Tailored shorts & matching blazer?

Lately, I seem to come across more and more outfits featuring tailored shorts and a matching blazer.

While I'm not sure I would be able to wear such an ouftit, I appreciate the look for its casual elegance. And I would be glad to read your thoughts on that!

I would wear 4 in a hot second, though maybe a different color for me. I love the look and think you should explore it! I’m hoping to find some softly tailored shorts for this summer.

lisa p, runcarla, oy yes, longer shorts with a safari jacket would look so great and sound wearable!

I actually have a pair lol! They were a $4 Target clearance special several years ago. Since they’re heavy polyester they’ve worn well. But they’re showing wear now—some snagging on the side of the thigh. I’m eager to recreate them by copying them and sewing a new pair. Otherwise, i may hunt for a new pair. They have 3 soft large pleats at each side of the waist. They feel very 40s to me even with the shorter inseam. I haven’t run across a pair like them yet.

They remind me a lot of the Hot Pant suits of the late 1960’s, except the shorts were shorter and the often came with a bra top to wear under the jacket. A blazer with dark denim or white shorts might work.

I'm right there with Joy in remembering the hot pants suits. I didn't wear them then, either. All the models look gorgeous, as did plenty of the hot pants suit wearers. For me, this is too coy a look-at-me look. What occasion is it suited for? If a person works in a country where shorts are worn by men for business, then okay, fine. Reminds me of a recent screen grab I saw of three news people - two guys with at least 3 layers on top, presuming they wore an undershirt with their dress shirt and sports coat/suit jacket and a women with spaghetti straps.

Vildy, I definitely agree with you concerning the "when" such outfits could be worn. I would not envision such an outfit in my workplace, but maybe to go to the restaurant, …I really don't have a clear idea.

I think these are fun looks, especially the tonal browns in #3. I like the idea of lightweight summer blazers to elevate simple shorts-and-tees outfits. I do a less matchy, more casual version of this with a navy linen blazer and chambray linen shorts.

I am with Barbara Diane, for me if it is hot enough for shorts it is too hot for a blazer. Looks good on others though.

But ditto to seasonally confused and where would it be worn- aside from fashion bloggers and IG? Ooo oo wait! It can be worn at home for (the unlucky people that have to do) teleconferencing

I love this look, but it is not something that I could wear to work and Is too formal for my weekend wear. I have long pedal pushers that I wear on weekends which is a bit of a nod to this trend which I wear with a vest.

These look seasonally confused. If wearing shorts, the jacket seems too warm. The bare legs look too cold if the jacket is comfortable. I wore a hot pant shit for date nights. It was a light weight cotton with an unlined bomber jacket, so not very warm.

I personally think there is no way these should be worn to an actual office IRL. The shorts look much too short, too much leg to look professional to my eye.
And if the office is hot, the arms will be way too hot wearing the blazer. But if the office has cold aircon, the arms may be good but the legs will be freezing.

I also think it’s a great look, but seasonally confused for our super hot summers. I can’t imagine wearing it during the day but maybe for going out to dinner on a cooler night.

I like #3 the best. I think it's a very cool, sophisticated, polished casual look. I could see wearing it for sightseeing, shopping, to a museum, etc. in the summer. I also like the idea of longer shorts.

I actually own a shorts suit, much like number 5. I do love it, but have only worn it (for some reason) in Los Angeles, where it felt perfectly apropos! It is at least 8-12 years old, but I keep it hanging in my closet “just in case”. In case of what? I have no idea . And I live in Florida, where it could work as well...

just went to look at the tags- Alice and Olivia, one of my first purchases! When I finally get going for the day, I’ll take a photo.

Decided this could work after all, at the short length, if a summer tourist in a non-humid climate. Good for strolling around and keeping sun off the arms without icky sunblock.
