Mine is from my engagement photo shoot! I am in a halter top on a rooftop in Seattle in April, it is freezing out and starting to rain - I suffered through : )

Interesting responses thus far!

I don't like taking pictures in general -- very camera shy. I used the icon I use often on the internet of Rosie the Riveter, who was a 1940s wartime icon that promoted women's participation in the war effort. I'm not a pro-war person, more of a pacifist really, but I do like what she symbolizes with women's independence and patriotic values. I have had a few people tell me I look like her too, and my nickname is Rosie, so it's a good fit.

The photo is from my early career as a fashion/costume designer. I made lovely crepe paper dresses glued together and these crown/tiaras. Maybe we were princesses. If my memory is right, the body of the dress was turquoise--maybe the sleeves were pink. Sh-sh-sh--my little Sis doesn't know she's in it too. I must have been around 8. I'm going to change it to an even earlier fashionista photo when I get around to it.

There isn't much of a story. This one of hundreds of Lucie pictures in my Lucie folder. It just lent itself well to being a small icon.

When we travel, I am usually the one taking the pictures, so getting a shot with just me is rare. This one filled all of my requirements for a profile pic - I am wearing sunglasses, my hair looks decent, and there's a camel!

How cute! These stories were so fun to read.

Julie, I love your new very Mia Farrow pic!

My profile pic is a year old and I should change it :(. But it's when I cut a fringe after having a long sweep for a while.

Mine is my dog Tiger Lily. She's a Shepard mix of some sort I rescued a few years ago. This picture captures her personality perfectly! I had one of my face, but haven't decided if I really want my face out there or not just yet.

Angie bugged me to put up a pic. I don't feel that I'm very photogenic and don't like putting lots of pictures of me online. It's a purple studded cuff by Eddie Borgo that I got at Holt Renfrew in Vancouver, Canada.

When I was choosing a profile picture, many members had used photos of their pets. Mine is of our dearly loved little clown of a dog that I usually call Maggs. She's an 18 month old PONS (Polish lowland sheep dog)

I luv color and print so a thumbnail of one of my skirts seemed appropriate. Like others have mentioned, it also makes it easy to spot my posts.

Thanks for sharing!

I think mine is pretty self explanatory- it's a bowl of yarn (which would make for really chewy spaghetti- which was the name of my hand dyed yarn company) I had used this photo for business stuff at one point.

Like many others, I am not good about having my picture taken and rarely like photos of myself. I just recently updated my profile pic to a photo that was actually taken not long ago, as opposed to my previous profile picture, which is now several years old and didn't reflect my current looks.

So I am on the "this is the only photo of my face I am not embarrassed of" train.

Interesting thread! My profile pic is a "self-portrait" taken whilst on holidays in Port Douglas last year. I bought the hat for $2 at a Chinese discount store. For some reason I really love it!!!

When I joined the forum I could never have imagined that I'd be posting photos of myself, face and all! LOL So my photo is baby MaryK on my parents' bed a very very VERY long time ago! I still remember the gray/blue chintz bedspread with pink cabbage roses...

Mine is cropped from an image of a painting. It is not aesthetically pleasing but I like it and it makes it very easy to pick out my comments.

Mine is a detail from a bank note vignette from Bibliodyssey--a site I often get mesmerized by http://bibliodyssey.blogspot.c.....ettes.html
I like her.

So many thoughtful responses, thank you so much for sharing!

So fun to find out all these stories behind the photos. My profile pic was taken at my sister's wedding last summer. I have very few pictures of myself, even fewer that can be cropped to show just me, and very few indeed which aren't humiliatingly awful, so this is a rare one!
