I wear jeans often but don’t have many pairs; I’m happy to repeat styles and wear them to death. I enjoy skinny or wide leg both as long as they’re very high rise and cropped. I’m interested in cropped kick flares, but that’s basically it for me as far as jeans trends go. I’m still traumatized by the extremely low rise, tight bootcut and flares we wore when I was a teen. I like retro-inspired classic styles without whispering, fading, or holes. I cut the straggly hems of the black Levi’s so they’re actually cleaned up from what you can see in my finds. I also have a vintage 90s pair of mid rise mid blue Levi’s that aren’t pictured yet. Their fit isn’t perfect, but so far I can’t seem to give them up because they were a $1 yard sale find. You can’t beat that! Jeans are important to my everyday style but not the interesting part.

Fascinating. I've gone from only having 1-2 pairs of jeans and not being happy with them, to now owning at least 20. Some are in storage because they are either too big or too small.

I prefer dark wash, or else gray, white, or animal print--I have 3 pairs of the latter now--gray, blue, and brown, and another pair that's waiting to see if I lose the Covid weight. And I have some white for warmer weather. I just don't feel right wearing white jeans in cooler weather, so I don't. I like the Paige baby bells and buy a pair every year or so on NAS. I do like Joe's, but like many of you I am tired of skinny jeans and hope to phase them out.

I bought my first pairs of designer jeans on sale after joining YLF years ago. I bought a pair of Paige and a pair of Joe's. These are still my favorites. I have several pairs of NYDJ--right now I like the Marilyn cut. Some full length, some ankle, and some cropped. I do have a pair of Chico's cropped in a sort of burnt orange color and another pair of NYDJ in a soft red.

Ages ago I used to have Gap jeans in several colors, but no longer.

I wear jeans all year round--even in summer except for heat waves as it usually cools off in evenings in the SF Bay area. On 100+ days I'd rather wear a dress.

Having trouble with the high waisted styles. Not quite right for me. I'll keep trying though.

And yep, in my day girls couldn't wear pants to school, even when above the knee style skirts came in. I can't believe that I trudged through snow and ice in a silly skirt, but a girl in pants was sent home. So silly. Guys could wear jeans. At last in college I could wear pants, although I had a part time job 2 days a week and couldn't wear pants those days. The cold didn't bother me so much then.

I feel so lucky Ms Maven to be a bit younger than you and Joy and Vildy! I would have hated to have never been allowed to wear pants. My mother though, who was 40 when she had me- she was born 1920, I was born 1961- never wore pants in her entire life. She claimed they would be so comfortable she would never get out of them? (Mind you, with the amount I wear them, maybe she had a point?!)

Like Janet I tend to be boring and stick to classic skinny or straight leg jeans with a high rise. I am happy with this as my jeans are basics that work well with my statement tops, jackets and coats. My most recent acquisition is the cream jeans in finds by my favourite label Mother - I love the colour. The others I have had for much longer but wear all of them frequently. Jeans are definitely heavy lifters in my wardrobe.

I love jeans. i would wear only jeans if I had to pick only one bottom piece to wear for the rest of my life. I dont have many pairs as I have had a lot of size fluctuations in the last 10 years. At the moment I have two pairs of straight blue jeans, 2 pairs of cropped jeans with raw edges and a pair of black skinny jeans. I wear them to work and spend a lot of time trying to make sure my jeans at least look smart casual. Some schools have a no jeans policy (not mine) and in that case I would just wear black jeans or coloured so no-one noticed. I dont see why people have a thing against jeans when i see so many people wear leggings and knits to work that look much more sloppier than jeans. I have tried dress pants and even those bengaline pants but I have a very small bottom and I think you need some booty to look good in dress pants. Anyway I've never found a pair of dress pants that look good. I do have one other coloured cotton pair of jeans (NYDJ) which are really comfortable and I'm thinking I should just wear different coloured jeans or cotton jeans to incorporate more formality and jazz things up a bit. There is a swedish netflix drama which features an actress who wears jeans to work and I love the way she always wears a plain pair of jeans but jazzes it up with really sparkly tops even to corporate events. I prefer straight dark blue jeans but am open to other styles.

How does one navigate snow and ice in a skirt? Triple stockings?

I always liked jeans - bootcut, straight, cropped, flare.. Since I work in retail - my jeans were mostly from places I've worked. GAP jeans were the longest in my wardrobe but not anymore.
I was never able to wear skinny jeans and straight or bootcut were more common in my closet ( darker and mid blue washes ).

Currently I like my Lil Maggie jeans from Lucky Brand that not available anymore - low rise and flared ( or almost wide leg ) in light blue wash.
The most recent ones are two mid rise cropped bootcut jeans that got the waist dropped lower - snake print and velvet in navy color - they both look more like pants than jeans.
Not planing on any additions - adopting the existing ones better this year.

Most of my current crop. I wear the stretchier ones the most at home but wear all when I have occasion to go out.

I wear jeans almost daily except in the summer when I prefer dresses. I have tried to add variety to my jeans collection, but the truth is that I strongly prefer full length, mid to high rise, slim straight or skinny jeans. I have a mix of washes from light to dark, but no white jeans.....

While they are an essential item of my wardrobe, they are also one of the most boring parts of my style because I have such narrow preferences here.

my new faves are Mother they fray ....so comfy and bonus...look great! I used to be a big pilcro fan - but I think they changed their fabric - way too stretchy and bag out asap. but I do have an older skinny pair that I wear at least twice a week! kut from the cloth greta I like too.
mother in dark denim, pilcro in a lighter wash with slight distressing, greta are a lighter wash that I just love. and a pair of kut white slightly distressed that are super comfy and versatile.

I love jeans--pretty much the only pants I wear. My uniform is denim, graphic-t or top, blazer or cardigan.

I prefer a high rise and a mix of straight leg, skinny leg & cropped. I have a short rise so some of the high rise are too high--but the mid rise cuts can be too low & let a little muffin top slip out...

I have found that sometimes I inadvertently I buy a size too large, as I don't like them too tight around the middle (where I tend to carry my extra weight) but that makes them too large everywhere else after a few hours of wear.

for brands Im pretty classic, The Levi Wedgies are my current fav. & I wear the Wit & Wisdom grey snake print often, and straight black jeans. I prefer non-distressed, but it can be challenging finding the right style, wash and plus size in a cool jean--there are some options, but not nearly as many in designer styles

I'd like to add some lighter, classic straight legs and another pair of cuffed jeans--I have almost worn out the Kut Catherines. The Good American High rise are nice for a minute, but the fabric is so stretchy and the rise soo high, the crotch slides down without a belt--a little annoying--

Rachy, I can't even remember what I wore on my feet. Must have had some kind of low boots--snow boots? Knee high boots were not in style! My high school was around a mile trek--and had to walk half a mile to catch the bus. Sometimes a Dad would give us a ride. I do remember on the side streets without much traffic we could run and slide in the icy tire tracks. Saved some time! Sometimes my Mom would pick us up after school if it was snowing.

I was young! and agile. And no, didn't wear much in the way of stockings but sometimes tights. Just ankle socks. I'll see if I can find some photos.

Hmm, very interesting. I have loads of jeans, but my actively in use collection is probably around 4 or 5. The rest are special look jeans, or slightly big or slightly small. My favorites are all boyfriend cuts, which can work on me as anything from skinnies, to straights, to even boyfriend depending on the size and exact cut.

Jeans are very useful to me right now because they keep me from gaining weight, lol. I have to be able to zip them up!

I have four pairs of jeans at the moment and while they are all straight high waisted they are different from each other.

I prefer straight or flared, skinnies were never my best look. I hope to replace my white jeans this year and add either black jeans or flares or something different as well.

I am like Janet or Gillian or Bijou- my jeans are hard workers but often not a statement in themselves. Four to five pairs is about right for me to have options but also mix it up with other sorts of pants.

And another reason to keep a pair of dress slacks even if jeans are my first choice every day: jury duty.

ETA nope. Three fourths of the people reporting for jury duty had on jeans. Another several had on hiking chinos or cargo pants. A handful had on dress pants or khaki slacks

I LOVE jeans - they have been a staple since I was little. I never got into skirts or dresses, so denim became my go-to bottom. Jeans don’t fit me off-the-rack, and they can get spendy after including tailoring costs. So, I tend to stick with familiar brands and cuts (nothing too adventurous or trendy), and I hang on to them for a long time, patching and whatnot as needed.

I’ve thinned my denim collection a lot over the past few years. I had 28; I am down to 13. I used to have mostly deep indigo, but all the deep blue ones have been purged in favor of a washed black. The rest are mid-wash blue. I’ve never been able to find white jeans I liked, and colored denim tends to fall in and out of favor, depending on the year.

All except the bootcuts are in regular rotation; those are hemmed for shoes that aren’t seeing much wear these days.

My jeans are worn off duty only. I like light and coloured as well as dark jeans. At present, I have light blue, medium blue, white, grey and black jeans. I would welcome jeans in bright colours, burgundy, navy and patterns. I prefer classic styles, so all my jeans are strait legs or slight boot cuts, and none of them are distressed or very faded.

I wear jeans a lot 3 seasons a year, and less during the summer. I only own two pairs--a dark wash skinny, and a light wash cropped straight. I'm pretty much constantly rotating jeans, because I wear them so much they wear out quickly, usually by the fabric giving way on the inner thigh. They generally last about 100 wears, which can be less than a year! I've made my peace with that, and enjoy the opportunity to update regularly.

All jeans all the time. I have far too many pairs of jeans, but I do wear all of them. Most are straight or wide leg, with a high rise, but I do have a few pairs of slouchy skinnies with a lower rise.

Jenn, I love that approach of owning just a few pairs and wearing them to death, but I can't ever seem to predict which jeans will be keepers and which will be just ok. The one exception: I'm on my fourth pair of the Everlane boyfriend jeans that I got to be a fit tester for, years ago. I love them. They discontinued them last year so I bought a backup pair for when my current pair bites the dust.

Haha jeans are the one item I find really tricky & therefore don't wear much of - I also have only 2 pairs @Carla, but that's on purpose (not from whittling down a collection)

I have a dark wash pair of jeggings that I only wear in winter (practically tucked into boots) & a 10+ years old trouser jean (slightly bootcut) that was also a deep indigo rinse (once upon a time ) but has now morphed into a slightly faded greyish blue. I've considered redyeing them since they were a wardrobe workhorse in the past, but am finding them increasingly more difficult to style their mid rise without looking dated (also I'm now finding bootcut a little impractical when it's wet, so that really narrows the 'transitional season' window in which they can be worn).

So I'm in a bit of a denim rut now - should I even get new ones, if I won't wear them? I'm attracted to the high waisted looser styles that are currently trending, but like you don't want a faded or ripped wash (dark wash, high waisted balloon jeans are the current HEWI - even better if they're a jogger style, with elasticated cuffs & cargo pockets!)

I'm still on the hunt, but I recently bought some more high waisted straight legged jeans (as a compromise for now). This reminds me - will post them on the forum this weekend, to garner your opinions! I really hate jeans shopping, because it makes me feel like my body isn't made for them lol so I appreciate learning from you all!

I'm just coming off of three years straight of wearing jeans every day to work, so I was disappointed to see that many of my coworkers wear jeans to work.
I like distressed jeans for casual/going out. I tend to like lighter washes forster and darker in winter. I am wearing higher rises and straighter legs than in recent past.
I save non-distressed pairs for work, and I would like a little more variety there (but I tend to shop at Target and Old Navy almost exclusively these days...)

My all time favorites are skinny jeans with a high waist

I can see by all of the thoughtful comments here that jeans can be quite tricky for many women.
I have quite a few pairs of jeans; around a dozen, I think. Around five years ago I found a pair of Paige jeans marked way down at Nordie’s. Couldn’t believe the difference in fit and fabric, so I have stayed with that brand. They are always available at Nordstrom Rack on deep discount.
I also like Levi’s and Lucky Brand.
