WARNING: I'm about to post a link with many pictures of Sarah Palin. This is for fashion/style reasons, not to talk about politics. Unfortunately, she's the only example of this that I found.

I just came across a website where they photoshopped out Sarah Palin's hairstyle, makeup, glasses and accessories. You can move the mouse over each image to see the original. The change is astounding. It just goes to show how some small changes make a HUGE impact.

Wow, she's probably the first person I think that REALLY looks better with glasses that without them!! They bring out her beautiful eyes! At the beginning I thought her real look was the one with shorter her, but I see that it's not. I like her original style way more

PS: Yeah, I know little about American politics, and although I DID know who that woman was, my memory sucks so I just forgot... besides, I tend to not remember famous people's 'actors, singers, politicians...' appearance lol

wow! that is amazing. I agree with Airin.. she looks so much better with glasses. She also looks much better with longer hair... and I am usually firmly in team short hair.
I must say though.. she look so much more like a politician in the photoshopped versions ;-P It makes you wonder if she would be taken more seriously with a more bland look.

Airin, She was the former governor of Alaska, and John McCain's running mate in our last election.

Wow, she really uses her hair and accessories to her best advantage! I couldn't help but notice though in the unaccessorized look, her lips, hair and skin has a grey tone which probably isn't accurate. Plus, her eyes still have the shadows from her glasses. So I think it's kind of intentional to make her look worse than she does.

I think i also look better with my glasses on. And i just adore how this pics show the power of a little dangly earrings. They look soo good with her face.

That's neat! I really think that glasses make you look younger and hide any imperfections around your eyes ... I don't really like her look though; but it seems to work for her

It is impossible for me to look at Sarah Palin objectively. However, I will say that her look was quite different than either of these extremes pre-VP run. She was not severe, and she did not wear glasses either. The Republican party made her over specifically to project the image she has now embraced.

I, too, think she looks better with the glasses..quite a feat. She really knows how to accessorize. Her eyes are one of her better features and the glasses that she wears really play them up.

Wow, glasses really suit her and frame her face perfectly - it makes me want to go and get my eyes tested! It is certainly a transformation between the two looks.

that site is interesting, i received it from a number of people during the last US presidential race. they left on her foundation/contour/blush and most of her eye makeup, so the 'editing' is a little arbitrary. i pointed out to the people who sent me the link that pretty much ALL politicians in the public eye do the hair, makeup, clothing, etc. - because that's what everyone on TV does, & if you don't do it you're going to look pretty bedraggled in comparison. but Palin was still seen as somehow 'different' that way - i don't really know why. it seems like 'the media' like to find stereotypes that they can fit people into, maybe it makes an easier story? i can't say.

but take a look at Pelosi, Clinton,. Feinstein, Boxer, Albright, Bachmann - none of these ladies are 'wash and go'! steph

Anya, I was thinking the same thing - though I don't love all of her earrings, she is able to wear both earrings and glasses at the same time without going overboard on accessories.

mrseccentric, completely! I have no problem with politicians, or anyone, wearing make-up and putting time into looking their best. Especially when they're always in the public eye. In fact it makes me feel kinda sorry for men that they don't have the same options, and it is a big deal if a male politician potentially dyes his hair (there were false rumors about Obama), styles his hair oddly (Trump), or fake tans (Boehner).

Anya and Kari, I think she can get away with the earrings and glasses because her tops and jackets are streamlined solids. If she kept wearing the patterns and ruffles that she used to, it wouldn't look as good. It also looks like she never wears a necklace with dangly earrings, just pins. I think that the rimless frame on the glasses also helps to keep from overwhelming her face when paired with the earrings.

My glasses are much more statement-y and bold, plus my currently shorter hair shows off earrings quite well, so I'm more comfortable wearing big necklaces rather than earrings unless I have my contacts on.

I did think it was "unfair" to photoshop out the hair length/color and lipstick because it didn't provide a realistic comparison.

This might be a good exercise for some of us to try at home as well. Take a headshot from the same angle with different hairstyles/earrings/accessories. It's much easier to pick out the best option when you can look at the photos side by side instead of trying to remember what something looked like in the mirror.

Wow that's a really big difference. There was one day I went to work in such a rush and so tired, I forgot to put on my make-up, everyone was doing double takes the entire day. It goes to show the effort you put into a look really does make a difference.

I agree that she suits the glasses, although I wonder if part of the reason her eyes didn't look quite so sparkly without them was that they also photoshopped out the eye makeup? As a gal with pale gingery eyelashes, I know how much of a difference a coat of mascara and some liner can make!

Isabel, yeah, it really shows just how much of a person's appearance is determined by their self presentation. Genes certainly play a role, but we are definitely in control of a lot of how we look.
