I really really like it, but I guess I just mentally can't cross that threshold of pricing - I think that says a lot more about me than your coat, though! If you can justify the price I think it's great on you.
Are you joining me in a coat induced SYC then?

I know, Mo - it's insane. I guess it's what people mean by "investment piece". If I wasn't getting a free handout from the state for living in a cold miserable place, I wouldn't even be considering it. But let's say I wear it a hundred days of the year - that's $8 CPW, right? And it's likely I will wear it that much.

Totally honest feedback here - this coat may not scream Burberry, but it screams UNA!!! I adore it on you - in every incarnation (half coat, full coat, skirt - tee hee). The fit is fantastic and like you, I kind of like the bit of bell shape on the bottom. I love the versatility of wearing it as a cropped coat or as a full coat - opens up more style options. The weight sounds like you can get a lot of wear out of the coat other than on your coldest days - that's a bonus.

The sleeves look ok cuffed from what I can tell but for the price of the coat and the make, I would spend the money to have the sleeves professionally shortened and make it perfect.

The question is - do you love it? How do you feel in it? I say keep if you love it.

Awesome colour on you! To be honest - the horizontal line created by the zipper bugs me - I think at this price point I would have to be head over heels in love to seal the deal.

Well, I LOVE it and wish I could afford one myself. It looks great on you, especially closed and in profile. I love the little cropped jacket, too. Very practical coat.

Shannon, I adore it. I LOVE the zipper and feel like that's what makes this coat feel like me. That's obviously a question of taste (hopefully not bad in my case!).

I feel like it may be a sin to alter a coat like this. Maybe I'll post sleeve photos.

I love it on you, but I personally would not buy a garment that expensive if I had to fold the sleeves back. I would take it to the tailor and either pay whatever it took to get them altered to fit, or pass.

That said, I do love it on you! It is SO "Una!"

ETA: We were posting at the same time. I feel like it would be a sin to wear it and NOT get it altered to fit perfectly!

I see it differently Una - I think it's a sin to NOT alter the sleeves. You want it to look perfect.

Wow, I knew I would love it! Look at how it hits at the perfect cropped length in the short form - and the bootay it creates from the size in the long form... I actually dig the horizontal zip, too. Maybe it's a Short Legged Girl Thing, but I love how it will keep that leg line high without any effort.

Also, I think the way the cuffs are turned back is fine - kind of like a popped collar, but for sleeves.

It's flipping delicious. And there's a beautiful symmetry in using the oil money to pay for it.

If you like the sleeves long, I think they're fine (preferences vary). But if you'd flip them back all the time because they bug you, then get it altered.

I didn't realize it was a two-in-one jacket! Very clever. And, being me, my favorite part is the "skirt."

Since the coat costs what it does, I think you should get the sleeves altered too. It will no doubt somehow conspire to knock the coat over a thousand - but in for a penny, in for a pound!

I like it Una! But I don't think it's a KILLER coat. I feel awful for being a downer because it sounds like you love it, and so does everyone else :(.

I find the horizontal zip line a little jarring - from the website photo too. I like the cropped version a lot better. It can't be all that warm - I would be surprised if you could wear it in 30 degrees actually. The sleeve length could be altered - so that's not a train smash.

The quality is sublime - I know. It's Burberry! I also 100% encourage investment purchases of this nature if you have the means. The vibe does scream "UNA!", but the lines just don't work in a brillinat way to my eye. Of course, that's also a very subjective opinion.

FWIW, this is my feedback. Once again, I apologize for being a wet noodle. I could have stayed off this thread, and who knows! You could have had love from everyone else about this coat. But I felt I had to say my bit for a thousand buck purchase.

Angie, no worries - I need all feedback for a coat like this! I guess the issue for me with the zipper is whether it's a question of personal preference or if it's truly unflattering? I can see that they could have put a little flap to cover the zipper, so obviously it was meant to be seen.

To me, the zipper is exactly what appealed. I feel it adds that bit of edge and definition that I crave. But I don't want to look jarring or seem tasteless!

It is pretty warm. Obviously it's not a puffer or real gear, but it's better than I expected. The temps here are very different than other places - 20 degrees here feels like 0 in Boston, because it's so dry in the winter. I'm often colder in New York city than here at home.

Your original thread was while I was on vacation so I didn't comment on it, but I feel strongly that it's better to have a just a few items that are truly fabulous than a closet-full of mediocre things.

I LOVE this coat on you, Una! And obviously YOU love it, which is the most important thing. Even though it's not a winter coat, it seems like you will be able to get a lot of use from it during all the other seasons.

I think the sleeves are too long, and it will be worth it to pay to have them shortened so that they're just right. This coat deserves to be perfect in every way.

Please keep it, and ENJOY! You do look fabulous!

ETA: I think the zipper is part of what makes it so YOU. It wouldn't be for everybody, but I think it goes perfectly with your style.

I totally get that the zipper is what attracted you to the coat in the first place. I LIKE the coat! Unflattering is too strong of a word. I just don't think it's a killer coat. And I am the only one who thinks so - and very much in the minority. You have to go with what YOU feel is best

I just covered the zipper with my finger on the screen and I have to say, it changes the coat from "total lust" to "gorgeous but not worth my PFD money". What does that mean?

This is what I do when I fork out the big bucks for stuff and have the luxury of returning it:

Keep the coat for a few days and try it on several times during this period. See how you feel about things after that exercise. You have to sleep on it for a while. Things are usually a lot clearer after that.

KIDDING. You are totally right. It is a huge purchase for me. I am chafing to wear it out the door, but I will hold off. I actually have the option of flying it down to CA for some real-life YLF opinions and returning it there at the store too.

Umm, now that Angie has said her piece, I feel a little bit better about whispering that I'm not really in love with it either. I have no issue with the zipper. When I look at pictures 8 and 9, I'm not in love with the way the skirt bells out or the fit from the back. I know that you normally don't care about figure flattery or trying to achieve an hourglass look. But whenever you wear waist surrendering looks, you always go for items with interesting architecture. I quite like the top half of the coat worn by itself. But I really don't like the lower part - the horizontal lines going across the trapezoidal skirt make it look like any ordinary puffer to me, visually. If it just had better quilting details/architecture on the bottom half, I'd like it better.

Sorry, I didn't want to rain on the parade.

Ditto what Sylvie said. Sorry, AG! I love it except for the weird butt billow. And to be honest, I just don't know where you'd wear that top cropped part. It looks like it forgot its other half.

I like the coat, but I am not totally sold on it, given the price point. The zipper is definitely polarizing and perhaps too trendy. I would not want to go trendy on an investment piece, at this "up there" price point. Will you bore of the zipper down the line?

My other issue is that the flaps seem to be laying funny at the bottom, see picture #7, it could be the photo, but they are not perfectly aligned. The puff makes them rise up, ah, not as sharp as they could be. I also wished they had gone either full force with the diamond shaped quilting or just gone with the horizontal seaming. I find the diamond shaped quilting a bit ALGO given the zipper, buttons, and seaming.

I think Burberry would offer free alterations, so the sleeve is definitely not a deal breaker to me.

Had this been a $100 coat, I'll be all over it. I think it is a fun coat to have, and it totally jives with your style. I just expect a certain level of "perfection" at this price point, but if you love it, keep it. God knows than when I fall hard for something, I just do what I want.

Una, your comment "I can see myself wearing this coat every single day for the rest of my life, as long as I stay the same size " says so much. It's clearly LAFW (love at first wearing) and I know that feeling. In a similar situation (though not nearly as pricey) the utility jacket I LAFW yesterday, felt a little long on me later in the day. I decided to order a petite to see if that might help. But the point is sometimes we fall for an item at first, and then second guess it later - with such a high price tag you want to be SURE it's the real thing.
