Very disappointed :(. That was a real HEWI for me... a trench/dress coat that looked good, AND was waterproof. Well, wore mine today for the first time in wet weather, and when I got home, after only being outside for about 10 min, the sleeves of my sweater were soaked.

Back to the drawing board.

That's a drag. And it was such a good color for you. Would you consider Scotch garding it?

I was just checking that Lisa, and technically, no. It calls itself a raincoat, but nowhere does it say it's waterproof. Go figure.

Ummlila, I do have various waterproofing treatments, meant for Goretex once it's aged/washed/no longer pristine, that I may use. Or I may just resign myself to it being a nice trench coat that MIGHT be water resistant enough for the two blocks I need to walk between work and the car, and keep looking for something else. I don't think I'm going to complain/try to return, as I DO like it, esp the removable lining feature, just was hoping for more.

How can something be a raincoat and not be waterproof? That is pretty ridiculous. I'd return it and hold out for something better.

That seems odd. "Rain coat" sort of implies water proof or at LEAST water resistant for more than 10 minutes :p

I'm sorry. That's really too bad. My husband always says to go with gear companies for function. He does not like fashion companies for this kind of thing. I'd return it unless you just like the looks of it.

I have a Patagonia Vosque 3 in 1 coat and on the Patagonia website it says "waterproof". A couple weeks of drizzle, rain and snow in Turkey last winter proved them right. However, it's not a trench, I'm sorry to say.

The only coats that are waterproof are rubber or some similar type of fabric...with sealed seams. This one did not say it was "waterproof", so caveat emptor. Rubber slickers and their ilk are waterproof.

I followed your link and I agree with Aida that calling it a "raincoat" means it's for wearing in the rain.

I'd call Nordstrom about it. At best, they'll refund you, at worst they'll note your complaint.

Oh no! I've worn mine a few times, but always had an umbrella so far. I wasn't expecting waterproof, but kind of assumed water resistant. I really wanted this to be my bad weather trench for the foreseeable future too.

Sorry folks, ended up spending the evening sewing a Halloween costume. I'd assumed I had sat to work on it, but turns out it's needed for school tomorrow. still some work to do, going to be an interesting morning...

I have always gone with real gear raincoats in the past, and actually have quite a nice Columbia coat that doesn't scream gear, but it's in a colour that isn't my best. North face had a nice one a couple of years ago, which I have kicked myself for not getting. But I would have had to get black, which I was hoping to avoid (too many black coats!).

I'm someone who refuses to be bossed around by the weather, you just can't be, living in the maritimes.

Anyway, thanks for the commiseration.

Along Lake Ontario we are getting the tail end of some hurricane or other. Lots of rain yesterday, and cold today. I got myself a collapsible umbrella at Harry Rosen that is quite lovely.

This is really strange. I wore mine on a recent trip with 3 really rainy days and we stayed outside for hours. My shoes got wet but the jacket kept me dry. Maybe yours is defective? Definitely call Nordstrom to complain about the quality.

Great to hear from Sveta. Gorgeous coat and worth a second try. I recently used a breathable waterproof spray on a pack able raincoat I purchased at Nordstrom. It seemed water resistant, but I couldn't take a chance on a trip. It worked out great after it was kept hanging in the garage for a few days to air it out post-spray.

I have a red MK raincoat in the same style from several years back; no problems. But we've had a severe drought since that purchase so it's never been through drenching rain. For that, I would probably wear my Eddie Bauer gear jacket.

Well, I will admit the rain was pretty "drenching". Maybe I was expecting too much... but I had errands to do!

I don't think it is expecting too much for a "raincoat" to withstand rain. At minimum, it should have kept the rain off the inner layer even if it wasn't totally waterproof.
