Hi Tanya!

I thought I'd continue our discussion here so we don't mess up the blog posting about casual summer pants.

I was wondering--I found these on the J Brand site. Are these your jeans?

Also, how do they run? Pretty true to size? Do they stretch out fairly quickly? I would probably wear them with tunics, but also with shorter tops, so I would rather that they not be too baggy. I usually take a 29 in numbered jeans, even though I wear a size 6--go figure. My JC clamdiggers are 28s though, but they seem to run kind of big.

P.S. I was in my math professor's office and there was another student in there and he really wants to go to MIT for graduate school to do nanotechnology. I told them I had an online friend who is getting her PhD at MIT, and they were both highly impressed, and said you must be super smart.

Yes, those are indeed my jeans.

I'd say that they run somewhat big. I wear 27 ( Paige, Citizens) / 26 ( Seven for All Mankind, Joe's) and originally got these in 27 and had to exchange them for 26. So you may want to try 28 first.

I only wore them once so far and they did stretch a bit- not too much, but noticeable.

you can see them when they have just arrived, before I hemmed and wore them, as well as their various measurements (on size 26). I'll take a photo now of how they look after one wear so that you can compare. I'll post it soon.

I have very skinny calves so on me they are really true straight legs.

Thanks for the whole MIT compliment. I often feel very below average on the MIT scale of smartness tough, I'm fairly normal and non-geeky compared to most of people there.

Thanks Tanya! That is really helpful. It doesn't look like they stretched out too much. How is it in the seat? That's where I get the most bag. I think I will try the 28s first, and go from there. Did you order yours from the J Brand site?

I'm super impressed you got into a graduate program at MIT! My dream would be to do Statistics at Stanford, Theoretical Math at Princeton, or Algebraic Topography at the University of Texas, but I'm not holding my breath!

They stretched a bit in the seat, not too much tough. Where it bothers me the most is the stretching in the waistbands, but those in general tend to be a bit too big for me anyway ( stuff that fits my hips is very often 1 or 2 sizes too big in the waist).

I got mine from SmartBargains, but I have just checked it out for you and they only have one pair leftt and it is size 27

Please be warned that they are quite long, I had to take around 4" off. But it wasn't an issue, since they are pretty much straight.

Thanks Tanya, I will keep that in mind. I end having to hem the majority of my pants anyway, since I have such short legs. Hemming a straight pair will be nice because I won't have to worry about cutting off too much "flare."

Well, no luck finding white skinny jeans of any brand at the Domain. Hmm...maybe I will just order the J Brand online and accept that the shipping cost will just be part of getting the right fit. Tanya, they are $158.00 on the J Brand site. Have you seen them any cheaper anywhere else (other than the smart bargains site where you got them?). Thank you!

Revolve has them in CREAM on sale for $79 in 28 &29! ( Patience mentioned on the other thread that the cream runs small, unlike white which runs big)

And if you never bought anything from them before, for first time order there is an extra 30% discount, for which you'll have to call/email after you place the order. There are restrictions on brands, so I'm not sure if it will work, bit it's worth a try! $ 56 for these would be quite a steal!

Tanya, I just ordered the last pairs of 28 and 29--thanks for the tip, bloodhound! I'll just send back whichever one doesn't fit (I'm hoping at least one will--if they run really small I might not fit into the 29s).

How do I ask for the 30% discount? They sent me an e-mail that said I was entered into a drawing for $200, but that's it.

Just email them with your order number and say that this is your first order. You could also call their customer service instead, but I personally prefer email. As I've said, some brands are excluded, and I don't know if J Brand is one of them, but it's worth a try

They just refunded the 30% discount to my card, hooray! Now I wish I had gotten the white ones as well. Oh well. I'll have to save those for next allowance, anyway.

I think the cream run smaller because the leg opening is smaller too. The measurements on the website say it's 13.5" at the knee and the opening. I hope I can get my legs into them!

I got the cream J Brand cigarette jeans today and they run REALLY small. I usually take a 29 in most jeans (a 28 in the J. Crew clamdiggers) and I could barely fit these 29s up over my rear and there was no hope of zipping them.

Thanks for the tip Tanya--I'm really glad I got to try these. I guess I'll keep my eyes open for other cream skinny jeans. If anyone sees them, let me know? The only ones I can find right now are from Ralph Lauren, and I'd buy them except they are some sort of pearlescent denim (shiny) and I'm not sure that's the look I'm going for. I think after seeing the J Brands in person, I'd want cream jeans that have tonal stitching as well, since the brown stitching is sort of distracting.

Thank you again, Tanya! I think I'm going to exchange these 2 pairs of cream for a pair of the white. Should I just start with a 29 in the white and go from there, you think?

Ana, I had a feeling the cream wouldn't work based on my experience. (Although I bet one of those pairs would fit Tanya except she's on a jean ban.) I agree about the stitching. I think the 29 in white will probably be your best first bet.

Hmm, in my experience the white ones run a bit big. I'm 26/27 and needed 26 in those. Buut you can always exchange them later once again.

No problem! Like I said, I am glad that I got to try them and see how they fit, etc. I think the J Brand will work for me, but maybe just not that wash, or maybe if I find them in a 32 or something.

Hmm...well, now I don't know what to get in the white wash. I would order both at the same time, but I don't really want to tie up over $300 all at once. Let's see...you said it didn't stretch much in the seat, but the waistband stretched a bit, right?

Yes, that's exactly right, the seat ( and all over) stretched a bit, but the waistband a lot.

Have you by any chance tried on J Crew clamdiggers in white/color ( not the denim ones you have), since those would be great to compare. 26 in those I could barely zip and felt like a sausage ( 27 gapped at the waist a lot). 26 in white J Brand 14" white is about 3/4 size bigger, I'd say.

I have tried on the white! They ran smaller on me, and I didn't like the rise (too low and gapey). Hmm...if the J Brand is 3/4 size bigger and stretches, maybe I should go with a 28 and wear around the house to see how they stretch. I'd rather have them be a tad snug when they stretched than too big, I hate that!

Sounds like a plan! But I'd hate to be responsible for the wrong decision, so I'll leave it up to you You should ask their customer service which size they recommend , they tend to be pretty good at those things.
