Teddy coat trend?

I absolutely cannot buy this coat as I am moving across the Atlantic in two months and it is the size of a suitcase, but now my plans are to pick up one of these in London for fall. It feels like a hug and looks rather cool to my eye.

Tell me I'm crazy. What's your take on the Teddy coat trend?

Looks so cozy.

I have a soft spot for them in my memory — I have my mom’s old one from the 70s in a chest in my basement. It’s too beat up to wear, but deeply nostalgic. I’m not sure I’ll wear one, but I do enjoy the vibe.

I bought one in taupe a couple years ago. It's a shorter blazer style. Super cozy. Sometimes I wear it around the house when it's cold. It's not something I'd spend a lot of money on but it's a fun piece and I get compliments when I wear it.

They're certainly not everyone's cup of tea. My daughter's comment was, "I hope you didn't pay much for that".

I have a pale blue one from last winter, and am super pleased with myself when I wear it. Flattery be damned, despite what I usually moan about , but I too get lots of compliments on it. I think they are almost a classic .

They look cozy, they sort of disappeared after everyone stopped wearing fur. Personally I don’t want to wear anything that encourages bringing back fur.

Jenni.......Mine is 100% polyester with a poly/spandex lining. You're right.....It would never be mistaken for fur. If anything, it looks like a plush, nubby rug or a stuffed toy. I've never liked the look of fur....real or faux.

When they fit, they are fabulous and very fun. Fit is hard to get right. A delicate balance between it overwhelming your frame, and looking like a plush toy.

The sleeves on this one are too long. Sleeves might be a little wide too.

I well understand the appeal. They are soft, cozy and texture-rich. And you are not crazy. If the colour looks good on you, go for it. Personally, I would probably choose a grey one (if available), as it would be a great match with my colouring and my wardrobe.

Actually I think my hubby has recently bought a zip-up jacket rather like that, on sale from Kathmandu brand. It has that sort of nubbly finish and is really soft and warm, he is thoroughly enjoying it. Cost per wear already good and he only bought it a few weeks ago!

Angie - I have relatively short arms, so over-long sleeves is something familiar. (I also do have a habit of tucking my hands into long sleeves like a kid, as you see in photo 1, where the left one has completely disappeared!) Will be mindful of this in the future: thanks for the observation!

Muffin - Completely uncompressible: the worst kind of article for packing (and I think probably bulky on to wear on the plane)!

I have an olive one from Zara that is even longer than this. To Angie's point, it definitely overwhelms me, but it was a blessing (and a hug) on the coldest, windiest days last winter. I've thought about shortening it to help make it more usable .... but I'm definitely not getting rid of it.

I think the teddy coat, especially the shorter length jacket, is cute and on trend. Longer length, belted teddy coats, at least to my eye, can veer dangerously close to bathrobe territory. They would not be practical for me, as Seattle weather can be very damp/wet in the fall and winter months.

Oh gosh. I 'm really an outlier on this one. Teddy coats veer dangerously close to Yeti territory to me. I do find a Teddy bomber kind of cute. Maybe a half Yeti?
