Hi all! Yes, I am one of 'them' coming back for some advice. I spied a listing for TJ Maxx in town just this morning. It's 2 weeks old, but still up online, so I assume it is still an available position. I was thinking of switching gears in the job market but did not expect one of the few clothing stores to have an opening. I haven't done retail clothing since I was 17!
First, today was snowing and barely over freezing real feel all day, so I'm not going out. But tomorrow should be in the 40's with no snow. (yeah, what a difference a move makes, right?).
I was thinking of wearing these pieces together. Truth be told, I've been wanting to duplicate this inspiration look for months now but had no opportunity! I find that funny, as I shy away from copycats in general.
Is this the right note for the job at hand, #1, and is it too out of season looking, #2, (44 high) to be taken seriously?
And just a general hello to everyone, with a big cyber hug. I'm finding my footing after the move and it's good. I sense a change. Guess that's midlife, huh?

I love the outfit..but will leave it to others to give advice about the situation. I would think it would be great but I am not up with the play for this type of interview.

This would be to introduce myself and fill in/drop off an application. I think my worry is a lightweight white jacket in snow in November. Faux pas? I'll certainly be dressy enough. Mountain towns are funny that way.

The outfit looks terrific. Would this be an actual interview or just a "putting an application" on file or scouting trip. For the latter, this outfit looks fantastic to me!

I don't think a white jacket in snow is a faux pas at all - but a little Summery in the lightweight cotton. May I suggest another jacket. Glad you're finding your footing.

It's a drapey rayon blend but definitely lightweight. That's my concern for sure

I like the outfit, but if it were me, I'd sub the tshirt for a shirt or blouse or more substantial piece of knitwear. Love the t, but it reads a little too casual for meeting a manager and dropping off a resume. And , nice to see you back:)

Thanks for the input, and hellos! I will think on a different jacket. Lisa, believe me when I say South Lake Tahoe does not think a cashmere blend tee is too casual. Really. I've been mistaken for a lawyer at the courthouse before. We all know I don't dress like what most people think a lawyer looks like. It's all about dressing to your environment, no?

I love the style of the jacket and think a white jacket would help you stand out from other applicants in a positive, fashion forward way. Can you find a similar style in a heavier weight?

I was just thinking yesterday about some of the inspiring threads you've started on budget, prioritizing, etc. I have spent almost my entire 2014 clothing budget and will be shopping my closet for the next couple months...

Great idea, to apply at TJ Maxx! My local TJ is the nicest store in the county. I popped back in after several months away, they had remodeled and the store looked much more upscale including the dressing rooms. I get the impression the company is doing well, and being well-managed, which is always important.

Did you go in or are you waiting until the snow melts?

I've missed you on the forum. I'm not sure if you saw, but I put your blog in Inge's weekly link love post.

It is a great outfit. I know nothing about life in Tahoe but the jacket does seem a bit out of season. I would think a detail like that would matter in the retail world. Good luck.

Hi again!! Denise, our TJ is only 2 years old, if that. It is also very nice, if not as large or fully stocked as others I've shopped.
I was told to expect phone calls yesterday afternoon to schedule interviews Tuesday. Got no call
So I called this morning and spoke to the gentleman I gave my app to. They'd gotten crazy and hadn't had time to call anyone. He scheduled me right then and there for 1:20 tomorrow
It was pretty brisk so I chose a dark teal velvet/corduroy blazer over white drapey tee and the black pants and booties.
It will be up to 58 tomorrow so I may go with the white Zara blazer after all. Real Feel of 64.
If not, I could do maybe my Columnist zig zag trousers and bright berry button front tucked with Harajuku shooties??

Have you gone in yet at all? What do people who work there wear?

I think the Miranda Kerr is a great outfit and would look very smart with a puffer over it. Maybe too much personality, tho.

I like to dress "blank slate" for interviews, along the lines of stage dressing a home for sale. I like #3 a lot, for that reason. However, I don't know that you'd wear a suit to work at TJ's,
unless you went to the regional level. Yet I like the jacket with the
pants. I'm not sure about the pants alone... Maybe that would call for a sweater not a blouse. Or better yet, a knit top.

I guess ultimately I believe in dressing like you'd dress on the job, only neater and plainer. You want to show you understand where you're going to work and what you'd be doing. So no heels. Also, when you work at TJ's, you're not putting on a fashion show.

This is what I ended up in after all. I felt good. Better than the white. Fingers crossed.
Little jewelry - small grey pearl earrings and Gucci wrap around watch.
