Temptations and needs NAS sale

I got my NAS access for the online site and looked over all of the beautiful clothing. Great Stuff!

I chose about 12 things to put in my favorites.
After looking over the list I realized that none of the items were necessary for my needs. Some would be fun but most are duplicates of things that I have that are similar.

I narrowed down my list to about 2 or three things that are still questionable as substantial additions to my wardrobe. It is so easy to get caught up in sale envy and "I'll never see another like it"" mentality.

I must remember that I only want things that are perfect for my lifestyle. I have enough smart casual and dressy things for quite a while. I must remember that extraordinary is the only exception
I am saving for a pair of Fluevg boots and they will be a substantial part of my fall, winter budget. I always wear boots in the winter and am looking for some with a small heel that are 8 hour boots. I must resist some items that I may otherwise jump on.
I love silk blouses but will I wear them often? Those are questions I need to answer honestly.

Does anyone else feel pressure just because of all the hype?

Goodness, yes! I don't even have access yet (not a cardholder) and I'm already feeling slightly anxious. Silly! Wish I could identify my wardrobe holes first and go in with blinders on, only looking for those items...that would save me a lot of (return) grief, I'm sure.

Good for you for resisting temptation (so far).

Heh heh, I have a LOT more than 12 items on my NAS wishlist. Honestly, none of them are needs in the sense I have plenty of clothing to cover up and avoid naked dashes in public. There are a lot fewer items I'm interested in this year to fill wardrobe holes than last year though, when I was at the start of a big wardrobe overhaul. I recall Angie saying she got maybe 4 or 5 things during NAS last year. I think you, Jean, and Angie are at similar points, with fully defined styles and well thought-out closets. You're right though, the temptation is there, especially if NAS offerings are your dominant season.

I found I got tons of wear from some of last year's NAS blouses/tunics and find myself constantly wishing I had more of those, so I have several in mind I want to try at this year's NAS. I am still looking for a cropped leather jacket, black or gray dress pants, straight leg or skinny jeans, so I have several options for each of those categories to look at. I'm hoping out of, say, four leather jackets, one will be the right one for me.

I would love to find the right pair of cognac riding boots, which NAS doesn't have, but I'm still tempted by two other pairs of boots. Neither are quite duplicates of what I have already but I am telling myself to wait until Mr. Perfect Cognac Riding Boot shows up.

A lengthy way of saying, I understand how you feel!

As a huge impulse shopper I'm a tad nervous about NAS. I've already created a list and it's rather small. It's going to be hard to stick to the list. So I am allowing myself two non-list purchases, one clothing and one accessory so I don't feel too restricted. We shall see how this plan goes. (I'm not a card holder so I haven't seen any of the choices yet.)

I have 14 things on my favourites list and as I said on the other thread, I need to rob a bank. I might just blow my entire budget on one thing.

There will be lots of time to navigate the sale. It's overwhelming at best! You have to keep on browsing through so as to not miss things. Not to worry. I will guide you wear I can. And keep you focused!

Jean, I especially thought of you when looking through the NAS goodies. There are several fab things in your colors. I'm with you. Lots of "I want" and very little "I need". In fact the "I need" group isn't very exciting...like shapewear! I'm also hoping for a pair of fabulous boots and was excited to see several marked "narrow calf".
I'd love the Halogen seamed pencil skirt in every color but don't have an opportunity to even wear the ones I have that much. Colored jeans (which I didn't see) would be a better choice. Lifestyle reality can be tough to face.

Yes, yes and yes on getting caught up in the hype!

It works better for me not to get to involved in the wishlists and pre-sale I wants. At this point I let everyone else find the goods and actually start looking once the sale starts. If I miss something so be it, its not the end of the world. Its easier for me to take that attitude though because the plus size clothes tend not to sell out and none of the boots will fit my calves.

I don't have an online access code so I'm just looking at the catalog I got in the mail yesterday, but it looks fab! I'm definitely going to get the seamed pencil skirt in that fab purpley magenta. And maybe the yellow "golden raisin" or whatever.

Very much so! I'm actually considering going on a shopping ban, but I'm waiting to see what will be at NAS because I don't want to declare a ban and then immediately break it if I find something at NAS. But the reality is that there's nothing I truly need and I have bigger priorities, as tempting and fun as clothes they may be.

Yes. I am also feeling that this an opportunity not to be missed. It really is my first, fully aware one since I have been on YLF.

So HOW do you determine what to do ? Do you approach it with an idea of ugrading a piece or filling holes ( like Sparky ) ? I also feel that I have no holes right now and may even be bordering on too big a wardrobe for myself.

Should there even be an approach, or do I shrug my shoulders and say not for me ?

I'm more intrigued by the "newness" of the items than by the sale prices, but I am definitely planning to check things out when they become available to the general public (I don't have an access code or account).

Jean, the phrase "I'll never see another like it" really resonated with me. I sometimes say this to myself as justification to buy something. It definitely takes a certain zen-like fortitude to hold that impulse in check!

Like you, I'm trying to focus my purchases on things I really need, or that are truly unique or extraordinary.

Jean, I think you were reading my mind. Was just having this very discussion with myself looking through the catalog that arrived today. I have marked a few items that I'd like to see in person, but like you I will be quite selective. There is a pricey bag I have had my eye on elsewhere, and a fab leather jacket in the catalog that, together, could be the extent of my summer splurge. I'm setting the bar high, and will be ruthless about anything that does not fully measure up.

I will definitely be picking up some pencil skirts - and perhaps some shoes, but I don't see much else besides shoes and boots for the kids. Darn.

I like the merino wool cardigan that comes in the same new colors as the Halogen seamed skirt.

And there are some accessories I am liking, too!

Jean, how does one obtain an access code? I am a level 2 MOD card holder, so I'd assume I should probably have one - hopefully!

I'm now totally checked out of the hype. I just went through the catalog and there isn't a single thing from Encore so I can't get caught up. I just have to do it the old fashioned way and see it in the store.

Kari, call the phone # on the back of your MOD card and they should be able to give you an access code and the access website.
