Team Shoulders/Linebacker/Swimmer

You know who you are,Teammates. I'm on the hunt for a button down--basic white and somewhat fitted for layering. I'd prefer wrinkle resistant, machine washable and under $50. I'm not sure where to start looking--I was thinking Lands End or LL Bean. Thoughts? Suggestions? Where do you find your button downs?

You might also see what Eddie Bauer has to offer, but beware of boxiness. My No. 1 suggestion is to only consider a blouse with stretch.

Yes, I'm on your team. A great white button down is on my list as well. I'm contemplating Brooks Brothers. A bit higher than your price range (and mine) but I think this is a basic that I need to invest a bit more in. I'll have to order them because they're not available in my area.

I've had great luck with wrinkle resistant from Eddie Bauer as well as Nordstrom's FoxCroft line. Not sure how they do on the shoulders since my shoulders are different.

I broke down and did Brooks Brothers in their slimmest fit. It fits well and I like that it's nice a smooth right out of the dryer. It is a little spendy, and I wash mine after every wear because I don't want it to get pit stains! (-:

I am quite firmly on your team. I do not wear button downs at all. I just ordered my first white sort-of-buttondown shirt and will let you know how it goes. Sorry not to be of help, just support...

I'm on your team also! I don't have a white button-down and have been wanting one for some time. I thought I saw a thread here a few days ago about a nice white button-down at GAP. (I think it was GAP!)

I'm afraid I'm not much help either--I have never found a perfect, fitted, white button-down! I would second Kyle's suggestion about looking for stretch and avoiding boxiness, but that can be so tricky when one's shoulders need to fit the shirt but everything else is much narrower. Hmm, I wonder about the BB shirts people have mentioned--may be worth a shot? I have sometimes found button-downs at BR (they have different cuts now), the Gap, and Ann Taylor, but none that are perfect, and never a white one that fit my list of criteria (nice thick fabric, stretch, sleeves long enough, no weird pockets on the chest).

I have Brooks Brothers no iron, Tommy Hilfiger, and Express button downs. I like them all. Good luck with your hunt.

Thanks for all of the suggestions! LOL, Kyle, I was going to add stretch to my list--thanks for reminding me.
Refugee, let us know how the BB shirt works for you. It sounds like it works for Jenava and Lisa. I would be open to spend more if it fit well and was comfortable. My past experience is they are the kind of shirt I can't wait to rip off as soon as I get home.
Sihaya, thanks for the EB suggestion too. I haven't had much luck with Foxcroft--they seem to run a little small for me.
AG--keep us posted!
Marley, I haven't had luck with Gap except in their boyfriend style fit--slightly oversized. The standard shirt that I tried was too tight in the arms. They probably have several different cuts--probably need to do more investigating.
Jonesy, I was hoping someone would pipe up with the perfect shirt. Alas, I think I'm going to have to make somewhat of an effort and hit the B&M stores. I'm not in a hurry--it's just something I would like to find sometime (before I expire.)
