Thanks to all who answered my post yesterday about what to wear to a high school graduation. I was going to go ahead and order a few dresses but you convinced me that these are still fairly casual events and that I might be able to shop my closet. The goal is to look somewhat modern and appropriate. With the exception of the cobalt high/low and VC skirt, everything has been seen by the relatives before (and I'm fine with that.) I'd love to wear the tan sandals but I am open to buying a new pair if necessary (suggestions welcome. No pumps though.) If all look dated, I am open to buying a new dress. I posted some dresses that I like in picture 4.

Pic 3: VC Skirt I bought last summer and never wore because it stuck to the velcro on my boot. I realized that I don't know how to wear this thing.

KG you have some wonderful frocks. I think they all look terrific on you. My personal fave for the HS grad is the cobalt with the sandals you have paired with it. In the interests of transparency I am besotted cobalt.

My favorite is the Loft faux wrap--I'm surprised it is four years old. It fits you well and looks comfortable--not too sedate to me--but I'm a ways past high school graduate parenting. I like the cobalt as well--now that I look a second time, I like it much better. Next I like the VC skirt--those skirts are so flattering and easy to wear.

Of the ones in your cart, I am attracted to the middle one--I think you'd look great in it.

Have you asked the opinion of your graduate?

What do you mean you don't know how to wear the VC skirt? That outfit looks smashing and would be perfect for the grad! I also love the dresses, with my favourites for this occasion being the cobalt and the dotty dress.

Do you need a topper, too? If so, what have you got?

Wow, you've got some super dresses already in your closet! I don't think you need to buy something new unless you just really want to. I agree with you that the first dress looks a little too casual, although I really like it and it looks great on you. Really any of the others would be just fine. If you're going for more conservative, the Loft dress looks terrific. I'm kind of fond of the black and white polka dot one if you're going for a fun look, but truly I like them all.

i like the faux-wrap too, and you could always add a bright clutch or something if you felt like adding a fresh piece to the look. I don't think you'll go wrong in any of these though

I like the Loft faux wrap dress for this event. I agree with TG, a bright clutch would be great with it.

My absolute favourite outfit is the VC skirt and orange blouse! It looks totally modern and cool. Please wear it out somewhere else if you don't wear it for this occasion!

Thanks, Glory! I guess I'm glad that I forgot to return the cobalt after all. Good to know that high/low is still looking current.
@MM: Thank you. The Loft dress doesn't look as good IRL. It's a cotton knit so it has lost some of it's shape but not enough to put away in the give away pile. I think it has one more summer I have no doubt my grads will have an opinion but this is for the niece. She's the first on DH's side to graduate so all of the family will be there, I'm sure.
@Suz: Lol. Thanks. I'm not sure whether it needs tucking or untucking or if the blouse is too long. I need to go back to some of the VC posts to see how others have worn it. I doubt I'll need a topper--love that about our climate. It will probably be sweltering.

Thanks, Parsley, TG, Carter and Emily: Sounds like the Loft is in the lead. What color clutch are you talking about when you say “bright”? The dress is dark purple, taupe and cream. (You are talking to someone who carries pretty much one bag year round.)

@Parsley: I don’t really wear dresses enough to warrant a new one. I was only willing to buy one if none of the others worked but it sounds like I have options

@Emily: I promise. DD’s birthday dinner is Saturday so I think that’s what I will be wearing.

kellygirl, you look gorgeous in all of your dresses. I especially love the dot tank dress, but really they are all good.

I like the skirt outfit with the orange top a lot. I like it untucked. The shoes you are wearing with it are fab. It's a great outfit.

In your cart, I like the second dress best.

Somehow I completely missed the VC skirt outfits. You look FAB as can be with that orange top! Love it! But I'd stick with a dress for the graduation, if it were me.

Bright orange would be my first choice, but yellow, green, pink, red would all work.

Your existing dresses would work, I think, but I really like the VC skirt + orange top. Great for the occasion, the season, comfy and flattering with a cool pop of color.

I really love that VC shirt with the orange top and those shoes - wow! Are those shoes not comfortable enough? But of course, if you don't want to wear the skirt then I guess I'd go with the dots or the wrap dress and a bright bag. But the skirt and orange top look pretty darn amazing on you. I wouldn't buy a new dress as these are great contenders!

I love all of the dresses! I think the first one would look less casual if you paired it with the shoes you are wearing in the other pictures.

I would say the cobalt dress or vcc skirt outfit. It does depend on what you want to convey. Both of these look modern and well put together.

I really love the big polka dots! Of the ones in your cart I like the first black and white one best...but I don't actually like it more than the polka dots you already have.

It looks like your current dress collection is in a great shape. My original favorite was Loft faux-wrap but it sounds like it is not looking its best. My next two favorites are the cobalt dress and the VC skirt.

Any of your outfits will work (I wore large brown polka dots on white for DS#2 graduation 4-5 years ago!). The tube skirt with the orange top is my fav though. A very happy look for a celebratory occasion.

The big polka dots dress or tube skirt get my vote - they are both so lively and celebratory! Save your money for something you really want

Love the loft wrap dress. Not too sedate at all! No need to buy anything unless you need an excuse! And if you do need an excuse, I think that my suggestion from yesterday was no dressier than these…but maybe you thought it was too sedate (being a kate spade…)? And no, you wouldn't need spanx!

Oh, too many choices. The faux wrap is "very propper." I lean towards the more fun cobalt dress and vince skirt.

I'm with Rachy. The wrap dress is certainly appropriate and looks nice on you. It's a safe choice. And I like the dotted dress a lot too. (I think the first and the striped are a bit too casual but great dresses.)

But my favorites are the skirt and top or the blue dress.

I’m leaning toward the faux wrap or the cobalt dress. I had a feeling that a couple of them might be too casual and you confirmed that for me. Thanks so much again for all of your help. @Parsley: I think you are right. I really like the skirt outfit but might be too fussy for that kind of event especially if it’s hot out.

@Carter: Thanks. Really?! I would never have picked those colors. I interpreted bright as cream--lol!

@Tex: Thanks! The bright colored sandals are pretty comfy but not as comfy as the cream ones. I bought these pre-injury and am still working my way into my older shoes.

@Marmee: I think you are probably right. I think the “KS” triggers a “precious” response to which you know I have an allergy--lol!

I've no idea what's appropriate but your dress collection is enviable! I just tossed a bunch of mine that I wasn't wearing for fit reasons and am anxious to refill. I have to say, that first dress in your cart collection is calling my name. Make that the first three. Could you let me know what they are, pretty please?
