I've had my eyes on this jacket for a good year now. To prove it, it's also one of the links from this post 10 months ago.

I had erased it from my Amazon wish list *and* my Ebay list, because it was just too expensive. But this weekend I happened upon it on sale, with an extra % off and free shipping, and now I'm wringing my hands over it again. It has really good reviews, and I love the steampunk-y, WWII-ish style - which I've searched for cheaper, to no avail. I could see it with jeans, skirts, shorts-with-tights, plaid shirts.... If I'm going to get it, I feel like I should pounce now, before my size finally sells out.

However, I have a dark chocolate brown jacket and black blazer already. And it's still not cheap at $170. And I am thinking about changing careers, so it wouldn't be the *most* responsible buy (though I could pay for it by selling off some corporate wear I wouldn't need anymore).

What to do, YLF?

Oh no Rae...it's GORGEOUS! (I actually like the entire outfit the model is wearing here). Yes, you are thinking of changing careers - but you're wanting to change into fashion/style correct? Wouldn't this kind of suit that type of position too?

Are your dark chocolate brown jacket and black blazer leather as well? If not then this will give a different vibe altogether.
Is it outdoor jacket only or you can wear in as a blazer indoors? For me that would be a crucial question as I can get more milage from jackets I can weara indoors so purchase is more justified.
As for the money and changing careers - only you can know if this jacket will break a huge hole in your budget ans if you can afford it.
And I just LOVE leather so I may no be the right person to save you here but I can share my own story from the leather store. I was considering a leather jacket and hesitated because I already had 2 outdoor leather jackets and 1 indoor one. Is 4 leather jackets too many? I was thinking this aloud and SA said: "it is not too many at all. Do you know how many I have - more than 30!" Enough said.

It's really cool! This looks lighter in color than chocolate brown, more cognac maybe, so it's not really the same as your other jacket. (I wear my cognac leather jacket all the time, btw). And this seems like something you could wear in your potential new line of work.

2) Only you know your bank account.
3) Selling off unneeded items sounds like an awesome way to offset the cost.
4) You save a lot of money on your wardrobe through swap meets, which also offsets the cost of an occasional (perfectforyou...seriously) splurge.

Let me just add a few manspirations here: the obvious Indiana Jones and Serenity guy, but also it brings to mind Amelia Earhart, and Snoopy as the Red Baron. Do you by any chance own a silk scarf and a pair of goggles? Based on some Amelia photos I can see it with a full victorian skirt and button-up low-heeled boots, or also with some slouchy trousers and a printed scarf tied around the neck in a 40s vibe. Oooh, jodhpurs!

(ETA, somewhat feebly, that maybe the sleeves'll be too long and require expensive alteration, what with it being leather? That's the best I've got. It's really a unique, uber-cool piece. Love the color too!)

Rae, it's perfectly you and if you've waited a year and have the $, why not? I would not wear the high collar but I know you can, and I can see you rocking it many ways.

My new online mantra is "remember it may not work IRL" since I've had nothing but failures recently. Who knows, you may find out it's too stiff or too cheaply made and send it back.

And if you don't try it, will it haunt you forever? I've learned not to impulse shop because many items simply disappear from my mind after a few days, but if they don't, then I know they are probably worth trying.

Well, I found a slightly better coupon code and noticed that I had some Overstock rewards points to use, so I ordered it! Una made a good point that it may not work for me anyway and it's better not to be left wondering.

I love it for you. Sorry. And you do need *some* expensive pieces to mix in with the dollar items. Not that $170 is all that expensive for real leather. Try it if returns are allowed!

Woweee! That looks like the perfect UWP uniform.You've been waiting for it forever and I can see you using it over and over. Plus it sounds like you can return it if it doesn't work for you. Can't wait to see it on you! BTW I wear my cognac leather jacket as a blazer at work all the time. (When are you coming out with that UWP office wear collection again?)

Rae, I think you should order it (barring the fact that it is returnable?) and THEN decide if you love it and can afford it. Only then will you know if it is a duplication in your cool wardrobe.

Natalie, I should take some time to learn about manufacturing... having a clothing line sounded like a pipe dream at first, but maybe it's more doable now that so much business is done online. The wheels in my head, they are turning.
