Tell me I did the right thing...

I am in the midst of a shopping ban right now, but today I caved. I have been looking for what seems like an eternity for high-rise skinny jeans to tuck into boots and wear with tunics. I was aching for these, which fit just like my perfectly-fitting straight jeans but with a skinny leg opening:

But at the time, they only came in a 24 and 25 and I wasn't sure about the whiskering. Today when I saw them in a 27, and recalled that I also had a 10% off coupon, I pounced. After Angie informed me that I tend towards an apple ::big frowny face::, I figured a little whiskering around my hips might not be as horrible as I once thought. Might take some attention away from my ever expanding tummy Anyway, the whiskering won't show with tunics so at least that won't be a problem. Now, immediately after placing the order, I am feeling some buyer's remorse. I haven't been tempted by anything since going on the ban, and haven't even gone to any shopping websites, but I just couldn't stop thinking about these. I feel like that means it was meant to be (and the coupon just seals the deal).

...right?

I thought you specifically said when you started the ban that you would make an exception for some high waisted skinnies!?

I tend to agree that there are certain items, when missing from the wardrobe, just throw everything off. You may find this pair to be the key to pulling it all together. In that case it is so worth it to be able to use other orphans in the closet that have been waiting for these jeans to come out and play. This pair will hopefully expand you wardrobe greatly.

Maya, no need to have buyers remorse, I mean these are THE jeans you have wanted all the time. If they turn not not to be all that, you can always send them back.. Can't wait to see them on you!

San, this DID leave a bit gap in my wardobe because I wear boots pretty much all winter long and I have been wearing my ill-fitting Mias the whole time. Granted, winter is pretty much over and done with, but I would still like to wear them with tunics in the spring.

Anne, did I say that? I think I went a bit harder on myself later on because I'm really trying to save to get me through this drought at work.

It's pretty much impossible to pass up THE item that will bring it all together in your wardrobe. I couldn't pass on them if that is just what I needed and had been looking for.

you did the right thing, and i swear i'm not just being an enabler! when i caved, i caved for something i fell in love with, but didn't necessarily fill any holes in my closet - i just wanted it. you, on the other hand, caved for something pretty essential to some outfits in your wardrobe. don't beat yourself up about it!

I've been saving all my money up for the past month and a half because of a big shopping trip that is coming up. It's been so hard! But I really wanted that denim BCBG jacket that is like the white version I have. It finally went on sale while I was saving! But I had told myself that if it did, I would make an exception. So I bought it, and I'm quite happy, because it was something that I wanted before, and had already told myself I would make an exception for. I don't really think of that as "breaking" a ban, because it's not an impulse purchase. I think the same thing goes for your jeans. That was something you needed, and had already decided would suit your wardrobe. I agree with the ladies above. Just enjoy your jeans! I don't think you broke your ban, really.

Also, I tend toward an apple as well, so you're not the only one.

Maya, consider the cost per wear you'll have on these jeans. You already know you'll be making good use of them. That should make you feel better. Also, they may save you money in the long run because they are exactly what you want. You'll no longer be looking for and buying second or third choice when you are satisfied with what's in your closet. Enjoy them.

You may find that once they come it isn't really what you wanted anyway & if so you return them and you won't be fighting it in your head the entire time. Also, if they are perfect when they come - for me that would be one more thing to reinforce that it was the right decision. Just be sure that they meet your criteria when they get here so you are ok with your decision!

Maya, I think that a perfect pair of jeans is totally the right reason for breaking a shopping ban. It's THE wardrobe staple for someone with your lifestyle. Enjoy it!

Regarding apples ... Imogen's post http://insideoutstyle.blogspot.....angle.html has brought me some freedom in knowing its my bone structure that prevents me from having a very defined waistline. (Exercise to flatten my belly does bring confidence too.)

Thanks Cricket. That's absolutely right as I am very short-waisted. I know I'm never going to have a very defined and graceful waistline, but I think there is some happy medium between that and having it spill over the waistband...

I noticed that Cricket, but the apple info is actually not accurate for me, as my waist isn't anywhere near as big as my hips. Your incorrect link was actually correct and described me perfectly. The stuff about being short-waisted is spot on. I'm sort of on the threshold though, as my waist is exactly 9" less than my hips. The reason I tend towards an apple is because my low waist is a whole 5" larger than my natural waist. That's what I'm trying to work on right now.

Where do you define your waist and your "low waist" Maya? (Just out of interest)

Anne, I measure the waist where my natural waist is (where my torso bends when I lean to the side). The lower waist is just the biggest part of my tummy I guess. Since I am short-waisted, I think it's more important to keep the difference as small as possible than if I were better proportioned.

Maya take solace in the fact that you "tend towards" rather than are an apple like myself!!!! The diff. between my waist and hips/bust is a mere 3 inches. Please be thankful you have some shape!!!!

What a bunch of enablers!!!! Just kidding. Maya, I think I missed the post about your shopping ban and job circumstances but I feel strongly that you should not buy something that you cannot afford. That's part of the reason why we as a nation are in the economic mess that we are right now. After all, it's just a pair of jeans, right? However, if there is room in your budget (even if you're giving up something else to make room for this), the cost per wear definitely justifies the purchase of an item that you're going to be using all the time.

Please do post pictures and report back on how these jeans work. I am an inverted triangle/apple shape and have some of the same requirements as you for jeans (higher rise etc), so depending on your feedback, I could add them to my wish list.

Well I definitely didn't put the purchase on my credit card, if that is what you mean. Money is tight, that's all. I don't have a lot of expenses in general though.

I anticipate that they will fit pretty much just like the straight leg version, which fit me perfectly.

A bit late here, but just wanted to join the enablers. If the jeans fit you perfectly, then I say for go for it! I think it's worth it for an item that is going to get a lot of use in your wardrobe.

SmartBargains is miserably slow (and illogically expensive) with shipping, so they have an estimated arrival date of March 27! Pics will come but it will be a while. By the time I get them boot wearing season will be mostly over
