The next leg of my style journey...

I have been pondering where to go in the next year, now that I've learned so much from Angie and all of you. I have definitely made a lot of mistakes (see Natalie's thread on this issue!) but have taken away lessons from all of them, I hope.

Now I'd like to focus on making it all work together. I don't think I'm a worthy candidate for total SYC, but I do think I'm going to try focusing on one item per month, trying to find the perfect version. If after a month it hasn't been found, I'll put it on the back burner and move onto something else on the list. Then I can re-evaluate the list as I go to see if the back burner items are still wants or needs. I'm hoping this method will satisfy my need to obsess as well as my goal of not purchasing tons of random new stuff that just gets returned or sits unused. This month's goal is slouchy pants.

I am hoping to streamline and find more items that cross over my work/casual looks. In that vein I'm hoping to go in a bit of the clean lines/androgyny direction, which hopefully complements UWP and can be dressed up some. I do have an occasional dressy -girly side, but that capsule is full and not often needed in my life.

Any thoughts are appreciated, but no need for responses - I just wanted to post here for some accountability so you all can call me out when I stray! You all are THE BEST!

That sounds like such an excellent plan Una - I may have to somehow combine your plan with my plan! I especially like the "back burner" idea - very sound.

Sound great! I'd join you all if I weren't already SYC committed. In essence, I'll be catching up and getting all 6 items at once in about 5 month's time lol.

Sidebar: My new year's resolution, I have just decided, is to seriously shrink my wardrobe. I was sorting laundry last night, and enough is enough! I just have too many clothes! I love them all, and have already culled to *things I've worn in the past year,* but it's still way too much.

Sounds like a good plan! Also, I think you have a good sense of style and you are prepared to asses if the items you want are perfect!
So my only piece of advice is don't beat yourself up if the perfect something doesn't appear when you want. It may appear the next month, or you may change the definition of perfection when some other crosses your path. Also, I dig the uwp vibe in your style!

Sounds like a plan, Una! If the first year was a year of purchasing and trying out, this year can be a year of refining. I think Transcona Shannon might be a good model to you in this, and I see you've already been doing what she does: trying to style the items already in your closet in ways you like and rejecting if they don't work. If you keep doing that, you'll keep paring down while you continue to look for key new items to update and solidify your style (or styles). Because you know, maybe you're just an eclectic at heart and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that!!

Ooh, I love this, because your goals are similar to my own (streamline and cross items over from work to play, focusing in on a dressed up UWP look) - I am sure to look to your outfits/purchases for ideas/solutions.

I am also with you on a starting goal of slouchy pants. My Esprit order shall arrive today! We can crack this pants nut yet.

You are so good at finding things that I never seem to spy, so I'm going be following you as well. Will let you know when my AS shipment arirves, and where are your Esprit pants?

A very well-thought-out plan Una! I might have to do something like that to, rather than go strict SYC (which I broke after a week, haha). Can't wait to see how the item of the month pans out

Good plan. It really takes the pressure out of shopping if you focus on one item at a time. Mind you if something else on your list happens to throw itself in front of you, then that's an unexpected bonus!

Good plan, Una! Do you have a phone that can hold notes? I think you should make a list with several things you desire, and keep it on your phone; while looking for the perfect slouchy pants, you may find one of the other things on your list.

You also said you plan to go the "clean lines/androgyny direction", to which I say you are already headed in that direction. No more overthinking now! Dress and have fun

I have started a list on my phone, actually, for that very reason. Now I just have to stick with it!
