Has anyone ever tried the tie racks or belt racks to hang tanks and camis? I'm tempted, since I don't think of them when they're tucked away in a drawer. Just wondering if this is one of those good ideas in theory, but a pain in practice to actually use.

Would you have to hang them by their straps though? I'd worry that the straps would stretch out too much (especially on camis).

I tried that and I think it can work but it got messy for me. I have some small 16x16" plastic drawers on a low shelf in my closet and I keep the workhorse neutral colors in one. I keep others folded on edge ( like file folders) in a bureau drawer. I've also used children's huggable hangers before because the slim hanger doesn't take up much space, the tanks don't slide off, and they don't mind being a bit smooshed.

Yes, I would hang them by their straps, one strap on each side of the middle bar, so 6 tops on each hanger. Unfrumped I was worried about whether they would get caught up on each other, etc.
Today I just draped 3 each over the rod of a regular hanger for starters.
Hmm, must think on this.

I store mine in a hanging "shoe holder" long narrow fabric shelves that Velcro onto the hanging rod. I just roll them up and pop them in.
It only takes up a little space and it is easy to access without having to move other tops
I also store tights and socks in this

Thanks, HiggsMisstress, I've seen that. I definitely put that under the 'fine in theory but pain in real life to just grab and go' category ;). I can barely navigate my tiered skirt rack lol.

I feel like I'd constantly be knocking all the camis off the rack when I went to grab one. That's why I never bought a rack for myself. I currently hang all my camis on one hanger; the straps have not stretched.

Hmm, maybe it works for some people, but I like mine just folded/rolled in a drawer -- they have a dedicated drawer next to my sock, hosiery and underwear drawers. I'd rather reserve hanging space for things that are not just underlayers, but you might wear tanks more than I do.

I do what you do now Janet, but thought that for here in FL, hanging might be a better way.

I have a ton of tanks and camis and have yet to come up with the perfect way to store them. Currently, if it's a tank that I would wear on its own, then it gets hung up with my other tops. If it's a cami that only goes under something else, I consider it underwear and it gets stowed in a drawer.

It allows you to access each piece individually without disturbing the others,
and works best with tops with narrow straps.
Otherwise I tend to hang the best matching tank under the top I wear it with.

An update: last week I got this rack http://www.amazon.com/gp/produ.....PDKIKX0DER. I liked that the ends turn up, so straps won't slip off.
Here it is in use. It's moderate, as far as ease of use. But about the same as my tiered skirt rack. I think hanging wovens and knits alternating makes it easier for the materials to slide apart from each other. Knit on top of knit gets a little clingy.
So far so good. Being able to see it all helps, and it takes up about 5 or 6 inches width wise on the closet rod, when I have a full 12 tanks on it.

Oh, and the hook fully rotates, so it's easy access to get in there and get a top on or off.

Looks like a good solution. I really like the looks of that spinning one but looks like it would take up a good bit of room.

I do the Rae trick - one hanger with multiple camis or tank tops! Your new rack looks fun! *twirly*

hmm I roll mine and put in a drawer by color-- but I am intrigued by that Hickson hanger. Wonder if it's a pain though to get the tops on and off easily.

The tanks that get worn year round as a base layer rather than on their own are rolled in a row in a drawer and are easy to access and keep neat. (since setting up the drawer several years ago, I've never had to redo it.). I line them up by color. The ones that are woven, mostly EF silk, get their own hanger in the closet. These are often worn on their own in summer and need to look pristine.

I wear more tank tops (as layering tops) than camis so they are all hanging on individual hangers in my closet. I have a few camis that are stashed in my jammies drawer.

I used to do the drawer trick, too, but here in FL I find if I don't see them I don't wear them. So came the idea to hang them.
This rack is working pretty well. I will say the camis and other spaghetti straps are the easiest, and the woven ones because the material slides better and doesn't want to grab the tank above or below it.
The stickiest ones are the knit, and then the ribbed knit, and lastly, the full straps, and the racerback are hardest to get off and on.
In the future, say back in Tahoe, I imagine I will put my ribbed layer tanks back in the drawer and use this for my wovens and spaghetti strap tanks. I will probably hang about 8 or 10, not the fully racked 12. A little 'wriggle room'.

An interesting solution for tank tops. I've learned that in drawers, I would forget what I own. I really have to see everything, and that includes my t-shirts and tanks so now they sit on a shelf above the clothes on hangers.
