T-shirt shoulder fit? Also considering barrel leg jeans...

Two topics one post...

1. For some reason I'm struggling with the fit of the shoulders of these two t-shirts. I'm thinking they might be too small in the shoulder (especially the blue striped one)? This is not an issue I have typically and I ordered the correct size according to the size chart. Do you see it too, or am I being too particular? Basically, I'm trying to figure out if I will regret not returning these.

2. I ordered some barrel leg jeans to try. It's a totally new silhouette for me so I feel some hesitation but I think I'm leaning towards keeping them.

What do you think?

I like your new jeans ( barrel style I guess ) - especially in #3. The t-shirts got potential - fun color in #2.

From someone who is not totally sold on barrel jeans yours look fabulous. Keep! As for the t-shirts, to my eye there is something off wiith the cut of both of them, but definiitely more noticeable on the striped one. I personally would prefer either a longer sleeve or a shorter angled sleeve. These seem to sit at an odd position. The striped one is also off in a way that it looks to small even though it is not. Like the seams at the shoulder are too in IYKWIM.

Is that a stonewash? And with Adidas? Great look--I say, keep it. The shirts look totally fine to me--just a trimmer shoulder than all the "drop" style that was big for a while. But I am always personally wary of tees being too small. So if you move around and they bunch all over the place, then return them.

@ Carol, I am not a fan of drop style. However these still look a bit off to me.... I could be wrong. Hopefully Angie and her eagle eye will chime in.

Barrel jeans on you: yay!

T-shirts: yes, they do look a little tight at the shoulder and upper chest, especially the striped one. I agree with Carol that the best test is to move around and see if they bunch, twist or ride up. Just because you don’t usually have this problem, doesn’t mean it can’t happen! These shirts might just be cut a little differently, and maybe the striped one is a less stretchy fabric or something.

I find t-shirts too narrow in the shoulders, not too noticeable and more of a preferred fit issue. Both are nice so maybe try to size up?

Agree that the shoulder fit of the tees seems narrow. Not sure if this is a deliberate style or if it's just not a great fit for you? Waiting to see what Angie says

No comment from me on the jeans as I don’t own any blue jeans at all.
The T-shirts: I don’t understand why but the peach one looks much better on the shoulders than the striped one, to my eye. I like the peach one on you.

Jeans are great! The second one looks like a good fit to me and the first one also looks fine but if it bothers you it probably always will so it might be worth sizing up or finding a different cut.

I'm a fan of the jeans!

As for the tees, you can do better. The cut isn't right for you. It's a bit off in the shoulder and possibly the armhole area as well, and I am wondering if this neckline and/or the sleeve angle is also exaggerating the effect. I'd look for a different cut or style.

As someone who wears a lot of tshirts I think the style of sleeve on these tshirts is what’s off. Since they fit at your shoulder. I’d prefer a wider sleeve for more visual volume or a longer sleeve if you want to wear the tee closer to your arm. I like Gaps Modern fit tees a lot especially for layering and they have a longer sleeve. I added mine to the finds.

Now these barrel jeans, are simply perfection for the fit and color. This is how you do a barrel jean! Keep!

The forum has spoken and I will be keeping the jeans. I really appreciate the validation as I'm new to the look. I'm also rather excited about expanding my jeans horizons.

Carol- The jeans are stone wash. I didn't realize that when I ordered them and might not have ordered had I known. I remember stone wash from the first time around. I had a pair that was so unsubtle in its stonewash and even 30+ years on I'm still not ready for that look again. Fortunately, these are not so over the top.

The t-shirts are going back. I think I was hesitating because I love both of the colors. The blue stripes in particular since the blue is so close a match to my blue-gray eyes. But these just aren't the ones. I very much appreciate the wisdom of the group!

In truth, I'm not sure if I actually need any more t-shirts at the moment. Angie- I love the look of the LL Bean ones you suggested but I'm not sure if the sleeves length/tightness would be practical for how hot the summers get here and the fact I don't have air conditioning at home. But if they get stocked at my local store I plan to try them on in person. And thanks for the compliment on the navy striped top. I quite like that one, but it really more of a sweater than a t-shirt so the weather will soon not be appropriate for wearing it until fall.

Lisa- thanks for the tip on the Gap t-shirts. Both the t-shirts and the jeans I posted are from a Gap Factory online order. It's further proof that it always comes down to the individual item and not to a brand...

Great jeans! Appreciate the discussion around the tshirts as I struggle with these kinds of assessments. I can see the sleeves are a little off in those t's - hope you have luck finding something that works better!

For me, when a tee seems shrunken, I stretch it out, sometimes taking it off, stretching it and putting it back on. I did that yesterday to a tee that seemed too short. This might not be the case for your tops, but if it is, it can save a top from the donation bag.
