The one thing I really miss

We are selling & donating almost everything we own so we can retire in Mexico. Of all the things I have gotten rid of, I really miss my full length mirror. The mirror tells me the truth, & I can see what aspects of my outfits I need to adjust or get rid of.

It’s been a while since I had one, so I can relate. I’ve wanted to change apartments for a long time. When we finally do, I’ll get my mirror. I hope you can pick up a new one for your new place soon.

It’s this situation that led me to surreptitious ladies room pictures, which is too late! I’ve already left the house looking as I do!

Hmmmm....
IKEA sells a mirror in the kids department that is non-breakable and comes with stick on tape. You can put a bunch in a row horizontally and get a full size mirror, but these would be packable in a suitcase or bag. Would fit nicely on the back of a door.

When space is an issue, install a full length mirror on the back of a door.

I was also going to suggest the stick-on mirror tiles. I had one of those when I lived in a studio apartment, and it was so handy (and very sturdy). I put it on the inside of my bathroom door.

Where to put one….back of a door is classic. We kids all had them on our bedroom doors. Our parents’ was on the walk-in closet in a way that it could be used with the half mirror above the sink to see the back of your head. I’m thinking I’ll want two—one on the back of the front door to check my look just before I go out, and a cool vintage cheval mirror for the bedroom. I plan to also use my bedroom to workout, so will need it to check my form. Even if the art nouveau style I’m looking for doesn’t appeal to you, there are tons of free-standing floor mirrors you can consider, as you’re getting unpacked and settled in. Then you can move it around based on the sun.

Our full length mirror is on the inside ( back) of a bathroom door.

I have the IKEA stick on mirrors @chewy mentions but, like @stag, I'm struggling with where to attach it - renting unfortunately means I can't attach it to a door without ruining its paintwork.

You shouldn't have this issue though

Zaeobi, you can get a mirror on hooks to hang over a door, or if it’s an actual wood door, hardware to affix it to the door. I don’t have or want adhesive backed mirrors. Nothing against them, just no need. Not sure who you are referring to with “struggling”.

My mirror is from IKEA and does the job well. I used to try to stand on a stool in my bathroom (not a good idea) to see how shoes match an outfit.

I misread your ellipses after 'where to put on' as pondering, rather than an answer segue.

Hooks sound practical, but they stop the door from fully closing.

Great advice, everyone. Thanks! Whatever mirror I buy will have to be bought in Mexico. Our condo has Mexican architecture, including arched doors, so there’s no way I can hang anything on a door. The walls, including all interior walls, are concrete. I imagine I’ll try to get a mirror that can be hung in an inconspicuous place.

Leaning a full length mirror against a wall seems to be a ‘thing’. Maybe one in a frame that has a distinct Mexican art style frame to co-ordinate with your decor? A mirror is great for bouncing light into dark areas. You can move it around, and audition it in different places until you find the perfect spot. Hallway? Bedroom?
