the j brand skinnies - keep or return?

Arrgh! The exchange came today. I so love the color. I had to size up and frankly, I don't feel much of a difference at all. The new size looks a bit looser, though - which I like, as the skin-tight ones were a little obscene.

I don't know if they work as well on me as they do on Sarah, though. What do y'all think? I've cuffed them twice here...

Hmm, Una, I'm not sure I like how baggy they are on your calves..it makes the whole look a little less sleek, so to speak.

OT: If there's one body trait that's common to Indians, it's skinny calves I don't subscribe to the idea of an Indian "body type" (it's common in the media to suggest that Indians, Hispanics, African-Americans are all curvy, when they actually come in a huge variety of body types of course) but this is one trait I've noticed in the vast majority of Indians, no matter what the rest of their body is like. Both men and women, as well.

Needless to say, I have skinny calves too

I should add that maybe it's the cuffing that makes the pants look less sleek, and I agree with rosee that they should be longer.

Exactly. They may look better if I get them hemmed instead of rolling in a half-a$$ way.

Why DO we all have skinny calves? I hated my legs forever because of my scrawny calves. Even when I was running half-marathons, they just got stringier. Those dudes biking up the hills of Ladakh with grand pianos on their back and no gears on their bike - how is it possible?!

Hm. They don't really look like skinnies, for whatever reason. To me, they look baggy in the knee as well as the calf...

Una, don't feel bad about your calves, they're perfectly lovely! A few people have actually envied mine because they have larger calves and feel that their legs don't look as long because of that.

But yeah, we really do all have skinny calves

Hmm. I'm with Rae. They don't really look like skinnies. They seem baggy in the thigh a little bit, too. But it could just be the rolling. It really is hard to tell when they get bunched like that. The colour is great on you!

I really like them!! Once hemmed, I think you will be set. They don't HAVE to be skinnies. I think you should be comfortable with the fit for certain.

Love the color and color blocking. I'm with Angie and want to see them unrolled. Maybe if they're scrunched the looseness around calves will be more acceptable.

They look like straight leg to me and I think they work, especially if you thought one size down is too tight.
I have opposite problem with my calves: straight leg look like skinnies on them and some skinnies I cannot even gen on - so yes, I do envy skinnier calves!

Hmmm . . . I would have liked to have taken a look at the first size that you ordered because to me, these just look way too baggy - I'm wondering if the smaller size was really as obscene as you thought? Anyway, unroll those cuffs and lets take a look at these that way! (Love the color blocking!)

Love that color, but they *do* look a bit baggy, so I'll hold out until we see new pics of unrolled.

If your heart isn't set on Skinnies, they would be a great Straight/Almost Skinny. . .

P.S. Between your super slender calves and my super shapely (as Angie kindly says) calves, there must be a huge grey area where all the lucky calves live!

I fell in love with the whole thing...hat, sweater, pants! I have skinny calves and like them...all boots fit!
I would love to see rear, side views and unrolled as well!

Well, I held onto both sizes, in case I had to return both, so I will post photos of both tomorrow unrolled. I am willing to hem if that is the concensus.

Angie's post here shows some knee bagginess, but not to the degree they are on me. I think it's because I need to be about a foot taller. I don't mind how they look, but if they are a fashion blunder due to not fitting right in the calves, then back they go.

I like them and don't mind the baggy fit. They lean more towards a straight leg than a skinny jean due to the baggy-ness. The color is to die for on you!

They fit us so differently! I sized up for the thigh, but the waist is a hair loose. How do these fit your waist?
They look more like a straight leg to me, which is fine if it's the look you're going for.
If not, try other options, like Zara has some fab skinnies right now.

Sarah, I sized up for the waist, and now they are a little baggy in the thigh! I think you're an hourglass, and I'm an IT... You look so much better than I do in them.

I've taken a billion photos of both sizes this morning, and as I can't seem to even take a photo that doesn't show all the concerns I have with them, I think they both need to go back. I am so sad because I love the color. But I just don't have the body for them.

AG, I don't mind the fit at all, it sort of looks like a cargo fit. In the shot you posted though the longer cardigan fastened combined with the high vamp shoes shortens the look of the length of your legs. I imagine with your shoes off and a cardi opened the effect may be quite different.

Man, what a bummer!! Are you sure you couldn't post the pics for us to evaluate? I genuinely love the fit of these on you!! They don't just look passable, they look *good*! I don't see why they need to be tight through your calves for them to be stylish :). To me, they fit your RATE style perfectly.

If I don't have the expectation that these should be really fitted, than I think they look good. Just get the hems sort out I am wild about this color combo. Gorgeous!
