Checking J Crew online for new spring clothes weeks ago I spotted this sweater blazer and immediately wanted it. 30% off too!

No, I decided. I have 5 blazers, 3 worn a lot and 2 hardly worn so far. Don't need another. And the 30% off expired.

Well, Susan B. at Une Femme brought it up again.

What do you do when you want something, but based on past experience, it might not get worn enough?

Anyone here tried on this sweater blazer? How does it fit? I've had several JC sweater blazers in the past, but recently put the last one at least 6 years old into the donate bag. All were darker colors, nothing like this one.

I know the 30% off will come again, but it will come back. Or an even better sale price. (Why does anyone buy full price at J Crew anyway?)

I'm on the other side of the fence from you. I don't care at all how frequently or infrequenly an item of clothing is worn.

I don't know but you had me at sweater. This is really the only kind of blazer that I would wear with any frequency. For me, the problem would be the light color--not with my current job at least. Love it for you!

I feel like this piece has some of the elements you were enjoying in a recent post - blazer, strong colour contrast. I don’t think something like this needs to be worn often to be a good choice!

It is a great piece, I saw it too. I also do not care much how often I wear something as long as it makes me happy every time I wear it. Perhaps it is very different from your other blazers as those are not knit? (Completely agree with you on J Crew pricing, I never buy anything full price from them).

Thanks for all your wise advice. I do feel bad that I bought a purple blazer on the NAS sale and have hardly worn it. Maybe I will in the next few months--it's lightweight so more for warmer weather. Iill know from past experience I will wear a sweater blazer more frequently than a structured one.

I did start to think about what I might wear it with--besides jeans. I do have several pairs of pants I could wear with it--even a couple of skirts.

Right now I have no desire to go to the mall to try it on. I can get your advice whether to keep it once I order it.

I think it is worth a try, it seems a cosy blazer and you may be able to use it quite often, depending on your weather and lifestyle!

Sounds like you’ve ordered it.
To me these sort of decisions partly depend on where one is in a sort of “wardrobe cycle”- for me I am still not out of feeling that I have “too much” although way better than when I joined YLF 6 years ago. But there are still some items of clothing I don’t wear “enough”, which for me for a non-special occasion item is about 10 times a year.
So if I had blazers I was hardly wearing, I probably wouldn’t add another. In years to come though ( and knowing you are quite a bit older than me) I might change to getting things I fell in love with a bit more easily. My problem I suppose is falling in love with too many random things ?

The one time I bought a tipped sweater blazer featured on Corporette, I ended up regretting it. The tipping really limits what it goes with, and it made otherwise fine clothing look too regatta club.

If it can be returned, why not give it a try-on and a styling session? Then you can make a proper decision.

I often find that wearing the blazers that l do have and styling them up differently can help me to decide whether or not l would really wear a new one,but if you can’t get it out if your head why not do as Runcarla suggests?

Jenni has hit on my dilemma. I've done lots of experimenting while mostly at home the last few years, lots of styles and colors, so I have accumulated a lot. I did finally order it last night--I can return it.

Yes, cat2, tipping does limit such a blazer's use, seeing it with jeans made me realize that I do have a lot of options and it doesn't need to be a "dressed up" look. However, the tipping is what drew me to this particular blazer.
