Jenni--these memes are not really about making fun of men or picking on them, unless you consider talking about women's issues as something people shouldn't do.
They are designed to point out double standards for men and women, by taking statements commonly said to women, or about women, and flipping them to show how ridiculous the expectations or prejudices are. So if a man says he enjoys "womanning the phones at work" in one of these...if it makes him look foolish, it's because we expect the same of women.
That's great that you and your husband do everything 50/50. There are still way more women than men that take up the bulk of child-rearing, housework, etc., even when working the same amount as their partners.
A lot of people seem to not find these funny, and I'm surprised. I think they are based on statements men actually make. If people find it off-putting that these things are said about men....perhaps they should also find it off-putting that they are said to women?
It was funny when Jack Lemmon donned a wig in Some Like it Hot and gave beauty advice to young women...I think it should also be funny for a female scientist to say she likes to have men as "helpers" in the lab. We are not actually turning them into helpers. That's the important thing I think people miss. This is not: "make the men into little helpers!" Just pointing out how much BS gets said/expected of women.
