I've been seeing these wide brimmed floppy felt hats all over the place. As a hat wearer, I love them....and they really match my boho sensibility. But my practical side says that I couldn't wear one while driving since it cuts into my visibility (I'm an Uber driver), and it would be rude to wear one to class and potentially block someone's view. I guess I could just save it for going out to dinner and watching my boyfriend's band play, etc. Is anyone wearing a floppy hat or struggling with the practicality of it?

I kinda feel they are more for outdoor use - maybe I'm stuck in the concept of wide brim = sun protection. I like them too!

I'm with binkie. For me, they are for outdoors. However, I find that they make my hair frizz out something horrible, argh.

I have two of them and I love them. I struggle to wear them too....as I've always thought of them as outdoor use hats. I intend to wear mine whenever going out in the daytime come Fall/Winter to open markets, outdoor lunches, etc.

Very impractical, I assure you. I have a hat like that and at a certain point I just stopped wearing it, despite I liked it and it received many compliments. As you say, it cuts into my vision. Chewy, what is a Uber driver?

I love the look of hats, but they definitely are not fun to be behind in a classroom, or even in a shopping mall if you are trying to find a store and can't see past the person in front of you. I reserve mine for outdoor venues, and travel. I might wear it in a museum when it isn't crowded and I'm sure I'm not blocking anyone's view. I like to wear them on my morning walk if it isn't too windy. A brim like that ends up blowing two ways. Up and back over the top of the hat, which looks ridiculous, or down and over your face which blocks your vision. If you are an Uber driver, don't wear one while driving with the window open!

I would wear it only outdoors, but not in the car, classroom or any indoor crowded venue.

I bought one last fall. Not practical even for going out to dinner - I'm not comfortable wearing it indoors, and where the heck do you put the thing when you take it off? My climate also rarely calls for a wide brim but wool hat. It ended up feeling a bit costume, for me - due to its lack of practicality I feel self-conscious. And I wear a lot of hats in summer and winter in different styles. The functionality carries the form. Sorry... I still love the look. And don't regret buying the hat, per se... I wore it at Halloween... I'm not helping, am I?

I have not seen the floppy hats being worn. I'm old enough that they kind of remind me of the Manson Family. (Terrible, right?)

I wear floppy hats often... mostly at the pool and at outdoor events (concerts, street fairs, flea markets, etc.). They are great for sun protection and are a fabulous boho accessory.

I pretty much only wear mine outdoors. And yeah when I don't mind losing some of my peripheral vision. I find I can't wear it in the car because the headrest gets in the way.

For other things I have smaller brimmed (but still fairly dramatic) red straw hat.

I wear them poolside, but that's about it. (Not the felt ones, they're cotton, I think. Great for shade, but too intrusive for most activities.)

Sisi- Uber is an app that you can put on your phone. It connects people needing a ride to drivers. Basicly, I am a taxi driver but use my own car. It's available in many countries.

I don't spend a lot of time outside, but my boyfriend does have some outdoor gigs and so this seems like it might be a more 'practical'item that I thought! Now I just have to decide on a color...

Thank you Chewy! By the way, I always liked your nickname. A hat like that is perfect for outdoor activities, when you don't mind the partial vision. The color depends upon your personal taste of course. Denim blue? Red? Maybe yellow? White? Mine is cream straw with a white flower on the side, just for saying.

I have a hat similar to this, but it's strictly an outdoor hat. I wear it at the beach, doing gardening and things like that to keep the sun off my face.

I tend to opt for the wider brims for outdoors and go with narrower brims for inside. This one looks good for errands/chilling outside etc.
