So I went ahead and met with the traveling tailor. The prices were incredibly reasonable, his samples look great, and he seemed to know what I was talking about. I brought in pictures and my Lanai jacket to show him something that I think fits me well. He took lots of measurements (noting I have broad shoulders for my size - 17"!) and gave me lots of choices on detail. I ended up going with a 30" long 2 button cutaway style in a dark charcoal grey superfine wool fabric with a funky printed lining. Vent in back, no buttons on the sleeves, slightly tapered sleeves so I can push up easily, slash pockets.
He's based in Singapore and gets excellent reviews online. DH got 2 suits and a couple of shirts. We will see how it works out, but nothing was more expensive than off the rack items. As a bonus he's originally from India and was thrilled to talk to me about what it's like living here.
Results will be here in 3 weeks or so - I will be sure to post my pictures and am keeping fingers crossed!
