The Black skirts - keep or return?

I got both skirts in the mail. The flounce I can't return, so it's more for comparison's sake. Also, I wonder if the flounce could be worn in a more professional way or if it's too exaggerated a silhouette for, say job interviews and such. (I do think some of it is from being folded in packing and it will lay better after dry cleaning)
The pencil was the one I was worried about the sizing. I know it's hard to photograph black well, but how does it look? I'm so not a pencil skirt girl so I'll defer to you ladies
The last pics are to show better the details. The bandage mini I think is ponte knit (who knew all this time I had a ponte skirt? lol) I know a pencil and a mini are two different animals, but are they too similar?

I wouldn't wear the flounce for job interviews, funerals, or other more conservative type occasions, and definitely not the mini, so if you are in need of a nice black skirt for more sophisticated events, I'd keep it. It seems to fit you really nicely.

I agree with QM - the flounce can be worn in a professional way, but the very word flounce takes away some of the gravity needed for interviews etc.

I like the pencil, and I think you should keep it over the mini - if you have to choose.

Do you both think the pencil fits? I was worried about it being too small - but that could just be my head playing tricks simply due to the number on the size tag. It does fit at the navel, which is where I'd expected it to.

Yay! It fits, not to small in the waist after all. You definitely need this for a job interview unless you have dress slacks. The mini would be too short and the flounce is just....too....flouncy. In fact, I wouldn't go a centimeter shorter on the pencil skirt if you are interviewing for jobs in a conservative field.

It looks smashing on you, even thought it's not your style. Maybe you can pair it with a top you just love to make it a bit more bearable.

I like the pencil skirt on you - I never tried a pencil skirt until I snagged some Merona skirts from Target a year ago. Like you, mine hit right below my belly button and right above the knee, which is perfect.

I also like the mini and the flounce on you- they are perfect for completely different occasions!

Thanks ladies! Claire, I've been tending bar and waitressing for 20 years, so no worry about the conservative nature of my work lol! Barbara, nice to know I have company in the world of pencil skirt newbies I think I may have had one 22 years ago when I worked for an insurance company at their regional office . . . maybe.

I like the pencil skirt, I think it fits you really well. While I will always love those little flounce skirts, it looks kinda dated... sorry! It is so cute and I want to love it but I think style has moved on...

I think the pencil fits you nicely. It looks like a great length to wear with boots too. I think you'd look great in a slightly longer pencil too--right below the knee. I find slightly longer pencil skirts to be lengthening. Just my 2 cents.

Mo, I think that all of the skirts look nice on you, but I have a preference for the straighter skirts. You are so slim and the straight skirts show off your beautiful figure more. In photo #7, I would keep the top skirt over the bottom one.

I think the pencil skirt fits you really well and I would wear it immediately if I were you!

Er, I have a flounce skirt that I wear to court all the time as part of a suit. *cringing* I don't think they are too dated - Garnet Hill has a couple of "flamenco style" skirts that are similar.

I like them both. The short one is not really my style, but seems very much up your alley!

I think the pencil skirt looks great on you and fits really well...keep! I actually love the flouncy skirt on you too (Where did you get both the skirts again?) but you can take that with a grain of salt since it seems like a lot of people on this board aren't into ruffles and flounces anymore. I like flirty feminine clothes, so it's right up my alley! The mini seems a little short unless you're going clubbing, so I would ditch that one if you have to make a choice. Lovely top, by the way.

I am happy to hear the pencil gets a unanimous thumbs up! Una, I have plenty of flounce and flared or gored skirts and love them all! If I'm dated, I'm happily, blissfully dated I do think the 'flips' are a bit exaggerated, as I mentioned, from being folded for shipping and I hope they lay a little flatter after a trip to the cleaners
