I've been oogling this skirt on Asos. I love the cute pleats and the fact that it's (faux) leather but not black.

However I'm thinking this may be disastrous on my body type? I'm slim but last time I checked there was an 11" difference between my waist and hip. Possibly rather stiff pleats are probably what i should be running away from...

Thoughts? It's free shipping and returns so I guess I could just order and try it out... >.>

I say no because its leather. If this was in a fabric, it would have been a wholehearted yes because the playful style of it seems like "you"

If you're curvy, I vote no. I'm curvy, and find that pleats never lie the way they should. They get distorted over the curves. Also, the fact that this skirt is leather would scare me away from it. Still, you could always try it and see.

I like it but I'm put off by the faux leather. I think a less structured, heavy material would make more sense for the season and the style.

The schoolgirl vibe of skirts like this generally turn me off. But if that is your thing, I think a vintage item would be super available?

I can never wear pleated skirts either, and the faux leather suggests that it will stand away from the body even more than a regular pleated skirt. However, if it turns out to fit you well, I think you could make it work as long as the hem is kept short to show your great legs and avoid the look of excess bulk. That will give it a bit of a schoolgirl flair but I think that could work with your style.

I'm going to say nay. A few years ago I bought a black real leather skirt with similar pleating. It looked horrible.
This skirt is short, the pleats are going to stand out from your hips and make it even shorter.

I love it but I had a pleated leather skirt that was impossible because the pleats would not hold their shape. That would be my worry, because can you iron leather?

I think you have a nice slope from waist to hips and that the pleats will play nicely with them. I'm not sure how stiff they are and if you're worried they won't lay flat against your curves? I have a bit of a 'shelf' hip and these wouldn't be so hot on me, but I think you are safe. I'd give it a try with free shipping!

It's cute and interesting. Like you say - it's not black and that can be hard to find. I would probably give it a try since shipping is free.

Look at it this way --- if the pleats prove too slim and stiff for your hips, you end up with a leather-ite tutu skirt. AND if ANYONE can pull that off with great style, Nicole, that would be you.

Yeah, why not try it. It's risky but as long as they take returns, you're not married to it. I'm curvy and I tend to run away from pieces like this, but it might work?

You could wear this! No doubt! The only problem I have is that it's leather.. cleaning is more difficult and expensive!

Nicole, I think the pleating could be problematic. I love the idea of it but it widens even the slimmest body. I think placement of the pleats is more flattering if the top of the skirt is flat (not sure what the technical sewing term is) and the pleats start a little bit lower.

Okay, I'm taking a shot at talking you out of it: It's leather and pleated, so possibly impossible to keep the pleats pleaty, it's a blah color, and its shape (very short and pleated) reminds me of a cheerleader's skirt, and not in a good way :).

How did I do?

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and input! While I can't be talked out of loving this skirt for it's design (because I love the color and construction), I appreciate all the helpful body type comments. The pleats flaring out, making the skirt indecently short is exactly my concern. I decided to wait for Asos to come out with either a sale or coupon code (or both if I'm lucky!) and then try it out since there's really no harm in it.

Also someone has made me aware that H&M is selling black leather pleated skirts like this so I may hop on over there in the meantime so I can get a better idea of how the shape will work on me.
