The One that got away...

When I was dress shopping on the weekend (I was actually returning a dress but ended up buying three replacements), I tried on this dress but it was white with black piping. I was very close to buying it but ended up leaving it behind. It felt just the slightest bit snug in the shoulders but both my partner and the sales clerk thought it was a keeper. Now I am having non-buyer remorse. What do you think of this dress?

It's very pretty and I think it would look great on you! When you say it was snug on the shoulders though, would it restrict your movement and be uncomfortable? If so I would pass. If not, grab it!

I can see how this dress would look fabulous on you in either white or blue, but I can very much see how it could be tight at the shoulders and even uncomfortable if it were to shrink at all. Do you think the snugness would keep you from reaching for it?

If I had a white dress, it would always be at the cleaners. How about you? And with the piping, I would be completely paranoid that the color would run and the piping would shrink so I would be afraid to hand wash it or run it in the machine on delicate.

If you are still thinking about it tomorrow after work, go back and try it on again. And even if you buy it, I am assuming it is returnable, too?

It is a great dress. I often find that my first thoughts are right though, and when I go back to try something I am still not sure.
What Donna said is good advice, maybe you need to take it home and take your time deciding?

It wasn't uncomfortable at all - just a touch snug. I will think about it for a few days. I actually think I might prefer the blue but I usually have at least one white dress and I like the graphic look of the black stripes on white. It is cotton spandex blend so it should be washable but that is an excellent point Donna.

Dianthus that is a lovely dress. I have a similar one in blue with cream trim and it is so easy and cool to wear. I think the comfort factor is really important so I would say go back and try it again and take it home if you need to think about it. Do they have a good returns policy? I think the style would be lovely on you.

There is a style of shoulder on a sleeveless dress where the center seam from your
neck to the shoulder is split just a bit, like the bottom of a capri pant. Wonder if that
would do the trick for you. Or is the armscye too tight? Can be deepened. Or do you not have enough shoulder height? Old style clothes had seams that could be let out and would give you an extra inch in the bodice. Nowadays probably have to add some contrast black fabric along the shoulder seam line in order to enlarge the bodice length from that point.

That is a classic and beautiful dress and I can totally understand why you are so drawn to it! I only saw it in the blue on Amazon but would love it in the black and white also. Which store did you see it in?

I agree with Deborah - the dress is great and you would look smashing in it. But it needs to be tried for comfort and ease of movement.
