Dad is in the hospital again. He was having blood in his urine and my sister thought it might be an infection since he has been very prone to them. They did a colonoscopy (he had colon cancer a couple years ago, and prostate cancer many years back). They found a large mass in his rectum and did a biopsy to fond out what kind of cancer it is. It's not operable...he's nearly 83 and in poor health on top of his dementia. This was the same surgeon who did his colon cancer surgery. He said he was surprised that my dad is still alive, given how advanced his colon cancer was (which is not what he told us at the time of his surgery). Anyway...they have referred him to pallative care and said all we can do is try to keep him comfortable. My sister wants to keep him home as long as possible before he goes to hospice. I'm trying to wrap my head around it all...
