The BB trench on me.

Honest feedback please. This is a 6P. It fits in the shoulders and I think sizing down would mean I couldn't wear a suit jacket under it. I'm not going to comment at all other than to say the shoulders fit. All aspects of this are up for analysis...

Pic 1 is what I'm wearing underneath - my Theory dress backward (!) and Gidigio boots.

2. Unbuttoned but tied (how I wore my old one most often)
3. Belt tied (too tightly I think)
4. Without belt
5. Buttoned up completely (but not very well, I see!)

I think it looks best without a belt, I like 4. And 5 the best. I do love that coat.

Hmm. I don't love it on you. I think one that flares a little more would suit you better?

So I've fiddled around and discovered a couple of things. The belt is buttoned to the back, so I've unbuttoned it, which lets me tie it in back and create a waistline. The collar also lies flatter and the lapels are pretty malleable, so I can shape it better than I thought. I should post a couple of better pictures but I have to take the dog for a run....

Angie, SERIOUSLY? I know you are always honest so I trust you not to humor me here.

I was 100% convinced it's a fail. I am liking it more as I wear it around the house, but I'm worried that's it's just conservative at my age and not edgy looking at all. I mean, I know it's classic and I love that buttoned up boyish aspect of it but I don't want to be mutton dressed as well, mutton.

I will post some additional pictures as rearranging some of the features and how I button it is making quite a difference. But right now Kona is nudging me because my running shoes are on!

I like it all buttoned up too. Liked it better the more I looked at it. Colour is great on you. Just looks a bit bulky in 2 and 3 and I don't really like it unbelted. But Angie ha spoken!

I am always honest. I love this on you! I don't find it conservative at all. Chic! The colour is stunning with your complexion (high five Nicole D). Your footwear, eyewear and hair add instant edge to the look - NOT that that's a requirement at all. But that might make you feel better!!!

(I do not like it unbelted and buttoned-up, but it will look fab loose and unbelted).

But you have to wear the trench - not me (I'd look gross in that colour!). It has to feel right. xo

If I had this trench, and it looked on me like it looks on you, I would keep it and wear it into the ground.

I would also source a colour block bag with black, white, and the colour of the trench. Or maybe navy, white, and the colour of the trench. I would wear it with my navy dress pants outfits. I would wear it with lady like heels and a dress. I would wear it over black capris and a mariner. I would worry that I would wear it out, and worry about how I could ever replace such a beutiful trench.

I'm liking this on you so much I'm rethinking mine - your hair & boots take it out of the conservative realm imo. What Angie said though - you will be wearing it

Thanks! As soon as I am no longer hot and sweaty, I will post new pix to reflect the tweakage and see if that makes a difference. The more I wear it, the more I like it - but I am not sure if I should keep trying more trenches. I've been looking for 2 years, dang it!

Wow. There is a huge difference between #2 and #5 to my eye. I am not at all crazy about it in #2 - I will say I may be projecting and have major trench phobia. On the other hand, I love it in #5! Thanks Una, I think you will help me get to the bottom of my trench issues with your fab new trench!

I am with Angie. I love the colour on you and think it could work brilliantly. Your hair will not allow anything to look too conservative.

Funny that 5 is a fave because with my short neck and fat face I assumed it would be the worst of the button options on me! Hmmm....

Ooooh, I love it! I like it all ways, actually. Belted it reminds me of Allsaints, and unbelted it has a very interesting boxy/modern/cocoonish quality. The color is stunning! Want to see your tweaks with the collar etc.

I love it -- love the colour, love the style, not too conservative at all -- but I'd lose the belt. Or tie the belt at the back. It looks fab in pics 4 and 5, unbelted.

I've never figured out a way to wear a belted trench either. And I'm little, like you, and not a dissimilar shape.

Rae, thanks! I was hoping to look more long and slender like you and Claire do (we're not that far apart in size, though you're taller and less shoulder-y)... Off to take some new pictures!

BTW, my husband's comment was that I looked like I was going to flash someone. He was still grumpy about UPS.

My initial reaction is that it looks elegant on you, and the color is gorgeous with your complexion and hair. I think I like it best belted, and I like your rakish way of wearing it open and belted.
Before I read further comments, I wondered if you were hesitating about the light color, because maybe most of your work clothes are darker, or maybe it's easier to keep a dark coat clean-looking through lots of wear.
But I do like it a lot. I lean toward Runcarla's thoughts: I'd wear it a lot. As to edginess, I like the look of a super sleek piece along with edgier ones, like this coat with the boots you have on.

I agree- 5 looks great! I have similar issues with trenches since I don't have a well-defined waist, so they do require a little tweaking to look their best. I think you've got it, though!
I vote keep! And I'm so jealous of how well you wear that color!

It's funny, when I read the title of your post I thought, Una? BB Trench? I expected it to look too conservative but to me it looks kind of ..... forgive me here.....sexy. A little bit Bond Girl, maybe, but in a really good way, not a tench-coat-flasher way, lol!

This color, which is SSB on many of us, works beautifully with your skin tone and the contrast of your hair.

Not flash someone...show up at the local hotel's bar for an assignation! (Forewarning DH to meet you, that is!). That will certainly change DH's perception of the trench!

Hmmm. Maybe I'm hesitating because of my husband's comments (he also said it looked too conservative for me)... I am glad the color works - it's not truly beige, as Claire so aptly described in her post. That is a lesson learned!

I like #5 - it's very James bond!

Not sure I like it in the unbuttoned + belted incarnation though - it seems a bit sloppy. What does it look like totally open? Because I feel like I often just throw on my trenches to quickly go outside and don't bother to close them at all...

I think this looks great on you and you're totally making me wish I could wear any sort of beige shade. The colour is magnificent on you.

Love the fit and I really like it buttoned all the way up. As others have pointed out, your edgy hair and footwear will make sure this classic jacket never becomes conservative on you.
