Tags on scarves

Am I the only person who seems to have a knack for tying my scarves in such a way that the fabric care label is blatantly visible? Back when I had only one scarf, I just removed the label because I could remember the care instructions, but now that I have several scarves I am hesitant to remove the labels, because I want to know what the fabric composition is, etc. Do you just try to manipulate the scarf once it's tied so that the tag doesn't show, or is there some nifty trick I don't know about?

Hmm, tricky. IKWUM about trying to remember cleaning instructions if you chop them off. I've had visible tag syndrome before and I was trying to think what to do. I thought I might store the cut off tags stapled to a piece of paper with a description of the scarf by it.

I remove obvious labels, and as Diane said you can always staple onto the swing-tag and keep if you wish.

Oh, I *hate* seeing the tags, and I really, really hate when they're attached in such a way that it leaves tiny holes in the scarf if you try to remove them.

I have had this problem too. I now just cut the tags off carefully with a pair of nail scizzors. Most of my scarves are washable by hand (or hand wash cycle), I do note if a scarf needs dry cleaning.

I hate trying to cut those darn tags off. It's gotten to be really annoying.

I don't like seeing the tags either, I take a photo of the tag on the scarf (use the macro function) and keep it in the accessories file on my computer.

I seem to have the same "knack," Gigi. Just a couple days ago I was thinking I might start removing those pesky scarf tags. Writing down the washing instructions is a great idea.

All my scarfs are hand-washable so I painstakingly remove the tags. I was never successful at hiding the tags since scarves get loosened, tied, taken off, on.... hard to be keeping track of where the little tag is.

I definitely have that knack too! I take the tags off, since I don't buy scarves that can't be washed. BTW, a seam ripper usually works well to remove the tags. They're worth having for stuff like this even if you don't sew.

I just cut off the tags too. In addition to not wanting them to show, I just irrationally hate the feeling of touching clothing tags. (Why? No idea.) I also just wash all my scarves with Dryel and don't really buy many that need something more delicate.

This annoys me too, but in general I have a thing about saving tags, so I confess to not cutting them off.

Thanks, everyone! I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with this problem. I especially like the idea of the seam ripper to remove the tags...sometimes cutting them off leaves an annoying edge that can cause the scarf not to lie right if it's a thinner fabric. Adding all the tags to one sheet of paper with a description of the washing instructions is great!

I just cut the tags off. They drive me nuts, otherwise. And doesn't kiwi bird have a terrific idea?

I have just Ben cutting the tags and hand washing them. I tend not to buy the. If they are dry clean only.

I tend to only buy one brand of scarf in many different patterns (and some vary in size), so the care instructions are the same. Still and all, I would never remove the tag because I would be terrified of damaging the scarf. Because they are long enough, I wear them so that the tags always end up in back and are not visible when worn.

It depends on the scarf. Recently, I bought a pastel silk scarf with a huge black label on. Too ugly, so I chopped it off. On the other hand, I do like to keep the tags for reference so if they don't bother me, I let them stay. Most of the time I manage to hide them in the tying.

I prefer other people to leave the tags on because I like to know what material a scarf is made of when I'm thrifting:)

You have company galore. I'm afraid of the seam ripper on tags. I'm afraid I'll undo not just the tag, but the scarf.

I use a seam ripper, too. Usually I can tell if separate stitching were used. It burns me up when they stitch the label into the actual scarf seam.

Glad you brought this up--apparently it is happening to everyone! Some nicer scarves will have the label sewn flat, which makes it easier to tie and hide. But cheaper scarves (or maybe not?) have a tag just sticking OUT THERE so as you kinda have to cut it off... you could be super organized and create a little file with all the labels attached to a photo of the item, then you'll know how to wash each thing... just a thought!

I also use the seam ripper, although I have left the tags on some scarves where removal would have resulted in damage. I all wash them on handwash cycle anyway, so I don't see the point in keeping the tags.
