Target trip: One miss and a possible hit

So I went to Target for vitamins and before I knew it, I was browsing the clothes. As you all know, the clothes are completely on the other side of the store from the health section...how did I get over there? It's an eternal mystery; one that DH asks frequently...

Any way, I took a look at these, available in black and army green:

Hmm. I thought I liked the cargo skinnies look, but I was wrong. Definitely not for me. But if you're looking for an inexpensive way to dip your toe into that water, they might be worth a try. I think they'd look fab on the right person.

And then I found this dress:

I swear it doesn't translate well on camera, but I think it works. It's hard to see but there's ruching on the side where the wrap attaches, with a small tie. It's very figure hugging though, so I'm afraid it might be too enboobening for work. Maybe with a thin cardigan? What say you, YLF?

Beth, in the picture it doesn't seem too emboobening. LOL Does it look that way in the mirror?

I love the pattern and the style! Is it a real wrap dress, though? If so, I may have to say I don't love the style, only because I have found true wrap dresses to be overly perilous when sitting and when walking on windy days. (And I'm prone to anxious fantasies such as "what if I shut the end of the tie in a desk drawer by accident and then stand up...")

But I love the pattern no matter what!

April, it looks very enboobening in the mirror...very body hugging. That, along with the pattern makes me wonder about wearing it to school. It's a faux wrap, so there's no chance of danger if I have to scoot under my desk for a dropped WISC block!

The dress looks great on you - perfect for going from work (with cardi or cropped jacket for less enboobening) to dinner or whatever

Did you try the skinny cargos with a voluminous top? would a cami work under the wrap dress avoid boob flashing!? x

Edit- I'd be happy to wear a dress like this to work (school) as long as I had a cami underneath x

Louise, it was the thigh pockets that killed it for me and sadly I'd need a top that went to my knees. Ah well. As for the dress, a cami might be just the thing to fill in a little of the neckline if I need to.

Cami - if you need to fill in, but I use that Fashion Tape if I just want something to stay closed. It works really well for me, but my chest does NOT stress out any tops, IYKWIM

Target has a way of becoming more of an adventure than you originally intended. Perhaps that's why I love it so. I think the dress looks fantastic on you, and not too enboobening or boobalicious from the photo. Cami under, cardi on top and you're good to go. Strip off c and c for the dinner date.

MNsara, April's phobia of the true wrap dress is far too strong for anything but extreme CBT.

Enboobening? I am fascinated. How am I going to use this new word in my vocabulary? Who can I try this out on? I learn something new every day from my YLF friends!
Beth - that dress is gorgeous in the print and in the way it fits you. Do what it takes - cardi, cami, or tape - to make it work. I think so many different colors can be worn with it and different styles of shoes/boots. Could you layer a thin top under it? I can see this dress going from September to December with the accessories getting warmer as the weather gets colder. Good find!

Fab dress! I, too, was going to suggest a cami. I'd also opt for a layer over it, such as a cardi, to break up the wild print.

I think you all are right with the cami and/or cardigan options. I'm just trying to avoid the Jessica Rabbit look at my elementary school. :O

Cookie, the term enboobening comes directly from Sally's blog at Already Pretty. I appropriated it since I think it's a great description.

And Angie! I've already tried this dress with my Fryes...something that never would have occurred to me a year ago. For that matter I wouldn't have owned either piece a year ago. Could it be I'm finally learning?

As for Tango, he tends to accessorize me with stray goat hairs and wisps of hay, my little cherub.

I think it's beautiful on you! Not too enboobening at all but I understand, I'm a little self conscious at work also. I used to be that way about skirts above the knees too, but I got over that and my legs are now hanging all the time. So maybe we can be more brave about enboobening dresses someday. I love the dress though, great find!

Sara, you should do it! After all of my NAS expenditures, snapping up a dress at Target felt almost saintly.

Besides you already have the expensive part...the dress was $24.99, so that's only $12.49 per boob!

Beth - that dress looks fantastic on you! (I do understand your hesitation. I'm overly sensitive about anything too clingy.) But I think you could pop on a little cardi and it would totally work.

April - ha! I have the same kinds of totally neurotic fears! You made me laugh! And made me think that scene in "My Big Fat Greek Wedding" where she's talking on the headset at her desk, then stands up and walks away - with the headset still attached to the phone. Totally something I would do. (Okay. Have done.)

Beth I think the dress looks wonderful on you!!! Makes me want to wander into a Target store as well, I've been very dissapointed in things I've seen in there lately (which my bank balance is happy with), but never say never, right?
