Thanks to Rae, I ordered four pairs of Frye boots. But I can only keep one of these beauties.

1-4) Black Frye Melissa: Love them with dresses. I definitely need to loosen the laces to get them over jeans. Are they too high for me? I can sit down with my knees at a 90 degree angle. If I sit down on a low sofa, then the back of my legs will hit the boot top.

RULED OUT: 5-8) Grey Frye Maxine Trapunto Harness: Pleasantly rugged. Too loose for bare legs. Still a bit loose with jeans. I like them but not as much as the others.

RULED OUT: 9-12) Black Frye Shirley: I fell in love with these boots last year but never ordered them. They feel large on my feet in the size 9. I think I'd be more comfortable in an 8.5. Also, they feel a bit too biker for me and I still have a pair of black flat boots with at least another year of wear on them.

13-15) Violet Frye Carson Shortie: I would always wear these with boot cut jeans and not with skirts. Love the color and love the fit.

Right now, it's a tossup between the first and last pair (Melissas and Carsons). What do you think?

Ooh, the wait is over!

I definitely like the Melissa boots the best so far. Seems like they might be a smidge tall... maybe wear and walk in them and see if they relax? My Julias got a bit shorter as the ankle softened up.

Man, I wanted to like those gray ones in theory, but I agree with you. It almost looks like they can't decide if they want to be a tall boot or a slouch boot.

Ooh, a showdown!

I have the Frye Phillips harness in a mid-calf height and I have been loving them. They are similar to the third pair here so that's my vote. However, I ADORE the violet Carsons and would have gotten those had they not been too wide in the shaft for my skinny calves.

The only one I'm a clear nay on is the grey second pair. Just meh compared to the rest.

Rae: I remember you (and maybe others) mentioning your Julias slouched a little over time. I can see the Melissas doing the same as there is already some creasing around the ankle. You are so right about the grey boots - they are somewhere in between a slouch and a tall boot - I wouldn't kick them out of my closet if they were free, but just not as fab as the rest.

Una: The violet Carsons are pretty awesome. I just can't decide between them and the Melissas. I love my red Frye Philips (ankle height) too. Maybe when I'm ready for a new pair of flat black ankle boots, I'll just duplicate the Philips as well.

The Frye boots are all so sturdy. I may never buy a pair of non-Frye boots again (ok, I might make an exception for Fluevogs and Ejects and...)

Oooh, I just LOVE that first pair, they look amazing with everything! I like the violet ones to, but the Melissas... WOW!

Tough choice - I sympathise! I guess you need to be practical & work out which ones you would get the most wear out of - I love the 1st the 3rd & the last.

I don't suppose there is any chance you can keep 2 is there? No 2 for 1 deal going on?

I really like the Melissas. They look great. They do seem as if they might be a smidge too tall, but if they relax some, they should be fine.

But the Carsons are adorable on you - you have just the right shaped leg to wear these with dresses. They look funky and cute and fun and also solid. And they show off the lovely curve of your calf and ankle.

So...I'm not much help. But at least I have helped to eliminate two from the running?

I love one and four! I don't think you can go wrong with either of those, but I wholeheartedly agree with Suz- the Carsons look great with your legs and I think they'd look great with dresses. I actually think the Melissas look like the right height to me, but I'm a novice with knee-highs, so take that for what it's worth!

I like the Melissas and the Shirleys best.

I was going to encourage the Shirleys a little more, but if you have this look represented in your wardrobe - the Melissas are a better idea.

The colour on the last ones was so much fun!

Do you already have tall boots? How many pairs of ankle boots do you have? Maybe that will help you decide. If one is filling a hole better than the other, that might help tilt you in one direction or the other.

Here is my boot collection! I don't really *need* any more boots.

The Shirleys were intended to replace #6, which I'm no longer fond of as the leather just hasn't held up well. I think they'll be worn out completely after another winter, so I will wait on replacing them until then. Also, I really do need to size down and the 8.5s aren't available.

#1 has been my tall flat black boot substitute and #4 has been my goto pair of black heeled boots. I would like a pair of tall flat black boots, which is where the Melissas come in.

On the other hand, I already have two pairs of black boots, I don't have blue boots in my wardrobe and I would really get use out of the Carsons. The boots that get the most use in my wardrobe already are #5 and #6 because they are so easy to wear with jeans.

I (and all of you) really love the Melissas so those are probably what I would end up keeping. Though if I could get a two for one deal, I'd definitely keep the Carsons too!

I'm odd woman out because I like the 2nd and 3rd pairs the best :)! The first pair looks too tall for you, IMHO. I love the fit and look of the 2nd ones and the 3rd ones are very cool and seem versatile.

Feedback from the husband:

Melissa's are very tall and corset-y and have S&M associations. Also, he couldn't think of where I would wear them and didn't think they were appropriate for work or general going out.

The Carsons are very bright/bold but otherwise fine.

He knows I always get compliments on my shoes but both pairs are out there. Don't people generally wear dark shoes?

So clearly his tastes in shoes are much more conservative than mine, not that he would never try to tell me not to buy or not to wear a particular pair. But they're not going to get any love at home.

Despite being a smidge tall, the Melissas are my favorite of the bunch.

But oh, the violet Carsons made my heart pitter-patter! I love that shade as well as the curry version. So pretty. I can't justify them, though - they would not fill enough of a need.

OMG, do you own purple Fluevogs? Or what are those? I need to see them in an outfit!

Now I'm waffling. I love the violet Fryes but if you already have cool purple boots, is that a repeat? And you have something similar to boot 3 in a different color. Yipes! Just get all three!

You have an amazing boot collection already! Based on what you already have I would get the Melissa. The Shirley are similar to #6 that you own and the blue Carson's are similar to #7. Not a fan of the gray boots myself.

Sorry, I still haven't decided yet (I'm going to sleep on it for several days). I really appreciate everyone's input. I tend to take forever to make major purchasing decisions - try then on, obsessively read reviews, reread your opinions over and over again. After a week or so, it will become obvious to me what the right decision is.

Una: The light purple boots are Fluevog Digs worn here with a dress that has since been tossed. The Digs have a 4 inch heel, 1 inch platform and unfortunately don't get worn often - just a bit out there for work and I'm considering selling them if I can. The Frye Carsons read as a bright blue and feel like flats, so they're a different color, saturation and heel height. Therefore, they're a totally different shoe.

Kathy: Thank you for the compliment on my boot collection. Now I'm wondering (though I know that wasn't your intent) if I should even be adding to it or just trying to wear the ones I have more often.
