tall boots ?

I am seeing more tall boots looking like these photos than ones that fit tighter at the top. I seem to read soooo many posts on here about this being "wrong'. Do you think more women wear them tight at the top or more like the photos here? I do not see many tall boots in my warmer climate, but the majority I do see seem to fit tighter, but I am going to start paying more attention,. as it is colder now and more will be wearing tall boots.

LOL... I always assumed this is because they are models with stick thin legs, who don't quite fill out their boots. No way in the world will I EVER find this kind of fit on me!!

Will be interesting to see what other think, maybe they ARE getting wider. And I'm just jaded.

I agree with Elizabeth P -- the leg shape of the person wearing the boot must be taken into account.

I thought the exact same thing as Elizabeth. I think some women actually like to have the roomy boot look to make their already-thin legs look even smaller, frankly. This is, after all, the era of the thigh gap.

Interesting! I recently got rid of tall boots that had too much of a gap. Probably should've kept them...maybe they're right on trend!

I don't think these are wrong. The more fitted boot feels more polished to me. I think this is a fit detail that gets more attention here than elsewhere.

I think some of this is that many women wear what they can find, and most tall boots fit moderate size calves. Unfortunately for me perhaps, I have a poison eye for unfitted or too short tall riding style boots. Comes from years of riding and striving for the long/lean silloutte regardless of your size.

I'm with Ann. I think that women just buy the style that they like and aren't so concerned about proper fit. I don't like the gap on myself because I am short, and I think that the gap just draws the eyes to the top of the boots and makes me look stumpy. But when I go to the mall I do indeed see many women wearing gappy boots.

I really have a poison eye for this. Probably these women can't find boots that fit their calves. It seems that 99% of the boots out there are for "wide calves". But where are the boots for "regular" calves? I have 13" calves and can't find a pair of tall boots that aren't custom made and really expensive.

I have tall boots with a gap, although not as large a gap as these pictures. I try to minimize it but I have narrow calves and just can't afford the high end brands that seem to be made for more narrow calves. I do the best I can.

I do not think the gap in the examples you show is intentional necessarily.

The first pair looks like a pretty small gap; the second pair look a bit too tall and a bit too wide. I, too, have slimmer calves (plus: I'm shortish) and it is harder to find boots that are scaled down in both height and diameter to keep the proportions right.
