The cognac jacket search goes on: yay or nay

As some of you might remember, I've been looking for a cognac leather jacket since last fall, and after I saw a picture of Ines de la Fressange's daughter (on right in pic #1) in one, it's jumped near the top of my wish list (I also added a pair of crazy-long legs and a French-model pedigree to the list, ha!).

Anyway, I ran across this one recently. It's very soft leather and fits well, I think, but I'm not sure of the color after all. It's definitely cognac, but I'm worried that it's too yellow-based of a shade for me. Pictures #2-4 show the color in varying lights. Picture #5 is a color comparison of the jacket with my chestnut boots.

So, a few questions:
1. Cognac color: yay or nay? Would a warmer/deeper color like that of my boots be better?
2. How about the style of the jacket? I want something classic that I can wear with most everything.
3. Fit? It fits well overall but I want to make sure it's not too long in the waist.

I'd like a jacket that's a 10 and I'm willing to wait for just the right thing, so please be brutally honest. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Yum, cognac and black, my core winter palette. I like the color a lot. Defer to more leather-experienced to address the fit.

I think the jacket length is good for the pants you are wearing. Will you also plan to wear it with dresses and skirts? Would love to see it with any other pairings and also done up on the zip to give an accurate assessment. It is quite a pretty jacket but it is much lower contrast on you than the jacket was on the pic you posted in #1. It looks nice with your skin tone but I do think your coloring might "pop" more with a bit darker/bolder color. You might test that theroy with other clothing items you own though as I am not a super color expert like some of the ladies here....

I like it & think it fits well, but you need to love it. Does it feel comfortable & does it work with lots of other outfits?

This is a neutral color and universally flattering. I like it on you. And the fit looks right, but would be able to better gauge this if you showed the jacket fully zipped.

I just wanted to say Hi honestly! But I do like the jacket a lot. 10, I'm not totally sure. Definitely a 9. The only 'ifs' for me are the slight yellow coloring you mentioned and the banded collar with snaps. Not sure on the longevity there - remember Members Only jackets?

I like it a lot! But would also like to see it zipped and styled in a bunch more ways. I do see Sarah's point about contrast, but this colour seems flattering to you. You actually seem glowing. Love it with the white, too. Would the sleeves need a bit of shortening?

Well this definitely fits your inspiration photo and looks great on you. You might try different shades of cognac in good natural light against your skin to see what shade is best. On my monitor this jacket looks great.
You might think of getting a couple of scarves that you like with the jacket to wear around your neck to protect the jacket collar from skin oils. I think it's a timeless style. It's pretty sleek and doesn't have those shoulder thingies that Members Only jackets had.

I think it fits. I love the style & colour. I think the length is useful but I also have a cropped moto in black. If I had budget for it I would have all of my jackets in 3 different lengths. Will you wear it mostly with jeans? Its a great length for jeans.

Habe you had your colors done? Does this fall into your flattering colours? Nordstrom rack had the Michael Kors jackets Angie posted about in a deeper cognac & they are very similar to this one. I see this as more of a saddle than cognac. Do you look better on warm or cool colours? A cognac more like your boots would suit you better if you look good in cool colours.

It's a nice jacket but I think a darker colour would work better. Have yo checked out thrift shops? The ones I've been to usually have no shortage of cognac leather.

Thanks for all of your thoughts (Hi Malina!). I'm so on the fence about the color and I don't trust my judgment sometimes. I do think a slightly deeper, less yellow color might be better.

Must ponder a bit more.

Seems like a great and flattering color to me, I do love the color of your boots-rich and warm...hmmm can you hold it for awhile and still look around? I found the perfect leather coat for me (which is saying alot because of fit issues) and thought the color was great (dark chocolate brown) but I have the hardest time finding shoes that work with it. I'm still holding out hope, though.

Will the jacket color change over time and wear? Is it likely to get darker? With the color on my monitor, I'm feeling like I would like to see it darker with more red in it or more depth or SOMETHING. And more pics on how it looks with your hair and skin color. I'm feeling like it's a 9 and not a 10 on you but I can't really put my finger on it.
