High five, K. We are '80s gals. The music - and I do favour British '80s music - puts us into SUCH a good mood, doesn't it? The weekend has started.

Thistle, I was watching how stylish the '80s were. Truly. So much of today's great fashion is rooted in the '80s.

Oh, yeah. That movie came out the year I had my first apartment on my own. I had an exposed brick wall in my living room, and my sister-in-law worked for a video distributor and got me a Stop Making Sense poster. I framed it and hung it on the brick wall.

I never felt so hip in my life, and it made me forget that my living room was about 6' x 8'.

So perms. I had them all through high-school and college. At my best it was Julia Roberts, at the worst, it was def leppard music video girl trying to disguise root grow out with lots of teasing.

But did they completely disappear from the earth? I was talking to my hairdresser and it seems like no one does them anymore, she doesn't even remember learning how to give one.

If fashion is cyclical will perms come back?

A good friend of mine in Tahoe is a HUGE fan and we keep joking that he needs to get his own big white suit. He even knows all the moves to a lot of the songs off the DVD. There is a tribute band that plays in the area that I saw last summer that was so much fun - Naive Melodies.

80's music was the soundtrack of my adolescence. It brings back such fond memories. I had a mustard yellow suit with huge shoulder pads and a perm like rabbits. I don't think either did me any favours!

Rabbit- perms? (Insert scream from the depths here.....) all the truly fashionable people had them! Did anyone own a (hair) crimper?

Lol fuzzylogic. Nope I didn't have a crimper. But before the 'rents allowed me to get a perm there was the occasional attempt to do my whole head with a curling iron.

Wow, Janet, Mo and April. Sooooo fun I can barely stand it. Loved those stories.

Rabbit, Fuzzy and K, I applaud your '80s hairstyles. That WAS fashion. Good for you. I had short back and sides and a teased foot high front rock formation - thanks to magic spray - with long fringe and two side tails. The broader your shoulders and bigger your hair - the better you looked back then.

As for perms - they are very hip and happening in Japan, Korea and China with the men especially. Those perms aren't spiral curls though. The perms give hair body and wave so that it can be moulded into a style more easily, if you know what I mean. The blokes look fabulous with these cool hairstyles.

And I had a hair crimper AND had a double breasted red skirt suit with gigantic shoulder pads. I used to wear it with a white button up buttoned to the top - I loved that suit

Lol Caro! It was a great suit. British 80's music was the soundtrack to my adolescence (waving to Sharon) too. TH were brilliant but my collection (and I still have a lot of it) was firmly British. I am currently "educating" Master 11 on 80's music and must get showing him some visuals:). Thanks Angie! Heading out now and will be popping some Ultravox on in the car;)

I love shoulder pads. No let me change that. I need shoulder pads. Bring them back. I saw a suit in Zara with shoulder pads and pleats. Maybe I will buy it and dance to Talking Heads. No perm. I will crunch my hair instead.

OOh! My favourite concert film of all time. Talking Heads were one of my favourite bands. I still listen to them. Yes, even now. And I maintain the music holds up.

Angie- "same as it ever was" for fashion as well.
I can remember wearing turquoise over dyed skinnies, black pumps, longgg sweatshirt and a fedora to go clubbing, lol. And yes, permed hair cuz I didn't realize it's actually curly! I was also about the Brit bands, esp. Ska influenced. Madness, the Jam, Haircut 100, oh man, now it gotta break out the jams! Popping my collars and double Swatches on one wrist!
