I inherited my math ability, map reading skills, and organizational skills from my mother. I'll always be grateful for her teaching me to knit, sew and cook.

JAIleen - ha ha, my mom is great at sewing and quilting, but these did not get passed on (my failure, not hers). However, I did get the "baking gene" that I believe I've successfully passed on to DD.

Everyone tells me that I look a lot like my grandfathers mother. So I guess that's why I can't name an inherited physical attribute. But I would have loved to have her great legs.

Favorite physical attribute I inherited from my mother: my narrow frame. And now that I have bathed her many times, I have a pretty good sense for exactly how my body will look at 90.

Favorite characteristic I inherited: a deeply ingrained work ethic. Although my mother only went to school until she was about 15, she is one of the most accomplished women I know. She taught ESL and Great Books seminars, was a master gardener and chef, and volunteered in her church community until she could no longer take care of herself. I should also note that she is an abuse survivor. I remain in awe of this woman.

I can't hold a candle to my mother on:
- style. I don't know how she does it, but she manages to look perfect at all times. This trait extends to home decor as well. I think it is that she is extremely confident in who she is and what she likes.

Physical trait - coordination, strength, athletic ability, and facial features.
Character trait - I could never live up to her integrity, pride(although that's a debatable positive) , honesty, organizational skills and loyalty .And that generational sense of "suck it up and get on with it".

Wow this one is tough for me as I'm in a weird place with my mom these days ...

Physical trait - not sure I look a whole lot like my mom ... maybe small feet and hands.

Character trait - toughness and empathy - but I don't hold a candle to her integrity (she is ALWAYS true to herself and honest)

Physical traits: Boobs but unfortunately not her lovely legs. And, what's turned out to be a blessing - oily skin! No wrinkles!

Character traits: Work ethic, stiff upper lip - no freaking out allowed (usually), Jewish heritage/tradition. Though not her extroversion. I am introvert like Dad. Also not anywhere near as good at housekeeping.

Love this ... I appreciate more all the time howuch my mother made me who I am; reading all your wonderful a comments only reinforces this! Physical trait for me - long legs, character trait, compassion (I wish I could live up to her on either of these). Can I be cheeky and add, fave fashion tip from my mom - you can never go wrong in navy blue. She is the navy blue queen of the universe and I follow her footsteps more every season!

This is such a sweet thread!

I inherited my mother's facial features - bone structure, freckles, cleft chin, thin lips, (but not eyes, and we are opposite body types). We are also very opposite in personality, but I do believe that she has influenced my character - we share a stubbornness for getting the job done no matter how many heavy objects (literally and figuratively) must be moved to do so, and a fierce love for God and family. She is the one, above all, who influenced my dream to be a mother. It was the only thing that I knew I wanted to be when I grew up, and I think that it was because my mom made it seem that mothering was so wonderful (which it is, but there were some hidden little surprises that I didn't see coming).

My mother had beautiful hands and I have inherited those. It is nice to see echoes of my Mum in myself and my sisters.

My mother was optimistic and had a sense of adventure. That willingness to try new things influenced me very much.

My mom and I are build quite differently, but I often look in the mirror and realize how similar we look in the fact (current hair cut especially!).

We are also dissimilar in personality (I'm much more like my dad), but I inherited a love of plants and good food from my mom. She is also one of my best friends.

Great thread.

For me no physical traits that I can think of - I take after my father.

But personality wise, I think I do take after my mum, who taught me patience, perseverance and loyalty. And we both love shopping. (I can say that here!)

I must also mention my mum's mum, who was very involved in my upbringing and a huge influence on me. She was ahead of her time and taught me a lot about being independent, fair and kind. I miss her all the time.
