Following up on my cardigan question of the other day.

The draped cardigan I had ordered, I returned. Quite apart from style, it was too tight in the arms to be practical for layering. So I went out into the real world today and tried things on. The V-neck cardigan I linked to was in the store, and actually looked much better in real life than in the catalogue pictures, not frumpy at all. But the fit was off. I always have trouble with anything on the snug side, because my shoulders seem to be too small for the rest of me.

And then I found this one. It's almost more of a jacket than a cardigan. It's a heavy knit, and works really well on a casual level. And it's warm, something I really wanted. Sorry for the crumby pictures, but it's a major challenge photographing black in a mirror at night, at least for someone of my limited abilities. The photos don't do it justice, I don't think. The neck can snap up all the way, but with my short neck I will only be doing that when I'm outside and need the extra warmth.

I am also in a bit of shock, because this is actually a size small. That is a first. Of course, there's a lot more room in smalls than there was 30 years ago, but still...

And yes, those are the cobalt skinnies. I had fun wearing them out today. :o)

What's your verdict? Do you think I will be able to wear this with anything other than jeans?

I think it can go with a lot of things other than jeans. The styling does suggest casual but I think it straddles the line between casual and polished. A nice pair of trousers and a jersey knit tee/blouse would look really nice with this cardigan. I think it has great edge. My first inclination when I look at it is not jeans at all.

Don't sell yourself short! You have shrunk to a size small, and it's really apparent to me because I've been away from the forum. I know how hard you've worked for this, so CONGRATULATIONS! Woot!

That is a cute, sporty sweater. It seems to fit really well and like it would work for your casual lifestyle. Is is washable?

I think you look amazing in this more fitted top. The skinnies look like a fab fit too. I love the outfit - do you have a blue & black or blue & grey scarf to pop around your neck?

Caro, I have so many scarves it is ridiculous. ;o) I left it off to show the details of the sweater. Yup, I've got scarves that combine blue and black and grey. :o)

Thanks for all the kind words, ladies. I did spend more than I wanted to, but I really don't think I am going to shrink into an XS, so the cost per wear will probably justify it. And it fills a wardrobe hole I have been feeling rather badly. Hopefully I will find some fun things to do with it, other than just being warm.

I have also come to the conclusion that, on the whole, I prefer brick and mortar to online shopping. Not that I am going to refuse to order online, but it is so nice to actually try the darn thing on first... I think I'll probably order as a last resort now, which will also help prevent me from spending too much. It's just too easy to click on Add to Cart.

Since your body has changed so much, it probably makes sense to shop at a B&M. I LOVE seeing you in something more body hugging! And yes, you are a small. Get used to it!!!

And the sweater is your reward. It looks like a versatile piece that will get you happily through many a weekend! I have a sweater in a similar style that I love so much I refuse to give it up even though it is pilling to bits.

You are looking fabulous! It's hard work getting healthy, well done:). I like the cardigan a lot! I think it's perfect with jeans but it could work over a skirt too. I like the simplicity of it and I think it will dress up or down for you.

I didn't respond to your previous thread, but I really understand the need to have a black cardi - I am wearing mine as I write and replacing it (it is 4 years old) is one of the few purchases I plan to make in this,my 12 in 12 year.

I like it very much. Having a bit more structure than the typical droopy knit should make it more versatile in your wardrobe. I'd definitely wear it with trousers or skirts. Good pick!

I really like the cardigan. It actually makes it more dressy than casual, but I imagine its still just as comfy. I think you could wear it with jeans like you have here, or use it to dress down a pair of trousers, make them more casual. I think it's a great piece.

I thank everybody for their kind words. :o) I haven't arrived yet, though. 10-12 pounds to go to get down to my wedding weight.

I have to admit, that sweater, or whatever it is, made me very happy. I feel good in it, and I do think its simplicity is going to make it versatile. Your confirmation is very reassuring that I am seeing this properly.
