THAT Missoni tunic/dress: keep or return?

My husband actually LIKED this. Not that I would wear it with nekkid legs. The neckline is high, as others have noted; however, pinning my hair up seems to help with that. Bonus photo of my phony Missoni cheapo Penney's dress!

ETA: I think this is the same dress that was voted too little girl/high neckline on Christina... like her, I'm also a mid-40s W(orking)MOTG. Inappropriate? Unflattering? Feel free to be brutal with me.

Elly, thanks but aside from YLF, no one in my life, including my husband, has ever said anything nice about my legs. That's why I love all of you.

Re the dress, in all honesty, I prefer the faux Missoni in both cut and color. The shape of the Target Missoni is boxy and the neckline looks uncomfortably high.Your style is edgier and more sophisticated with a great slash of humor. However, I do love those yellow shoes.

I love the color of the dress and the pattern - and I think with your hair pulled back that that helps with the high neckline. Those shoes are FAB with it - and you have great legs! The shape is boxy - but it's purposely boxy - my guess is that the desgners intended for it to be that way. I think that with your edgy, RATE style that you can easily pull this off as a fun, colorful (and the colors are beautiful with your skin-tone!) outfit! Me likey!

If the dress had not been so short - and if I could have FOUND it, I would have bought this dress too. I just love the colors!

I like it. Yes, it's a high neck but as you said, with your hair up/back it looks good. I think something cropped over top will give it more shape if you want that but Marley makes a good point about the boxy shape.

And how wonderfully mod will it look with your new boots and tights! Keeeeeeep.

edit: if you want to draw the eye down, maybe a long lariat necklace would work. Might help elongate the neckline... maybe?

Una, firstly, I LOVE #3. That dress is stunning and is so flattering on you. I do love black and white! The first dress is very nice. The colours are gorgeous, however I am not sure of the cut. Yes it is probably boxy by design, however I think it's a question of is that the look you want. You have a beautiful figure and this dress really hides it. Some dresses with a surrendered waist flow in such a way that there is still a hint of shape, however this one doesn't do that. Probably not helping here, but Im not sure.

I much prefer the dress you already have. I like the colors of the first one and they look great with the yellow shoes, but I don't like the cut. I think it's just a little bit too boxy and the neckline isn't as flattering. I say return.

3 is just perfect!
2 is not bad, but not very flattering on the neckline, it makes your neck short. The problem is not your legs! Lovely legs!

I was actually looking for this dress everywhere. It is sold out ( as everything else) and going for astronomical sums on ebay. I, for one, would gladly take it off your hands.

I think this dress looks fab on you!! It has a swingy, mod vibe, which is just what they were going for, I'm guessing. Agree that a long pendant would rock. How cute would this be paired with some denim or white clams and those yellow sandals in the late spring/early summer? For now, you can easily pair it with dark denim leans and pop a jacket over it, with some tall boots. Belting it might be fun, for a different look...you could try layering underneath it (I would automatically say turtleneck but I believe you hate those?). Love you in these blues; you wear bright color so well. I don't care for the older dress: it looks a bit dated and doesn't seem to suit your style, IMHO.

I prefer the one you already have, but the Target one has potential, too. Could you wear it with a jacket over the top? Alone, I think it widens the shoulders as well as the waist a bit too much - horizontal lines *and* high neck *and* cap sleeves... my feeble brain needs to see it styled.

I LOVE those colors on you, and I LOVE the yellow shoes, but I don't think the shape of the dress really works. Would you have been interested in it if it weren't Missoni? It reminds me of a longer Charlie Brown shirt. Maybe it could be a casual weekend look since your hubby likes it?

Oh, hey, how about cutting it off and making it into a mini-skirt???

I love the colors and pattern on you, but I'm wanting to take my scizzors and cut a v-neck or chop off the sleeves. I think it's a bit too top heavy.
I'd like to see it with both of your arms to your side ~not that we walk around that way,but with both arms on your hips I don't think we're getting the best picture of the proportions. You've added a waist and broken up the boxiness of the top half with that pose.

I'm a minority here but I like it, in fact my eyes got glued on photo #2 because you look amazing.
Maybe with the comings and goings of a MOTG it would not be very appropriate to wear like this because it would ride up all the time.
But.... I can see it with skinny jeans and a fabulous colorful scarf with an Angie knot to elongate the neckline , or with a shirt dress underneath(even a long sleeved one.

Honestly, I love the colors of the target Missoni against your skin. Also, I think putting your hair up makes a LOT of difference. I voted yay on Christina's post. But, with your IT body shape combined with your amazing RATE style I think you can make this work 100%. A long mod pendant necklace will work to elongate the neckline should you want to let your hair down

I like your third dress much better than the first one. Although I think that you could show some leg even though you're past 40 (you have indeed wonderful legs), I think the dress would need a deeper neckline to elongate the look a bit.

OK, so as you've styled them here (with minimal accessories) I much prefer the black and white fake Missoni. I love the sleeves and the neckline and the pattern, and I think it stands on its own as a statement piece.

The Target dress, on the other hand, is badly wanting some accessories to go with it. The pattern and color are gorgeous, but the shape and the high neckline are not as flattering as the other dress. A long pendant necklace, as others have suggested, might help a lot. I also would love to see this with your All Saints leather moto!

I agree that it would also work with jeggings or skinnies + boots, but I have to say that your legs look AMAZING here, so I don't really want you to cover them up with pants!

It is indeed boxy, but intentionally so. I liken this to my mod print shift dress - it's meant to give a certain vibe more than flatter one's figure necessarily, you know? I love it on you, and with those shoes it's a winner! If the neckline bugs you, perhaps a well placed scarf?
(FWIW I like this better than the fake Missoni - it has more character)

I like this dress better on you than I liked it on me when I tried in on in the store! (I didn't buy it.) I agree that the colors are gorgeous on you (and in general) but I do think that the dress could be better in terms of its shape. I also feel that something about the pattern adds width to the body - which you are pulling off really admirably, so it is cute and fun looking. I just think something about the stripes combined with the cut of the dress makes this difficult to wear. I feel on the fence about it. I would say consider the cost of the dress and how much you'll wear it and enjoy it and decide if you love it enough to keep.

Wow, this is a perfectly split vote unless my count is off (10 to 10)! Here's my take: I don't care so much about the brand as the pattern - I adore the Missoni chevron pattern, as a child of the 70s. That's why I hunted down the black and white dress, as well as snagging the genuine sweater-coat off e-ebay. And I am in love with these colors.

I totally agree about wanting to chop in a v-neck and that this is somewhere in the no-man's-land between waist surrender and mod.

I"m going to see if anyone tips the vote and hang onto it for now. Zap, if I don't keep it, I will let you know! The e-bay thing is still making me so mad - I woke up this morning composing an angry essay about it in my head. When I think of these crazy resellers stampeding into the store to snatch everything up, then rush home to post it on e-bay at inflated prices THE SAME DAY, it galls me beyond belief.

Una, I love the colors, but not the neckline- how about a long solid colored soft knit scarf around the neck and draped down to give you a vertical line?

I love the colors on you, and I do think that you could make it work. I have to be honest, though, I like the fake Missoni better. I know that the blue dress is supposed to be boxy, but maybe it's too stiff, or something, for it to work for my eye. Of course, it might also be the case that it has more swing and drape that's not being captured on film.

The colors in the Missoni are KILLING me. I think you and your style can totally mesh with that dress, high neckline and all. I agree with a previous poster - I'd like to see a loooong necklace with the blue dress to break up the high neckline a bit. The dress in number 3 is flattering and nice and conventional, but I think the blue dress has way more potential to be edgy, RATE, and Una-worthy. You'd just have to work for it.
