In the cream and cognac. I love them on our fellow YLFers that I've seen wearing them! But, I am a very conservative dresser and I'm afraid I won't wear them or I'll feel self-conscious wearing them. Anybody have any shoes like that? Or other clothing item that you love the looks of, but feel odd wearing? Argh! Such a pretty shoe! I never really knew shoe "lust" before, now I do. I don't have any other flat shoes to wear besides converses, so they would fill a hole.....

Hmmm. I'm not going to be much help. These are fab and actually I think they ARE quite conservative - they are oxfords, after all! I think you could find lots of ways to wear them with your everyday outfits.

I'm afraid I can't talk you out of them! They are really comfortable. I am going to keep them in mind for future trips that will involve a lot of city walking.

I have the cognac and cream shoes as well, and although I wasn't sure how I'd wear them at first, I'm *really* liking them with jeans - skinnies, straight legs, and even straight leg white jeans despite the different cream shade on the shoe.

Have you tried them on yet? That might help answer your questions about whether you would feel comfortable wearing them. Also, if you order and they don't feel right when you try them with some outfits at home, it's easy to return!

Heh, I think wherever you wear converses, these will work too as a dressier change.
I feel that I have a harder time wearing lighter shade shoes in fall/winter season, (although I did today). But these look so lovely (I also like the white/black combo), especially for spring!

So I think this type of shoe is quite stylish and versatile:)

Ooops - you said to talk you out, and I'm talking you in... sorry! I guess you could hold off from buying these and look at other flat shoes, trying to think which ones would BEST fill in the closet hole. (The ones you would actually get super-excited about wearing:)

I have the black and cream version and felt strange at first wearing them, but they are so comfortable. Making myself wear them and finding they received lots of compliments was a big confidence booster. It's amazing how many things they go with. Now they get lots of use.
I felt the same way when first venturing into moto jacket territory with a black twill version. Just do it and pretty soon you don't even think about it.

Do you think the black and cream might be easier to work with outfits? Or does that just depend on the wardrobe. I've been looking at these for days and everyday I look down at my outfit and try to picture what they would look like with them, but I come up short.

It's funny. My 13 year old is the SAME way with clothes that are out of her comfort zone. She will love, love something and never wear it because she's just not comfortable in the "look". Used to frustrate the heck out of me to see these cute things left unworn, but I'm starting to "get it" now that I'm trying to upgrade my wardrobe some.

Cilleena, I thought there was discussion of these shoes in the past (people who loved the look but found they weren't wearing them, or maybe vice versa). Crossing fingers for you that people more experienced than I will chime in with their views...

I tried these and returned them for two reasons:

1) I found them very hard to get on and off. Once I managed to get them on, they were pretty comfortable, but my morning routine is plenty chaotic as it is and I just don't have time to fight with my shoes.

2) I'm not a conservative dresser at all, but I have never been the type of person to wear statement shoes and these were too bold for me and made me feel clownish somehow. I ended up getting these intstead:

The solid color was more subtle, and I found them more comfortable and easier to get on and off.

Depending what your coloring and wardrobe is like, the Miz Mooz might work for you. The cognac ones in particular would work well for blondes, but judging from your profile picture I doubt you're blonde.

Well, you wanted some opposite feedback, so I will chime in with my experience of loving Doc boots but not loving them on me, and returning them. I bought some last winter, wanting an tall, cool, rugged, weather-worthy boot. I think I was in love with the idea of them more than the boot itself. Alas, they were not *me.* I felt conspicuous wearing them and they didn't really go with my style. I love those boots still ... on others.

My opinion is that if you're really not sure, buy them, wear them at home with a few outfits and then decide. Maybe you will find out they are *you,* but if you decide they are not ... no harm done and just return. And then onto something that suits you more, if need be.

Cillena - if you cannot picture yourself wearing them in your mind as you're putting together outfits, maybe skipping them is a good idea.
I really like the ones Maya posted too.
Do you find yourself doubting more about the color or the style? Do you feel they have too much of a "masculine" vibe about them? I guess you could explore other flat-shoe options and see if you would feel more comfortable in them? Maybe try loafers?

I have the Histerics, although I got them in basic black because I couldn't justify not getting a black shoe...they are SOOOO comfortable. I absolutely love them. I wish I could afford to get the color combo your'e looking at, too, since I think that they would look great with skinnies! (But after purchasing Frye Veronicas yesterday, I won't be buying anything until summer.) Sorry!

Christie-I am like you about Docs. Love the look of them and they are another pair of shoes that tempts me, but I KNOW I will never wear them. I'll just admire them on other people OR I will get something like them for my 3 year old and enjoy them that way. She loves the attention quirky shoes get her.

Evie- Good questions! Thank you! It's definitely the color that gives me pause. But, the color is the same thing that really grabs me about them. I actually like the masculine flavor of oxfords, it keeps me from feeling too girly. A tiny bit of edge has always appealed to me. These just may tip the "tiny" bit too much. I've got to try them though.

Megan-Thanks for the link! A sale on them is just what I needed to give me the oomph to try them. I like the heeled version of oxfords a lot, but my lifestyle make heels impractical at the moment (I have a 23 pound, 1 year old to tote around). In a few years, I'll be trying out heels for day to day wear again.

I have these in the black and cream and I absolutely love them. The are extremely comfortable. I hear what Maya is saying about not being as easy to get on... but I just loosen the laces and they are really not a big problem. Once they are on my feet are in heaven.
I have worn mine with skinnies (both denim and black) bootcuts, and dresses. Just yesterday I had on a pretty simple outfit for bookclub (jeans, layering tee and open cardi) I popped my oxfords on and felt that they added just the right amount of personality that the outfit was otherwise lacking.
I will say this... I have not found myself wearing them as much in the past month because I dont' like to wear them with socks and with dresses I like them with more sheer patterned hose and it has been too cold here lately. But I wore them tons pre-ice age and I know they will come out to play more often again once the weather warms up a tad again.
I have to say this too... everyone talks about oxfords adding the 'masculine" edge or whatever.. I don't feel that at all when I wear these. I still feel very girly in these shoes... not overly so, but I don't feel tomboyish at all.
I think the color you choose depends on your wardrobe colors. My wardrobe has much more black than brown, while Kari's wardrobe is full of fall based colors.

QM- Thank you for the information. Why do you not wear them with socks? Is it kind of like wearing socks with ballet flats or loafers? I can wear thin dark or nude trouser socks. But, it is waaay too cold here to go sockless.

Also, for anyone else...would these work with cropped pants/pedal pushers and shorts for spring? I have a lot of things in both blacks and brown for winter, but spring is all about khaki pants and khaki shorts with maybe the odd grey pair thrown in there.

For bookending with my hair, that's tough, I have dark brown hair, but with lots of golden brown and blonde highlights...disguises my greys. I think the cognac and cream probably bookends the best. So hard, I like both color combos. Solid color oxfords just don't "speak" to me at all.

They are really cute. I don't have these, but I have two pair of solid colored oxfords (black and burgundy) and I wear the heck out of them. In fact, the only thing I don't like about them is the fact that several people have asked me if they're DH's shoes! It probably wouldn't be an issue if I didn't have such big feet (I'm really only about 1/2-1 size smaller than DH, I could probably actually get away with wearing his shoes in a pinch). I don't think it would be a problem with the cognac and cream, either, because I don't think that's a color combo you'd see many men wearing.

Honestly, I personally don't care for oxfords much at all, flat or heeled. (I also don't much go for light colored shoes, but in this case they *are* lower contrast than the penguin-y black and white ones.) But...sometimes when I'm in a situation like this and I have a store locally, I'll go try the "targeted" shoes on wearing an outfit I think would be awesome with them, and then I have proof whether they'll work or not.

doesn't endless have free shipping both ways? I'd order both colors and decide what works best with your wardrobe.
I just don't like the look of socks with them. I tried yesterday actually and it just seemed frumpy to me. thin black socks might work, but I didn't have any clean.

edit.. nevermind, I was thinking it was endless where they were on sale, it's infinity. do they do free shipping both ways?

RE: the difficulty getting them on, the Histerics come laced up in a very weird/unusual style. If you take the laces out and re-lace them normally, they are MUCH easier to loosen & to get on and off.

I have them in black and cream and love them so much I'm thinking about getting another pair in cognac and cream. I wear mine with any of my jeans. I like them with lightweight black socks. I found some by Hue that are a subtle mesh pattern.
