I am nutso, but I love it and it makes me smile. I made sure to put it on at 4 a.m. as I watched the wedding (alone, on my couch, in my flannel pajamas).

I loved the dress and thought it was all very 'Kate as she is now'. I can understand the parts of it that could have been done 'better' (Angie, I'd love to know what you think she could have done with her hair and about a veil) but I rather like that it was all so her, including the make up.

It's all the sign of someone who has the confidence to do what they want, but who also understands that every detail signifies something. I remember reading that when their relationship was first public, if they went out to clubs or parties, Kate wouldn't drink and would always redo her make up before leaving to avoid any disastrous candid shots from the paparazzi. I admire that in her situation.

I look forward to seeing how her style develops.

Loved Samantha Cameron's dress and also Victoria Beckham's. DH unimpressed with David Beckham because of the details in the dress he got wrong, but above all rather than looking sulky, I thought they just looked quite uncomfortable and nervous. They are superstars, but this was an environment they clearly weren't used to, surrounded by the great and the good. I have a great deal of time for them both - I admire them because I think that underneath it all they are probably quite ordinary, and also they have stuck together through some very bad times and that counts for a lot with me.

Not a fan of Beatrice and Eugenie, sorry, but can admire them in some ways and this thread has helped me do that.

Will the fashion icon Kate Middleton put an end to the reign of the porn that has plagued mainstream fashion? An writer at Slate speculates.

"As I watched her sailing down the aisle like a romance novel heroine, a serious question formed itself under that powdered wig of mine. Might the lovely Kate, with her modest allure, her natural bosom and her quiet mystery, have the power to stem the flood of boob-jiggling hooker style which has engulfed not just fashion, but our entire culture? Could April 29, 2011 mark the beginning of a whole new era of elegant restraint?

An entire generation has grown up in a world of hair extensions, pneumatic hooters, and stripper poles. In the absence of a Jackie Kennedy or a Grace Kelly, these kids—and their mothers!—have been subjected to an unadulterated diet of Girls Gone Wild, busty Real Housewives, Jenna Jameson, and The Girls Next Door. The message? "Hotness" is the single viable currency. The only effective way to get attention is to flaunt your lady bits. Now along comes Kate (...)"

It might very well be... and would then be witnessing an exceptional moment of fashion history! As this other journalist cleverly points out: "Even when we kick against the fashion system, we end up adopting a fashionable boot. "

MaryK, you are a doll and get the next YLF award. You impress me no end

Polly, I'd have liked to see her hair pulled back a little in front with the veil further back on her head. More classic and less frumpy.

Thanks for the links, Steph! I hope we see your hat one day.

I LOVE the wedding hat culture in the UK. My SIL who lives in London has been to a few weddings there and her hats are sublime. Too bad they literally knock my brother out when she wears them. Sudden hat movements can be lethal.

Julie, thx for posting the link - impressive cartwheels!

Let's see, so much has already been said on this thread. I was surprised at how into the royal wedding I was....I watched some of the shows on TV leading up to the event and got up at 5:45 AM my time to watch it! I like Kate's ceremony dress; I think she had so much pressure to meet requirements of what is expected in the dress of a future queen and managed to do that while still looking modern. Pippa's dress was amazing as well and more to my liking but certainly did not have the same effect. I'm not a hug fan of veils so I didn't love the way she did hers and agree that further back on her head would have been better but not sure how that works with a veil that goes in front as well.

I've never seen the two princesses before and thought their hats and their outfits were horrid but if they are known for that style then that's all there is. Just not my personal taste. I liked Victoria Beckham's dress and fascinator. I just loooove fascinators. One of my good friends is likely to eventually marriage her British boyfriend and I can't wait to wear a fascinator at their wedding! Hopefully I can buy one in the US!
